Authentic Japanese cuisine. Love the sukiyaki and seasonal dishes here.
Choices of fishes are limited but very good service & environment.
Had dinner at SAKURA. Food was fresh and good with neat presentation. Fairly cozy - service was not very Japanese but very attentive and heartfelt.
The institute has been moved around in Causeway Bay a few times. It has 2 restaurants (technically 3 but actually 2, One higher end and one casual). There are many fancier JAPANESE restaurants in town but I will go this one for authentic JAPANESE food. It s a membership club though.
This club's "casual" restaurant "Sansai" has really nice sushi and sashimi, but most of the other food is just so-so, including their Teppan-yaki served at the higher-end "Sakura". Besides, although I wouldn't say they have horrible service, there's definitely room for improvement. Most can tell your local staff are bilingual in Japanese and Cantonese, but I think some of them can improve with their manners and services.
A local manager speaks loudly while on the phone and when talking with customers. She and some other staff walks really loudly as well, stomping the ground every step and seemingly showing how confident they are that they speak the Japanese language fluently (but clearly don't have the Japanese-level of customer service). They don't greet (or give a smile to) the customers as they arrive or leave the restaurant as well. All these can really affect the appetite of the customers, and stops club members' friends to join the club when they experience these themselves.
I can tell these are kind people, it just seems to me that a good staff training is needed to improve customer service and help with the club.
