A very old mansion house with a lot of character and history. A very good choice of food both for evening meal and breakfast. I have visited here twice and highly recommend a stay here and the staff are very friendly.

Had our wedding reception here and have been back every year for an anniversary meal and quite a few other times as well. I ve attended the gin festival and can honestly say it s one of the most stunning places in regards scenery and grounds for quite a distance.
The staff here are always pleasant and friendly and the food is lovely, it s one of the few places that I ll go to and try something completely different to my normal tastes as I can rely on the quality.
If you re in the area I d recommend stopping off just to have a look and stay for a drink, there s a well appointed bar with a good selection of gins.
Probably my favourite place to go for a guaranteed special occasion.

Absolutely freezing in there. No heating on in there. Sat and ate our meal in our coats. The fish and triple cooked was tasteless and the chips were not triple cooked. Ladies toilets only 1 out of 3 working. One was locked with towels on the floor the other was full to the brim. Yuk. Disgusting really considering the prices you pay. Very disappointed won't rush back there

Atrocious meal last month. Gristly ham hock starter; beef obviously not carved from a joint (uniform thickness and shape and tough); tepid gravy; oversize and overcooked, brittle Yorkshire pudding; tasteless vegetables; a poor excuse for a crumble pudding (stewed fruit with what appeared to be bird seed sprinkled over the top). Poor, indifferent service to boot.
Never again. This experience spoiled a birthday celebration.

It was a real struggle to decide between 4 and 5 stars for Sweeney hall... For: dinner (10 out of 10 food) and service was brilliant, the staff generally can not be faulted and are EXCELLENT, the grounds and scenery are great. Against, breakfast was only good (7 out of 10), and sometimes it feels like the line between shabby and shabby-chic is being too finely trodden, it's not bad by any means, just a few areas could be tidied up to make it feel more special... However, still feel the stay was good value for money, and would more than happily stay again... Four and half stars then. :)

We had our wedding here (summer 2017). The service and attention to detail from the staff couldn't have been better. It was the perfect venue, the food was wonderful, and it was clear that Sean and the team really cared about making the day as special as possible for us. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Mothers day
Went for Sunday lunch. All 3 courses very good, particularly the roast beef. Can't comment on price as we were taken as mothers day treat

Fantastic venue. This really is a rare gem and well worth a visit. The food is excellent and the bar well stocked. The environment is great with a roaring log fire on entry. Very friendly staff. It has a touch of old fashioned class sadly missing from modern hotels. Highly recommended !!

I recently visited Sweeney Hall as I was trying to find a suitable venue for a business meeting and lunch and found it difficult to see anything decent in Oswestry or Wrexham. What a superb find. Friendly and professional staff, excellent, well-priced food and elegant but not pretentious. I understand it is family-run and perhaps that is why it is so good. Recommended.

What a fabulous hotel, breathtaking scenery, outstanding food and first class service from the wonderful staff. We were attending a 70th birthday party and were totally looked after from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.

The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful. We were there for 2 nights for a family gathering. They were very attentive and the management were very hands on. It felt like a family run hotel with personal interest in the guests well being and enjoyment of their stay. The grounds are lovely too. Super for children to explore. There are some beautiful old trees within the grounds. Well worth a visit. We would happy return to this hotel in the future.

Haven't stayed but just been for Christmas Lunch with a group of about 40. Always been superb food and service but today, if am afraid to say, was a shambles. Excellent food but no co-ordination in service. Starters came at different times, some people had finished before others were served. Main course was the same, meat was almost finished before the veg were served. Sweets the same. Coffee cold before the milk/cream/sugar served. Whatever has gone wrong? Someone needs to get a grip very quickly.

Unfortunately there was no internet and the shower packed in, and the next morning there was no hot water for a bath. Breakfast was reasonable but not the best. Disappointed as it is such a wonderful setting. Bedroom with high ceiling and nice decor. Would try again only to compare visits!

My friend and I had booked afternoon tea outside for a belated birthday catch up. It did take a little while to get someone's attention when we first arrived (we did ring ahead to check if we could arrive early for a drink), and we did have to go into the restaurant itself to find a member of staff. Once we were seated though the staff were pleasant and efficient, and they didn't forget us, even though we were the only ones on the terrace.

Tea and coffee were nice and there was lots of food included in the afternoon tea, with a good variety of sweet treats (Victoria sponge, meringue, profiterole, and scones), and the vegetarian sandwiches I had were tasty (can't comment on the meat ones!). One very minor suggestion would be to perhaps include some pats of butter with the scones, but I really wasn't bothered enough to ask for it, and they were fine with just jam and cream.

It was an overcast and rather windy day, but it's obvious that the terrace would be absolutely glorious on a warm sunny day, with gorgeous views, lots of space, plenty of comfortable chairs, and big tables so it was easy for my friend and I to sit at appropriate distance from each other which was reassuring - neither of us has been out at all really since restaurants re-opened.

One thing that could be improved would be to bring out individual jugs of milk with hot drinks, as my friend and I are trying to be cautious as we both have vulnerable family, and she has a small baby, so we ended up using napkins to pass jugs between us. We did have to go inside to pay at the end as the card machine wouldn't have worked where we were, just in case that other customers are trying to stay outdoors like us.

Overall it was a lovely afternoon catching up, and for what we paid (including the government Eat out discount) it was very good value.

I love this place, the country setting is beautiful, the staff are so friendly and attentive. We stayed bed and breakfast and dined in the restaurant, room spotless, food first class, cannot wait to visit again. Couple of miles from Oswestry which is a lovely market town well worth a visit.

Loved the decor. Very tongue in cheek. We were too early for food but tea and biscuits was lovely. Dogs were made welcome. Garden was beautiful. Best asset was the really welcoming young man who greeted us at the door and was so friendly. Fantastic first impression!
