A plaque to commemorate the legendary and historic "Mayfair Ballroom" that was demolished to make way for cheap and nasty "The Gate. " Decades of historic culture were wiped away and replaced with drinking, gambling and sociopathic security guards.

Called here for drinks and food and so pleased we did. My husband got the steak burger (he always gets a burger when we eat out) and said it was the best burger he has ever eaten. I got the butterfly chicken with salad and chips, all of it was absolutely beautiful and worth every penny, big thumbs up to the chef. The staff were equally fantastic, they had a food critic in that day and explained that there would be no music on until he was done, which was fine after all we went for a relaxing afternoon. They very helpful about social distancing and just overall polite, friendly and extremely helpful. Thank you for a fantastic experience.

Went to the Mayfair on Tuesday with 3 friends for food and drinks y 25/8/20. We were impressed with the social distancing and policing methods due to covid-19. Ordered drinks first and paid for them then ordered food which was very good. The only fly in the ointment was the fact that the waitress came and asked us to pay for the food in the middle of our meal. We would have been happy to pay either before the food arrived or after we finished but found it rude to be asked to pay during the meal
Diabolical. 2 staff members were extremely rude to me and my partner. Couldn't finish my steak as it was mostly fat on top of being woefully under seasoned, could have made one better at home. Even at the half the price it wasn't worth it. Waste of time and money. Even 1 star is far too generous.
Nice place for a few drinks only downside is the prices are too steep. Good staff, good music just need to drop the prices.

I liked it, was there with my partner on a Sunday early , good beers, deals on Sunday lunches, tho we didnt eat 20%off card for January , I don't know normally care for the gate area tbh, gets a too rammed and a rough, but would be here on an afternoon place was very nicely decorated too

Called in for lunchtime snack. Staff lovely and very helpful. Chose Bang Bang Chicken Wrap from lunch club deal. Very good value and full of flavour. Coffee excellent and even offered decaff which is rare these days. Definitely worth a visit. We will return.
Visited here 8th February 2020....Nice bar but was let down by very slow bar staff.

I quite enjoyed my few drinks outside area. I didn t like the fact that I haven t been told that my second cocktail is gonna be serviced in the plastic cup. I still wanted to stick around cause the staff were friendly so enjoyed my few beers after and chat. Would love to return!
Well. Where do I start. Firstly, on arrival, we were greeted with a gentleman (minus the manners I might add), who informed us that we were breaking the law with what we were doing. Sorry, but I don't remember applying to have control over the booking system? Think of a Wetherspoon's with a higher set budget, and worse service.
We turned up without booking, after waiting 5 mins they found us a table, staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was amazing will definitely be recommending to friends and will most definitely be back

Went to the Mayfair last night for food and drinks with 3 friends and I can honestly say it was the best experience I have had on my visit. Atmosphere was outstanding, the food and cocktails were unreal. Most importantly the staff were a credit to the business and this includes the door staff. You want the complete experience, this is the place to visit.
I highly recommend this place. Prime location, thoughtful decor, friendly staff, tasty food, and a good collection of draught beer (as well as retro games). We had lunch there a couple of times and we could always enjoy some relaxing time. Btw their beef stottie is amazing.

Attended with a work colleague today and social distancing was in place so a big high five for that. We decided to go for the 3 tapas deal between us and made the mistake of also ordering the thick cut chips alongside . I say mistake only because they were really good but we hadn't expected portions to be so big. Prawns pil pil were good, meatballs were good, chips were really good but the squid was amazing. Thickly cut , tender and with just enough batter so it didn't overpower. Only downside was we had to go back to work. How nice it would have been to sit and relax. Oh and big shout out to Paul the Manager who I'm sure even if he doesn't know you pretends he does and gives you an incredible welcome.
When showed to our table there was food from previous guests so hasn't been cleaned. Waited after paying for cheesy chips (easy) 1 portion 45 minutes after reminding staff , also with no drinks. When recieved they were raw not good at all. Also groups of people can't possibly be living same household not good for covid needs checked
