A little disappointed. I called to get information and help on booking for a surprise little date and the 2 people I spoke with just seemed super annoyed and eager to get off the phone. I did not get any of the information I was requesting and I even told them the dates I was looking at and they were available online and that I was open to even switching dates if necessary. I was ready to book a room and 2 massages over the phone for just one night but that quickly turned my decision. Very upset as I was recommended by several people and heard nothing but wonderful things.

Friendly staff and great service but needs significant improvement on their cleaning. There were clumps of hair on our shower wall that were easily visible and left us concerned about how well the rest of the room had been cleaned. It would have been gross to find in any hotel but I expected more from The Umstead.

Nice accommodations and location. The on site restaurant was delicious and the wait staff were very attentive. We will definitely be returning when we are in the area. It is very convenient to the airport and centrally located to the Raleigh Durham area. I especially enjoyed the pool area and the wooded surroundings. Take a walk through the state park if you have the chance!

Remember to use H . when booking your hotel. This website will compare thousands of booking websites and usually will have prices much cheaper compared to others! Thank me later on! This place is one of the most well known in this area. I have been coming here for a very long time. If you stay for a few days you for sure will love it I'm sure!

100% a 5-star hotel experience. Best spa experience my wife and I have ever had. Made our Anniversary special. Definitely will stay again.

Went to an awards dinner at the Umstead tonight, food was great, long gap between salad and main course and time ran out for coffee with our dessert, very disappointed. The time management needs some improvement

Great facilities, food, cleanliness. However, a few key mishaps that could have been avoided to make our stay amazing. Instead, we spent much of the weekend mildly annoyed.

I ordered local food delivery for lunch (which cannot be delivered directly to the room by outside delivery people). When it arrived, the delivery person called me and I was ready to go to the lobby to get it; however, someone on staff offered to bring it upstairs and so I gave the delivery person my room number and he handed it off to staff in the lobby. THIRTY MINUTES and three phone calls to the front desk later, lunch for 4 made it to my room. Each time I called, I was told it was being located and we ll bring it right up. Honestly, coming down to get it myself really would not have been an inconvenience at all, but waiting 30 minutes for food to get from the lobby to my room most certainly was. This was especially aggravating because the in-room dining did not offer lunch until 1pm, so to get lunch, we had to get it from outside.

Later that evening, we returned to our room after dinner to a note on the door indicating that an amenity was available for us but it was not delivered due to our privacy light being set. Called down and was told it was coming right up. Kept the kids up past their intended bedtime and had to call again to question where it was. 20-30 minutes after the original call, it finally arrived. The included apology note for the earlier delay on takeout delivery was quite ironic given its own delay.

Additionally, we reserved a pool cabana for the day; although we did not arrive at it until 10am, it was not ready. Although the pool was at no more than 20% capacity, we were made to give up our 9a-12p pool chairs at noon with no committed guarantee to extend the reservation.

Given the price of our room and how much additional we spent while on property, the value was not worth giving additional stars on this review.

One of the best experiences I've ever had at a hotel! I'm a stickler for cleanliness in a hotel and for the price we paid, I was expecting to have a superb experience. My expectations were not disappointed. The room was clean, the bathroom was clean and all the amenities were above par. All the servers were kind and helpful. My husband and I will certainly be back to enjoy!

The website does not do this establishment justice. The attention to detail of the staff is great. The facilities and grounds are attended to meticulously! Every moment of my stay was enjoyable! The lakeside room with a balcony is a must!

Stayed for a few nights and the place was fantastic as usual. We did the Art Tour at Herons with the wine tasting and it was AMAZING. Wow! Cameron at Herons was great and made it a memorable experience.
