This is a fine provider if you have a normal pregnancy, but I would not recommend if you have any complications. First, the positive: the office is very efficient, and they are able to see a large amount of patients very quickly. The nursing staff and doctors are very friendly, and they can answer questions on routine problems with your pregnancy.
Now, the bad. When I went in for my first ultrasound, they discovered I was carrying identical twins. The doctor inundated me with all of the possible complications before I even could process that I was having twins-- doesn't look like there is a membrane, high risk pregnancy, have to see a specialist in Annapolis, T-2-T transfusion syndrome, might strangle each other with their cords, etc. She repeatedly said she didn't know anything about twins and then, after going through all the worst-case scenarios at a rapid speed, immediately left. When I did see the specialist, they let me know there was a membrane and that TLC did not have equipment sensitive enough to even detect a membrane, so there was no reason to handle the situation like they did.
Everything continued at a normal pace until I hit 33 weeks. At that point, my blood pressure started climbing quite rapidly within a week. My swelling also started getting extreme. I had an appointment at TLC on Wednesday where my BP was 153/90. I also mentioned the increased swelling. The doc said that was normal and we would keep an eye on it and I should come back in two weeks. I saw the specialist in Annapolis on Friday, where my blood pressure was 164/99. I was swollen so badly that I could only fit into my husband's shoes. They gave me a steroid shot to help develop the babies' lungs in case I had to deliver and sent me to the hospital for observation, where my blood pressure climbed to 210/110 within a couple of hours. I delivered via C-section the next morning. Even after I delivered, my swelling kept increasing until I could no longer hear and could barely see because my eyes were swollen shut. I also became toxic from the magnesium sulfate, but that's a whole other story.
While I was recuperating, TLC called me three times because I missed an appointment. I talked to three different people, telling them I had already delivered, but they just kept calling. I had to keep repeating the same information while trying to get my BP down and visit my twins in the NICU. After I was released, I received another automated call because someone had rescheduled my appointment without telling me, so that was another call.
When I scheduled my appointment at the Phillip Morris Dr for postpartum follow-up, I was on a large amount of blood pressure medication. The doc told me to go ahead and stop it, make an appointment with my regular doc 2-4 weeks from now, and then made a follow-up appointment with her 3 months later. When I spoke to my doc, she told me under no circumstances should I just stop the blood pressure medication cold. After meeting with her, she created a step-down plan so I could ease off the medication safely over the course of two weeks. She mentioned that simply stopping blood pressure medication, especially on my high dose, could cause my BP to rebound and possibly cause a stroke.
So basically, if TLC was my only provider, I would be dead. So would my twins. Please be careful if you choose this provider, and if you feel like anything is wrong, just go to the hospital.
Their driver could not come pick me up so my appointment was canceled naturally. Then they told me I no longer have a medication prescriber there because I didn't show up on the day that their driver couldn't get me. This was for the Chesapeake health on Riverside Drive.
