The Julian Center: Empowering Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence
The Julian Center is a non-profit organization that has been providing support and services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence for over 40 years. The center was founded in 1975 by a group of women who recognized the need for a safe haven for victims of abuse. Since then, The Julian Center has grown into one of the largest organizations in Indiana dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence.
At The Julian Center, our mission is simple: we empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence by providing them with the resources they need to heal, grow, and thrive. We believe that every individual deserves to live free from fear, abuse, and oppression. That's why we work tirelessly to create a community where every person is safe and respected.
Our Services
The Julian Center offers a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs of survivors at every stage of their journey. Our services include:
Emergency Shelter: Our emergency shelter provides a safe place for survivors fleeing abusive situations. We offer food, clothing, counseling services, legal advocacy, medical care referrals as well as other basic necessities.
Counseling Services: We provide individual counseling sessions with licensed therapists who specialize in trauma recovery.
Legal Advocacy: Our legal advocates help clients navigate the complex legal system by providing information about protective orders or restraining orders as well as court accompaniment during hearings or trials.
Community Education & Outreach Programs: We offer educational programs on topics such as healthy relationships; dating safety; consent; bystander intervention; human trafficking awareness among others.
Support Groups: Support groups are available both online or in-person where individuals can connect with others who have experienced similar situations while receiving emotional support from trained facilitators.
Children's Services: Children exposed to domestic or sexual violence often require specialized care which we provide through our children’s program including therapy sessions tailored specifically for children affected by trauma.
Our Impact
Over the years since its inception , The Julian Center has helped thousands upon thousands people escape abusive relationships while empowering them towards self-sufficiency . In 2020 alone ,we provided sheltered over 1k individuals fleeing violent homes while also offering counseling sessions (both virtual & physical)to more than 2k people .We also provided legal advocacy assistance on over 3k cases .
Our impact goes beyond just numbers though - it's about changing lives .We've seen countless success stories from clients who have gone on to rebuild their lives after leaving an abusive situation thanks largely due our programs .
