The Glendalough Hotel Review

Very disappointed .serious run down. Wouldn't stay again.

The room was very comfortable, the receptionists were kind and accurate.
The food at the restaurant was very good, at an average price for Ireland.

Service was terrible. After waiting 40 mins for someone to take our dinner order we got up and left. At breakfast the following morning our order was taken relatively quickly but we then waited for 50 mins for our breakfast to be served, cold. Our toast came when we had finished our breakfast and it was freezing. Our male server was wearing a pair of jeans that were filthy. Definitely won't be going back.

I had a room just above the fireplace of the kitchen. the smell is unfortunately not pleasant. I had to keep the window closed, which I did not want, because you could not turn off the heater.

The room was great. I'd read on a hotel review site about slow internet but if you upgrade it's pretty speedy. Bit of a walk to the Temple-Bar area but easy enough for the savings... Folks, if you're looking for a value, this is a great place.

Lovely hotel. Quite old fashioned but in a charming way. The food and service is excellent.

Don't waste your money on this hotel, the service is very poor and the staff are not helpful.

Worst espresso of , 2.90 for warm water. Not strong, not hot, not tasty.

This has to be the worst hotel I've ever been to was supposed to stay one night stayed for 2 hours and left. Receptionist was not welcoming she hasn't a word of English she checked us in gave us no information about the hotel or the restaurant or where breakfast would be next morning. Never felt so unwelcome in a hotel she gave us are door key and that was that no have a nice stay nothing. Went to the room no curtains on the window very old tv very dated room. We went to the restaurant to book a table no staff around to ask we asked at reception she didn't understand English. We then left worst hotel in Ireland

Don't take this review personally, but the restaurant jext door did not have a review possibility.

First of all, we loved the service. We received the invoice within 5 seconds. We didn't even have to ask for it.

Secondly, the motive of the couch looked muddy, just as our trousers. We loved the colour. But Tom didn't appreciate the smell of the nature.

The beers where good. The waiters were very kind. Unfortunately, one waiter did not know how to wear a tie.

I stayed here with my 79 year old mom, on her "last visit to the Ole Country" what a great time. The service was amazing, the food was delicious and the location is off the hook.

Take a group because you feel like it and call us rude when you were leaving us and we had not done anything and we had already asked

From the minute you arrive there is a lovely welcoming feeling. The staff although busy had a smile and chat for everyone. The bedroom was spotless and
warm and comfortable. The food was top class. Dinner on both evenings was delicious and we had different meals each night. The locals were very friendly. Not to mention the lovely scenic walks upkept to the highest standard. So safe for children. I will definitely come back here again

complete scam charged me 75 euros for a bed and breakfast that I never ate. When I asked them for a refund since I never ate it they couldn't do it and I appearently paid for it when I booked the hotel (hidden scam). This hotel makes a living off off of dishonesty and theft of its clients. It has been 3 weeks since this happened and I am still frustrated that it even was allowed to happen in the first place.

I enjoyed the hot beverages and chocolate muffin served in the bar. Very freindly staff.

Location is unparalleled for Glendalough literally walked out the door to St Kevin's. Quaint hotel, large rooms,ours was updated. WiFi not so hot...Food and drink on site and good quality.

Lovely hotel, probably needs updating but in the current climate every euro counts but doing a great job. Great value, lovely food, comfortable beds and the location is perfect, steps from the lake and the Wicklow way. Loved our stay and highly recommend the Glendalough hotel

Very friendly people - clean rooms - fantastic food (good prices)

1: Placed order for food and waiting nearly an hour before we had to chase our order 2: Overcharged for food we did not receive 3: Food brought to the table was not to the standard you would expect in relation to the prices charged 4: Beef sandwich (two rounds of bread and 1very small slice of beef cost 9 euro Sea food chowder had to be returned due to unwashed muscle which made my wife I'll when bit into 5: Food utensil (spoon) had to be returned due to previous users food still on the spoon and not washed properly. This hotel has a fantastic opportunity to be marked on the map and should be recieving positive reviews. Please don't waste people's money and time and try to put this hotel/restaurant right.

The restaurant is really bad, there is almost no beef on the beef stew, food is not hot and there is no bread! Really disappointed

Unfortunately, I can not comment on the hotel. Were in the restaurant, service terrible, food was so expensive. I can not recommend it!

Love this place fantastic for new years eve if you have young children... Gorgeous food .. beautiful surroundings and stunning walks...

Lovely place for a pint and a bit of food after a nice walk in Glendalough. Only thing needs a bit of fresh paint.

Lovely for a coffee and treats after a walk in Glendalough. So cosy on cold rainy days.

We ate at the restaurant in the hotel. The food was kind of ok but we had to wait for more than an hour and the service was unbelievbly slow. We even had to wait for the menu and we disn't get the water we ordered. The price for such small portions is impertinent. Never again!!

Undeniably lovely location. Great hotel to use as a base for hiking/walking. Very nice bar and bistro, food quite good. I found the staff courteous and willing to help. It seemed some of them were new and still learning but they all doing a good job. Breakfast was very nice. Our triple room was quite cold but this was dealt with quickly when I mentioned it at reception. Word of warning.. room 110 can be noisy it is just near reception.
I would just mention I think the cost of the room per night was overpriced.

Stayed with my friends for one night and we are glad was only for one night. The location is nice and the room is not bad even tho no WiFi or a telephone to ring the reception. STAFF needs a lot of training they look so unhappy to be there and no communication at all with customers, dinner wasnt nice the steaks were burned but the breakfast was good. the atmosphere is dead and its draining to be in the hotel anyways I dont recommend it at all

Far too much cajun in the 'cajun fries' and the colour of the soup of the day (potato and leek) was very green and off putting. Luckily, the chowder saved the day.

One of the worst experiences eating out we've ever had..before we ordered we where asked to pay in advance or pay a deposit haha (musnt of liked how we looked) of course I wouldnt, even though my aunty did try..the waiter was really really rude, some of my chips were still frozen..we were then asked did we want desert we said yes the kids im sure do and he said well we are really busy...avoid at all costs!!

I recommend The Glendalough Hotel I enjoyed an afternoon break there and enjoyed their latte plus scones. I found the staff helpful and efficient. My thanks to all involved.

Spectacular situation. It needs reforms. Internet connection very bad.

Very badly managed.

Went to the outside service area to order 2 BBQ burgers and 2 beers (Advertising all over the canopy etc that beer is sold there) when i got to the counter was told the two girls working there were only 16 and couldn't serve alcohol. Fair enough it's the law but they're shouting about it been sold there.

Then to the burgers, the person making up burgers used his hands way to much. evening pick the burger of the flaming BBQ with his hands. No gloves on while doing any of prep. So very rough and ready. No sink in sight to washing hands. Just wiped his has on his dirty apron.
When i sat down to eat my burger i cut it in half to make sure it was cooked through. I think it's heart was still beating it was that bloody. So brought it back to get a fresh one that was cooked properly. The burgers were actually nice tho.

A bit later i went back again to get some ice cream. the same 16 year old girl served me and was under pressure as there was a large queue. The ice cream was frozen so hard she could hardly scoop it out. (Not her fault at all, she's a young girl and just didn't have the strength) so she had to resort to wedging the container of ice cream to her stomach and try to scoop it out. Which she needed 2 hands to do and was proving very difficult. When she was serving the customer in front of me she was leaning down to try get her weight into it to scoop out the ice cream her hair was actually in it. Again not the girls fault she was doing everything she could in the situation. I was there for about 1.5hrs and didn't see a senior staff member or manager check on this girl once.

In such a popular tourist location is sad to see the main place in the area to get some food and drink run so badly.

Beautiful settings hotel well presented rooms clean service a bit slow for me but enjoyed my stay

Located at site of historic Glendalough monastery in the Wicklow Mountains. Friendly staff and good was great.

The size of my room was a massive let down . The rooms are clean but dated and the walls are thin so getting a sound sleep is impossible

We waitnig just half hour than sombody coming and bring menu.....after we wait again half hour than somebody coming and pick up order.......ad waiter was not helpful. Never again.

The bar and bistro is so so. Slow service and you may need to ask twice if you need something.

The staff are friendly and helpful. It seemed when we were going to bed at stupid o'clock they were still about and when we got up for breakfast they were there too. Couldn't do enough to help out. Beautiful scenery and great for walking.
We were there for a wedding and had a 3 course meal. Beautiful food. I would definitely recommend it.

Popped in for lunch after walking the lakes. Clearly a tourist trap just out to make money and never mind Ireland s tourism reputation. Bord Failte should intervene here. 6.90 for a chicken and coleslaw sandwich in a plastic container.

Room was renovated as indicated in the booking. Staff was helpful, specially with the luggage storage since there was a wedding.

We love the Glendalough area. It is truly special. There are lots of walks and hikes to do. You can choose your length and level of difficulty. We did the white trail at the Wicklow National Park and it was fantastic.

Very poor wedding service... waiting two months to receive package deals for wedding received one month before wedding date after paying 1000 deposit. Awaiting a deposit refund, neglected to respond to email regarding same. Wouldnt use for a wedding.

Really appalling service, menu and change slammed down onto table. Coffee cold. Such a shame because its a gorgeous location and they should be providing a good service for the tourists.

Worst experience i ever had, the food in the restaurant was awful and we got our beers served in a paper to go cup...

I tried the hotdog (sausage on a baguette) that they served outside, but it would have tasted better, had been served on wet cardboard. The coleslaw was greasy. Two stars for the friendly staff that tried to make something of it.

Excellent spot to relax and unwind. Beautiful surroundings and Tony the Manager in charge is spot on, as is all the staff. Looked after my family and I so well and in such unprecedented times surrounding Covid 19 made us feel safe from the start. Will definitely be back and can't recommend this place to others highly enough. Food is great value too and to a very high standard. On to the lakes now for day 2 and don't want to leave...... Review part 2 to follow when we arrive back, no doubt it will be a mirror of our first visit. Thanks to all, Ken & family

My husband and I have dined here on numerous occasions before the lockdown but today was the first time we have been back and unfortunately the pricing has become very confusing. They now charge a supplement on top of the price of the meal - absolutely disgraceful I understand that the tourism industry has been hit hard by the pandemic closures but this is not the way to recoup the profits.

Yesterday I went to lunch on the restaurant. The worst service I have had in Ireland. The tables were dirty. Unprepared waiters. Even after we seated they didn t clean. They didn t prepare the tables with the cutlery. It was Sunday Easter but the restaurant was not busy and the service were slow and we waited hours for the food. The burgers were cold and the Oriental Express very salty. :(

Ate a meal here as part of a tour of ireland. It was the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel restaurant. We were routinely ignored by our waiter throughout the process, and had to ask multiple times for simple items such as water, bread, and salt. Gluten free and vegetarian options were not readily available and when we finally received them, it was comparable to elementary cafeteria food. Absolutely repulsive. Waiter was not helpful and refused to get the manager to try and bring these issues to light. Only by the interference of our tour guide were we finally given proper food and care. I will never be coming here again and will make sure nobody I know even considers this place is passing thought.

Service was awful, no cutlery and was rudely told to order at the bar. The food is like something from the early 60 s, cold and tasteless. Do yourself a favour and avoid this dump.

A decidedly solid menu. However, at times, the service is so egregiously lackluster and the staff so seemingly misinformed as to their job functions let alone matters of efficiency that the food can't make up for the ruined experience.
In the true style of a mismanaged staff, the service can also be timely, pleasant and knowledgeably performed. The contrast is stark.

Wi-Fi is non existent, staff were rude, service in general was very poor.

visited here earlier today ....both of us got a bowl(small)of vegtable soup ...very average terms taste/quality ...service very prompt ....shocked see cost for soup been 6.25 .....more shocked see it had gone upto 6.50!!!againwe got the bill....PLUS it seems few bits of (verly stale)brown bread igot with mine( INSTEAD of the white roll thats INCLUDED in the the 6.25).....sorry 6.50.....imf really needs study inflation in glendalough .....costs 1 euro extra .....that is to say ...a
bowl(small)of average quality taste vegtable soup with few bits(literally)brown almost stale brown bread will cost you 7.50...!!!!!!!!.(allowing for inflation check on the day....sorry hour ).....surprisngly enough when i queried this bill was ammened fortwith and without discussion.... which i thought strange unless .......................naw they wouldnt would they .....

First impression when entering reception remained when entering the rooms - old-fashioned, dirty and unfriendly. TV didn't work. Bathroom not clean as expectable for hotel room with this rate. Thin walls so you can hear the Live Bar Music in the night or your room neighbour.
Reception lady just ready to talk when it's about check-in and check-out.

Poor buffet but we haven't expected more.
This service lady did a marvellous job!

Wifi worked at our room.
Surrounding area amazing, and that's the main good thing for this hotel unfortunately.
High time for investing and renew the standards, could be such a nice one with better management!
