Great ambience is this historic location . impeccable service along with outstanding food and fresh oysters. Not to mention a wonderful selection of Scotch. If you go to Halifax, you must stop in, if even just for a cocktail.

First thing I noticed is that the atmosphere is quite cozy and warm with candles and low light. This is good because the walls are largely old world masonry and stone.
We ordered the charcuterie board with a dozen oysters and a couple of beer on tap.
Everything tasted great, the waitress was charming and gave great recommendations but oddly enough it was the guy who was refilling our water that was the MVP.
He was on the ball with refills and it tied the service together to feel like everyone in the restaurant cared that we were taken care of.
It's not cheap but neither is the food or the experience. We enjoyed ourselves and would recommend for sure.

A little disappointed. Came here on a recommendation and I wasn't so impressed. Waaaaaaay over priced but that's the tourist trap. Go up to Agricola street for much better food at a more reasonable price.

Amazing venue! Ushered into the space like I was going back in time. Lobster was not on the menu. We were keen for lobster. BAM! Lobster was served. These folks made it happen. Staff were salt of the earth. Great live music and ambiance.

My husband and I were visiting Halifax and were looking for a pub to have a drink and a snack. We realized half a second too late that this was not a pub. The staff were great (even though we felt bad and were a bit undressed). The beef carpaccio was amazing, service fantastic, and we would definitely come back for a special occasion!

Came to Halifax for work, decided to try this restaurant for the good reviews. Needed a table for 1 person, there was no room at the bar and the hostess was awkward trying to find me a spot. Got a seat at the back of the restaurant.
As soon as I sat down, the experience was great. The ambience is what other restaurants strive for, relaxing and romantic and comfortable at once. It was humid and muggy outside, but cool and comfortable in the restaurant.
The food was absolutely superb and the servers were on top of everything. The chef even came out and introduced himself to the evening customers, a very nice touch.
The wine was a little bit pricey ($12 minimum for a glass), but I had the Sauvignon Blanc and it was very good.
The oysters were great with great presentation and sauces. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious. The bread was served with lemon caper butter (sounds like they make a different kind each day), which was creative and delicious.
Very worth it. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Oysters were the best I've ever had. The elk was good as was the lamb. No Deer or pheasant on the menu tonight. The Bison was over cooked. The dessert was just ok. I wasn't impressed. I dont think I will visit again.

Their seafood chowder tasted creamy, fair amount of seafood in it, noticeably smoky, which is good if you like it. The portion is huge in my opinion, it could be used as a main course if you are not very hungry. We had duck and bbq rib eye steak as our main course. The steak is perfectly cooked, but the bbq sauce is a bit overwhelming, and the quality of the steak itself is not worth the price.. the side vegetables are bit watery, I think they were boiled?! (Unsure). The duck dish is a bit dry, tasted okay. Our dessert, flourless chocolate cake and sticky date pudding were delicious, would recommend. Service was fast and decent.

Beat food you can get downtown. Our last day in NS so we went all out and ordered two lobsters which was cooked very well, though could have pulled it out of the pot 30 seconds less, but nonetheless great. Meat was sweet and silky paired with hot butter and lemon juice made it quite the dish. We also ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly to med-rare. Appetizers were great, the cooked oysters were salty and meaty, calamari was fried Inna tempura batter for a bit different texture, and the chowder was decent though could have been slightly thicker and creamier. Desert was so so, just walk down to Cow's ice cream instead. Overall great spot, make sure to make a reservation early or sit at the bar when you walk in.

First time visiting and it certainly won't be my last! We decided to get "The Drill" which is a 5 course meal of dishes made on the spot that day. Each time you get this menu item, it will always be different! Today we were given oysters, prawns in a lovely tomato sauce, scallop crudo with ginger sorbet, lamb with carrots in 3 ways (whole with honey, white puree and jelly) with delicous slivers of brocolli. To finish, we were given a peanut butter chocolate dessert with pineapple drizzle and pears decorating the exterior and a mint outer rim with fruit and chocolate. The cooks had a lot of fun with our meals and even came out to speak about the lamb dish. Our server was courteous, friendly, and attentive. The staff always kept our water full and cleared dishes quickly. Atmosphere was comfortable with attractive decor that kept the eye wandering. Loved it!
