Working with The Choice was a nightmare I can only...

Working with The Choice was a nightmare I can only be glad I no longer have to experience. Initially, I was pleased with them. They got me a position and started me off at what I thought was a fair rate. They were super careful to follow up with me and ask how I was doing. This was not to last. In the months following, I received relentless emails that bordered on harassment from their HR coordinator. They constantly reminded me that I was THEIR employee, and not the company I actually worked for. This would occur if I would notify the company I worked for of things like taking off or leaving early before I notified The Choice. I shouldn't fail to mention that the times I reported hours I needed off to The Choice, they reported them incorrectly - something I then had to fix. They wondered why I wanted to just report the hours to my direct supervisor.

An especially callous interaction came when I had taken a day off after a close relative's funeral. The HR coordinator sent me an email apologizing for my loss, before immediately diving into copied-and- pasted corporate jargon about letting them know by phone when I would be out. He emails me to tell me that email is not a suitable medium of communication! I was furious with them at this point. Emails I sent to both their president and CEO bounced back, and at the end of this review, I'll indicate why this was probably a good thing.

Now that I have been free of The Choice for half a year, I can only say that it is wonderful not to be chained to such a greedy and selfish organization. But, I have learned a few things since. They did not take out any state taxes - meaning come tax season, I owed a considerable amount. A company that cashes in on another individual's labor - and does little else - is too lazy just to complete such a small and necessary task? This further confirms my suspicions about their lack of credibility. On top of that, I have learned from a newer employee within my company (who is currently employed by The Choice) that they were deeply troubled by verbal harassment on the part of the CEO herself. To know that they are continuing to treat their 'employees' so coldly is just disgusting to me, in addition to knowing that it starts from the CEO and trickles down. I'm hoping that one day this place will have their true colors exposed and regulatory action taken.

Until then, I'm hoping my review will help at least help a few people to stay away. That, in itself, would be justice.

The team at the Choice is unmatched in their professionalism and service. They were incredibly helpful and encouraging throughout my interview and hiring process for a direct hire position. I have worked with other staffing agencies before and there is a noticeable difference in how smaller agencies like The Choice treat job seekers. I especially appreciated their timely communication and follow-up emails to ensure I was satisfied with my placement. Would highly recommend!

I had a great experience working with The Choice! They were prompt, professional, and kind. They sent me quite a few job opportunities, and if I was interested, they would submit my application. I ended up being placed in a position that I really liked! Overall, good job opportunities and nice people, I highly recommend if you're looking to find a job!

I love this company. I submitted my resume and within two days I had a call from Ellen Cook. We did a brief intro and then I was in for an interview that same week. During my interview with Ellen, she suggested a job already. Within the week I had all of my interviews with the company, and started the following week. I was moving to DC without a plan, and Ellen and The Choice was a key factor in getting a job! Now I am being employed full time by the same company that Ellen helped place me! Everyone was extremely helpful and even when Ellen wasn't available each of the women knew exactly who I was and where I was placed. I didn't feel like just another number. Also when I got my full time offer, Ellen was just as excited as I was! It was incredible.

I cannot recommend The Choice enough. I found out ...

I cannot recommend The Choice enough. I found out about the agency by applying to a job posted on LinkedIn in October 2019. After interviewing me, they were deeply considerate of my career interests and goals and helped me secure a 6 month contract position with a respected medical association in the area. The contract ended in April 2020 at the height of the pandemic but Allison and her team kept in touch with me and in August, they connected me with a temporary opportunity that turned into a permanent hire during the pandemic. I automatically felt at ease with this group due to their professionalism, kindness, and commitment to their contractors. The fact that The Choice is woman owned is a huge plus to me as well. During my initial contract position, I lost two family members within a two week period and they were incredibly kind and empathetic with me as I tried to navigate funeral arrangements on top of work. I know that my career is much more on track than it was a year ago and I credit The Choice with helping me get there. If you are looking for a way to gain experience with respected nonprofits and associations in the DC, The Choice is the only temp agency (out of the 6 companies that I've interviewed with) that I would recommend.

The Choice Inc. - a work team fallen from heaven! After a long search, even with the assistance of numerous agencies, I found The Choice Inc. in the most unexpected way and in less than two weeks, they were the ones who accommodated me in a job in which today I am very content and very grateful.
The Staff of The Choice Inc., besides from being so professional with their work, they are also very friendly and very gentle. The experience of visiting the office was a very unique experience!
Thank you so much The Choice Inc. and your entire team!

I do NOT recommend this place.

I do NOT recommend this place.

First, find out clearly how much $ money they take vs. what you get paid. Not worth it.

Second, they said they contacted my references repeatedly in a short time, which I worry annoyed my references. I expect the Choice to wait a reasonable time to hear back, not pester references repeatedly for an immediate reply.

Now I'm afraid my references - which are great - will stop offering to be a reference for me because of the way the Choice people acted.

They have located multiple assignments, quickly and professionally. They have compensated me fairly, and always return my calls. I'm trying not to be overly enthusiastic, but as a new-comer to the DC, this agency has been a God-send.
My resume now shows a successful work experience in the DC area, and my employments offers have begun to respond more often.

I had a great experience with the Choice. They got to know me, advocated for me, and matched me with opportunities based on my interests. I signed up with them and had 3 interviews within a week, and ended up working full time with one of the organizations. The only downside is that their benefits such as PTO, health insurance, etc doesn't kick in until after 90 days because we are hourly workers with them. However, they are very communicative, and willing to work with you to make sure you have a supportive experience. I highly recommend!

I'm honestly so grateful to have found The Choice Inc. earlier this year. As a recent grad, I wasn't entirely sure about which career path I wanted to pursue, but Maggie and The Choice helped me out in so many ways. Maggie really took the time to listen to my thoughts and concerns and suggested an excellent job opportunity for me. Unlike other employment agencies, The Choice is so unique because everyone there is truly focused on your best interests. I've been with this company for about 3 months now and I am so thankful to Maggie and The Choice for all of their hard work. I highly recommend this team of dedicated and caring people!

I was connected with The Choice through a friend who knew I was feeling frustrated at my then job and believed a career shift would really help me. My initial interview with The Choice was really relaxed, the staff was all incredibly welcoming and made a point to really get to know what I was interested in doing. I accepted a temp position with an environmental non-profit organization in February. We transitioned to WFH just 3 weeks into my position starting. Through this all, The Choice staff was highly communicative, checking in via phone and email to make sure I was handling the changes and had been provided the necessary tech-items from my placement to get my work done.

The position was intended to cover a staff members 4-6 month maternity leave, but was extended and eventually I was hired on as a full time staff member in November. I am so grateful for The Choice for connecting me with this opportunity and putting me back on track in a career that I am truly passionate about!!

I worked with multiple temp agencies in the DC area during my job search this winter, and The Choice was by far the only one I would recommend. Other agencies and recruiters tried to push positions on me even when they weren't a fit for my skills or career trajectory, but The Choice was always respectful and professional throughout the process. They were well organized and I didn't have the same chaotic experience I had at other agencies. They found a position exactly within the short-term parameters I was looking for, and within two weeks of interviewing with them I was starting a job. They're always responsive, respectful, and there to help.

The women at The Choice are amazing! Every single one of them is communicative, positive, supportive and helpful. My experience with staffing agencies in the past had been sub-par so I was weary to work with The Choice however I am so glad I did! They matched me with an incredible non-profit that met all my financial and work environment needs. The best part is that once I was hired, they were so happy for me. I highly recommend anyone who is searching for a job in the DC area to check out The Choice.

I interviewed with them within a few weeks of arriving to town. They offered me 2 very low paying positions in the DC area which would barely cover the daily commute cost. One of which was in a call center which I specifically stated in my interview was an absolute NO so shocker that they acted surprised when I declined. And like usual with most sheisty recruiters, if you turn them down then you ll never hear from them again.

They were friendly at first but that quickly fizzled out when they realized that I wasn t desperate and wouldn t just take any job they called and offered me. It s been well over 6 weeks and haven t heard anything else from them. Luckily for me I found the type of job I moved cross country for and not with the help of this agency! Look elsewhere if you wish to save yourself a headache and experience GOOD service.

I am so thankful to have found The Choice when I did last year. They really listened to what I was interested in and provided me with various employment options. All of the staff at The Choice are close knit, therefore everyone in the office knows about your interests and your position and are willing to help. Everyone is caring and super supportive!

These ladies found me a full-time, well paying job within weeks of me interviewing with them. They offered me a few temporary jobs that I declined at first, as I wanted something a little more long-term, and they did not make me feel discouraged or bad for turning down what they offered. They kept looking until they found a job they thought would be the perfect fit, and that I could confidently accept.

As I said, within weeks I started a temporary, full-time position that actually ended up turning into a permanent opportunity in which the company brought me on board. I could not have gotten this job without the help of The Choice.

People have to understand (i.e. those discouraged in the negative reviews) that this is a job placement agency with a lot of temporary and temp-to-hire positions. They cannot and do not guarantee that they will land you your permanent dream job ASAP. But they do certainly help you get a leg up, get your foot in the door, and build your resume with the opportunities they present to you. The rest is work that YOU have to put in because it is YOUR career.

When I contacted The Choice and began working with them, I was on the verge of quitting and giving up all I had worked for after interning for a year in DC and still having no luck finding a job. I was about to move back to my home state and was extremely discouraged and depressed. But they gave me hope and a new start. Go with these guys! It will take some patience, but they are on your side and want to help you!
