I worked for The Crosby Group Inc. back just before the turn of the millennium, around 1998-1999 for approximately one-year-and-four months.
When I was hired onto this union organization, I got the feeling I was hired on because a union contract was coming up. What better time to hire on new people who will be glad to have employment then when a union contract might possibly be contested by the majority of workers? That's when I learned I was hired, and I almost immediately found myself in a circumstance where I might have to go on strike.
We did not go on strike, but I was laid off shortly after the union contract was approved and no strike was mandated. This was my first taste of union work and have refused to work for a union ever since leaving this pathetic employer.
They either have or had, when I was employed at Crosby, a "tier" structure to the wages paid out. In other words, I did the same work as my cohorts, but was paid less than those who were there longer and on the tier 1 payscale. When women today protest for equal pay, they are not talking about people who were literally in my position even though that's exact the position I was working within.
As far as training goes, you're basically on your own and better have a good head on your shoulders. While I was employed with The Crosby Group Inc., a worker lost his leg and almost died. I, personally, could have found myself in a much worse situation if not for the assistance of my co-workers. I learned a lot working here, but it was not because the company cared to teach/train me.
I will never forget my experiences working for The Crosby Group Inc. in Tulsa, OK.
