About The Dax Centre

The Dax Centre is a unique organization that has been dedicated to promoting mental health awareness through art for over 20 years. The Dax Centre Collection consists of over 15,000 creative works on paper, paintings, ceramics, and textiles created by people who have experienced mental illness or psychological trauma. The collection is a testament to the power of art as a therapeutic tool and an expression of the human experience.

The Dax Centre was founded in 2002 by Dr. Beaumont Smith, a psychiatrist who recognized the value of art therapy in treating mental illness. He named the center after his patient Cynthia Dax, who had used her artistic talents to cope with her own struggles with depression and anxiety.

Today, The Dax Centre continues to be at the forefront of promoting mental health awareness through its exhibitions and educational programs. Its mission is to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness by showcasing the creativity and resilience of those who have experienced it firsthand.

One of the most notable features of The Dax Centre is its collection itself. With over 15,000 pieces from artists all around Australia, it's one of the largest collections in existence that focuses on artwork created by individuals with lived experience with mental health issues or psychological trauma.

The artworks themselves are incredibly diverse - ranging from paintings and drawings to sculptures and textiles - but they all share one thing in common: they offer an intimate glimpse into what it's like living with a mental illness or experiencing psychological distress.

In addition to its impressive collection, The Dax Centre also hosts regular exhibitions that showcase different themes related to mental health. These exhibitions are curated thoughtfully so that visitors can gain insight into various aspects related to this topic while also enjoying beautiful artwork.

Moreover, The center offers educational programs for schools as well as professional development opportunities for healthcare providers interested in learning more about how art therapy can be used effectively as part of treatment plans for patients struggling with their emotional wellbeing.

Overall if you're looking for an organization that promotes positive change regarding Mental Health Awareness then look no further than "The DAX Center". It's truly inspiring how much work they've done towards reducing stigma surrounding Mental Illnesses while simultaneously showcasing some incredible artwork!
