If Elizabeth is a representation of the staff at The Family Center, then I recommend this Organization to anyone facing tough situations that seems almost impossible. Having an attorney that cares is rare.

The Family Center is a Wonderful place that helps out a lot of people in and outside of their community. They help families dealing with Cancer, HIV & Aids, BBereavement Counseling, they have a Mental Health Clinic, the Buddy Program and so much more programs and if they can't help you they will point you in the right direction. When they say Family Center they mean Family because they will truly help you with whatever services you need. The staff is very professional and nice and has your best interest at heart.
I was lucky to find The Family Center for help. At a time of my life where I was managing high levels of anxiety and depression, Anita B. instantly provided me with support that was life changing during my intake. After the first session with Anita and Amy of their parental journey program, the course of my life took a turn for the better and hope was established. I have recommended this program to my brothers. As a father, I believe that every new parent would benefit from this program and also help you become the best parent your child needs. Thank you Anita and Amy.
Truthfully I think these people really lack understanding and compassion for how to help people. The plus is it is close in my neighborhood although Fulton is disgusting. But they would do nothing to help me with my daughter who was in foster care and got adopted which is very unhealthy the dynamic. They referred me to their lawyer interns who were rude and very nasty. Then I attended a group with women who were recovering from substance abuse. But I have a college degree and they won't help me find work really. How can you care about the family when people can't even support themselves on social services? Then I freaked out because they were helping me do a housing application and the guy asked me if I was pregnant which seemed inappropriate. I feel like the staff here honestly lives under some entitled rock that has no understanding what people are suffering. Not sure how people go to social work school and don't know anything about the struggles on living on public assistance in New York City.
As a Native Brooklynite, I've seen changes occur in Brooklyn neighborhoods throughout the years, some good some bad. It brings me great joy to see an organization like The Family Center reside in Brooklyn. The location is easily accessible, the A train to Nostrand Avenue. An extra perk is that Nostrand is an express stop and the walk from the train station is less than a block away from The Family Center.
The Family Center provides a variety services; so clients benefit from this one-stop location for all types of assistance. Traditionally organizations like The Family Center have always been located in Manhattan. Since Brooklyn has become a "Hot Spot", mainly due to the controversial gentrification process, its imperative to note that The Family Center is a welcomed change. Then staff is professional, friendly and caring and site itself is cheerful and uplifting. If you have an opportunity or a need for assistance, do not walk but run to The Family Center.
The Family Center located on Nostrand ave. in Bklyn is, base on my experience with this agency is a very good CBO (Community Base Org.) that has many services to meet the needs of families, not only in the neighborhood but from any where you may come from. Staff is courteous, respectful, professional and are trained in being confidential with clients. I have used their law dept. and participated in a few workshops. ie I am attending right now a workshop for caregivers, on how different traumas affects children in different stages and ages in their lives. They also have counseling services, and recovery groups. My experience thus far has made me feel from staff and other clients, welcomed, care and concern, and a positive and safe place to come to. I am very grateful for all who I have come in contact with and I look forward to attending more workshops.
