Cool place. Great variety of vintage, mall brand and designer brand duds. Something for everyone! Prices are a bit high on mall brands, but can find some deals on designer duds. Glad I visited, got a super deal on Ferragamo, Sonia Rykiel, etc. Thought it was just a costume store at first!

This is definitely a unique spot. It's basically tradition for anyone in Cambridge or Somerville to make sure to hit up the garment district to find your costume for Halloween. The nice thing is you can find all sorts of great stuff year round for costumes. At the same time you can check out a huge selection of second hand clothing options at great prices.

I went there on a Saturday and it was quite busy. The $2 for a pound section(downstairs) had a few good options and I'm really hap[py with what I found. On the other hand, the upstairs shopping was ridiculously overpriced. They were selling used clothes for the same price, or possibly more, as new clothes.

good clothes-- overpriced though bringing the rating down. i had collected-- in the bag they give you-- a jacket from the by the pound section and carried it with my as I continued looking around and I was followed by the staff for a very long time, confused as to why I was bring followed around and then they took the bag and said it would be at the register. That didn't seem necisarry at all. still bought it although that kinda made me not want to

Shopping at the Garment District is a BIG ADVENTURE!

Come here to treasure hunt through endless racks of vintage and designer clothing. You simply never know what you'll find on any given Sunday. What you can count on is it's always going to be highly discounted off the original price, yet, still in good condition. The clothing racks are conveniently labeled for faster browsing. IE. "Designer Jackets" and "70s Clothing"

Downstairs offers up one HUGE pile of clothes to pick through, on the floor, for ONLY $1.50 POUND! (Oh Yeah, it's kind of dirty on the floor, but, remember...you're treasure hunting...think of yourself as a clothing archeologist.)

The best! If your a youngin and looking for that 80 s look look no further they have it all. They carry all kinds of face masks. I mainly go there for there mens jeans. Levi s Armani s CK you name they have the top brand names jeans for under $24.99 I live close but I really need to take advantage of the store that has the best stuff for less. Staff member Marlene is amazing she explained the return items situation to me she was excellent. Thank you

I went there to get something specific, but I think this place is better if you don't know what you're getting and you just want to pick out a costume. The place is really cluttered and it's a bit difficult to find specific things. The people are really helpful, and you can get a pretty good deal on costumes.

So glad we were recommended this place by a couple of the locals. What a deal! Went in looking for some snowboarding gear during season which was difficult, but for absolutely anything you might need (including costumes) you can find second hand here.

I was in the store earlier this week, i witnessed a couple of women who were there working be completely disrespectful to a customer. I guess this customer "improperly" hung up some clothes she had just tried on and one of the employees made a VERY snarky comment to her about it. Then that same employee began talking about the costomer rudely AND loudly to another employee. They were laughing and saying very hurtful things. The customer clearly heard them and just looked so sad and confused. It was really disappointing to see the employees behave this way. Completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and just downright cruel. I urged the girl to make an offical official complaint with the store. I hope these two women are fired. I work in customer service as well and this was just so astounding I've never seen anything like it.

This is THE go-to spot for used clothes shopping and costumes. On a last minute jaunt for a Halloween costume, I spent literally 20 minutes in and out with everything I needed. The staff was amazingly helpful, knew exactly where everything was that I was looking for, and did it all with a smile.

I get fully 80% of my clothes here, including many of my shoes. They have a really diverse selection of styles and somehow they always keep their stocks quite full. Merchandise is almost always used, but very good quality and quite cheap in price.

The strong point of this place is the sheer diversity of stuff. They have all kinds of colors, all kinds of fashion periods, 50s jackets, 60s bell bottoms, 80s tees, 90s baggy pants ... if you like to go on an adventure and see what you can find, this is the place to go. Really good costumey/accessory stuff as well - belts, handbags, etc. They even have a dedicated clothing section for physical working conditions.

Do not expect selection to be consistent here across body sizes and types. This is not the kind of place where you meticulously plan beforehand what you'll buy and try on different sizes of the same garment. They have a lot, but it's a what-you-see-is-what-you-get deal. I've never left empty-handed.

The Garment District is one of my favorite places in Cambridge for vintage clothes, especially if you have a free 30 or 45 minutes to really wander around and explore. Clothes are divided into eras, so if you're looking for a 90s blouse (they have a great selection), just look for the shirts in the 90s section.

Staff are helpful and the environment is fun - which you'll notice as soon as you see the bright pink on the building!

There is also an extensive costume selection, which I don't frequent as often, but based on my experience in the vintage section, staff will always help you find what you need.

I wish I could give zero stars. Racist much?! I have visited this store multiple times and this time it was the worst experience ever. Found a few items I liked and was about to cash out. The lady at the register greeted me with an awful scowl. Not even an hello, or did you find everything okay. Instead she said "let's start by cashing out your items from the Pound first." She proceeded to ring up my items from the Pound, then I paid for them. Then she began to ring up the items from upstairs. When she told me the total I respectfully told her I wanted to make sure enough was in my account to cover the purchase. I politely told her to serve the person behind me. As she cashed him out I noticed a complete difference in the way she treated him compared to how she treated me. She greeted him politely, laughed with him and was personable. After she finished serving him, she greeted the other person behind me, as though I was invisible (both customers were Caucasian). Then I looked at her and she said in a rude tone, "are you going to buy this or what?" I said yes, she rung up my items and I said to her "I heard you offering the other customer a discount, do I get one?" She said, in a matter of fact way, "No!" After she finished cashing up the items I noticed she had not given me my items from the Pound, they were just sitting on the scale in the bag. I was livid at the blatant disrespect and the immense lack of customer service she showed me. After getting my items off the scale I then asked to speak to the manager. The manager seemed unbothered and aloof as I asked why some people were given discounts and others weren't. She said that only friends of their employees were given discounts. I don't think that's fair, but I was more so disgusted by the way the manager and the awful sales representative explained the reason I was not given a discount. I left there knowing that I would never return. This store is definitely no longer a place where everyone of all races are welcomed and respected!

The Garment district is a solid place to grab vintage clothes, of mostly pretty good quality. I've made a number of good jacket finds on their normal racks, and their by the pound pile on the main floor has lots of crazy good deals. They've got a lot of stuff, too, more than most goodwill stores around town. A great place!

The Garment District is like a fantasy land for vintage shoppers. Essentially it is a vintage department store, organized by item type and age of the clothes. They also have a lot of amazing new things that are hard to find elsewhere. My sister once had spent months searching for a fanny pack before a trip we were going on. As soon as she told me her problem I headed to the garment district and was able to send photos of about 20 different options that fit her needs. I've found so many really incredible treasures there that have become signature pieces.

The boutique clothing can be a bit overpriced, but the second hand stuff for the most part is kick ass. There's also something really gratifying about digging through the buck-a-pound and coming up with gold!

Went on Wednesday. I was shocked at how high the prices are for secondhand clothing. 35$ for a used denim jacket? There was nothing there you cant find at any other consignment store for far less. The costume area was fun to look around at but again, overpriced

For a thrift shop is too way overpriced. For that I just go to the actual store and buy it on sale or on regular prices. The special Friday events of $2/1lb is madness. People stepping an walking all over the clothes and digging in a pile of crumbled pieces for no reason.

Huge old factory space that houses costume rental and sales, stage and special effects makeup, and used clothing, shoes and accessories. The prices here are higher than many other second hand shops. However, there is a "by the pound" section that comprises the used clothing equivalent of the ball pit at Chuck E Cheese. You can wade (literally) in and fill a bag or bags that are weighed at the cash register. Lots of denim, including a wall of overalls. Good for diy costumes and for period garments from the 70s onward.
One bargain we noticed was a number of pairs of cowboy boots with leather soles -- perfect for country and line dancing and under $50.

Great place for all your costume needs around Halloween!! A huge inventory of choice! When it's not time to dress up you can easily find tons of vintage/2nd hand choices here. Highly recommended!
