Emily is an absolute gem! I learned to ride in England in the early 1960's; working student, BHSAI, competed in horse trials, returned to the US - then Pony Club Mom, and then owned two horses, one trained to 2nd Level Dressage. After a break I returned to riding in the spring of 2016 with Emily Osborne, and discovered I really did not know how to ride so my horse could carry me easily and in a healthy way for him. The biomechanics I have begun to learn instantly transform the experience for both me and the horse, and it is magical when I get it! Emily is the most patient, careful, supportive, encouraging teacher I have ever had, and it is always clear that she loves what she does. I can not recommend Heart of Riding highly enough!
Great way to learn or improve riding skills. Experienced folks will gain by fixing habits and altering their biomechanics as needed for a horses issues. I am 71, started riding eleven years ago and have balance, strength, and fear issues. Foreward horses scare me. I ve fallen numerous times either sliding off or tossed. Emily was recommended to evaluate and essentially have me start from scratch. I had all the beginner issues: balancing with my hands, pushing my stirrups to post, learning foreward and crunching at any misstep. Steering issues have me loose confidence. So after a few months I have improved tremendously. I m finding and strengthening muscles rarely used before. I can see the horse relax, lower his head, and move better. I can refocus quicker when I loose it. Using different imagery has helped me improve my sitting more back and straight, finding different thigh muscles has engaged them, raising toes and not lowering heels has helped, pushing my hands foreward is difficult but when I do it it helps the horse. Trying to find and keep track of sit bones is a challenge and helps a lot. I relearned how to turn and am trying to deal with jacknifing shoulders....all in all supportive learning atmosphere and knowledgeable teacher.
A wonderful place for a 12 year old to take lessons. Great teacher, nice teaching style, horses are really friendly (schooling type), easy to get to, nice facility, very social barn cats!
