Lots to see. Different kinds of arts as well as historical ones. I would have liked to see what was in the other buildings but didn't have enough time.
I appreciate the previous owners who donated it to the public and made it free for all forever. Make sure to reserve an appointment before going there.

Incredible art museum! I ve been visiting for years and every visit is new and refreshing. My favorite exhibit is Surrealism; the charcoal walls and low lighting contribute to atmosphere the art on the walls exhibit: dark, distorted, and dreamlike (like our subconscious). Every exhibit is worth visiting. The Rothko Chapel is not far and it s worth the visit as well. And it s free! I also recommend learning about the rich history and founders of this museum, John and Dominique de Menil.

The Menil Collection has one of the most amazing art collections I've ever seen displayed in an intimate and comfortable setting. The building itself is also one of the greatest gallery spaces ever built.

This museum and surrounding neighborhood habe always been "cozy" to me. The houses are beautiful, and the park is clean, green, and peaceful. I really like the museum itself for several reasons. It looks like a place you would just be in and out of - and you can if you're just looking to find some time to kill while strolling through the beautiful neighborhood, or if you go for a particular exhibit. But if you went through everything they have there, you will find yourself lost for hours. In a good way. I like that they have their sort of-stationery articles and then their rotating exhibits that are always worth a look. I've found myself entranced in exhibits of artists I didn't even think I liked in the first place. They have wonderful pieces. Great maintenance. Beautiful building that hasn't changed or worn down at all in all the years I've visited it/known of it. Always nice and quiet enough to focus, but not so airtight that you can't voice yourself to your partner or stranger. So close to the Rothko Chapel and such. Maybe I'm biased because I discovered it in my younger days when I was happy and naive and discovering the world of art and Montrose. But I think that that can of connection can actually make you susceptible to easy disappointment or embarrassment, especially if you want to bring a friend. I introduced my father to it recently, who had always wanted to check it out, (which usually adds pressure, wherever it is, in hopes my recommendations are up to an enjoyable standard and NOT awkward), and we got lost in time just looking at everything. It was a wonderful visit.

You can finish looking at all the at in under 30 minutes. Some of their non-permanent installations were super cool. Too bad you couldn't take pictures of them. If you have some time kill, this place is free with free, easy parking in their lot one street over. I wouldn't make a day out of it though. Only if you're already in the area.

This place was fantastic. Very cool paintings, sculptures, and artifacts here. I didn t get to stay as long as I wanted, I hope to visit again in the future. It s free and will not disappoint with the art on display, there are things from the First Century, 4000 BC, and other cool time periods.

An excellent collection. Gorgeous space. One of Houston's gems. Unfortunately, the staff is very unfriendly towards children. The staff watch families like hawks, offering terse and preemptive instructions regarding "hand-holding" or other ways to restrict their movement. It's a shame. They've lost two members.

...make plans to spend at least 2 hours seeing just a small portion of this multi-gallery gem; plus the terrifuc book/gift store and a wonderful sit-down bistro and bar right on their "campus"...a 10+++

Very great free art museum in Montrose! It's a nice sized museum and free to the public. I really liked how there was a mix of old and modern art. One modern art exhibit is not recommended for children and they mean it! I only wish they let us take photos but it is not allowed. The security is very strict as well. Right down the street from Rothko Chapel.

Nice and quiet museum with a thoughtfully arranged display. Built in the 1980s, and as a neighbor, the houses around the museum were termed "Menilville" because Dominique de Menil had all the bungalows painted gray with white trim. Beautiful part of Montrose.

One of my favorite places! I visit every time I'm in Houston...and I don't drive and have to go way,way out of my way from my mother's. What triple digit weather/insane humidity/thunderstorm? Also, the frontline staff is insanely nice too.

Always a great day to wonder the halls and galleries of this Houston jewel. The private collection for this museum is massive and many items are on displace at different times of the year. However, the visiting artist are always a treat.

Always free! I saw an exhibition, Picasso's The Line, at a special event here. The venue provided the perfect ambiance for a fine evening of abundant wine, upscale hor d'oeuvres, good company, and great art.

Great collections, beautiful, bright, and airy space. Only issue is that if you get too close to the artwork, security will be on you! We were told not to point, which was a little awkward, and still had space between us and the wall.

Amazing rotating collections! Warhol, Mondrian, van Gogh, Magritte, Dali, Pollak, Picasso, Monet, the list goes on... The building itself is a work of art, with louvered ceilings that let in natural light, an atrium, and simply an amazing space. Nearby is the Rothko Chapel, which is definitely worth a visit while you are there. There are several pieces in the gardens surrounding the building and the Cy Twombly Gallery is nearby a well.

Great modern day art from various artists. They have multiple buildings so you do have to go outside and go to a different buildings to see other arts. There is no photos inside of the exhibit rooms, but outside in the hallways, you can take as many pictures as you want.

I'm not like an art conesiour or anything like that but it was very interesting and nice. Just get the tickets online which are free they are just trying to make sure the number of people in at one time is managed to help with coronavirus. Social distancing was very good and wearing mask was enforced. The staff member at the front desk was very friendly and nice and gives informations on the exhibits. People are all around to answer the questions you may have about the artwork :). Very good experience.

The building itself is a work of art with its minimalist design that blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

In addition to its permanent collection galleries which are always free admission for visitors; there are also rotating exhibitions throughout the year that showcase different themes or artists' works from around the world. These exhibitions often feature interactive installations or multimedia displays that engage visitors on multiple levels.

The Menil Collection also offers educational programs for all ages including lectures by curators or visiting scholars; workshops where participants can create their own artwork inspired by pieces in the collection; guided tours led by knowledgeable docents who provide insights into specific artworks or themes within them; family-friendly activities such as scavenger hunts or storytelling sessions.

For those interested in research related to art history or conservation science fields - there is an onsite research center called "The Menil Study Center" which houses thousands of books related to these topics as well as archives containing documents about individual artists' lives & careers etc., making it an invaluable resource for scholars worldwide.
