HORRIBLE place to sleep. The staff let the lights open all night long, there's no curfew do people can yell,talk loud and do many other things all night long.last night I slept there a fight happened for whatever reason and the worst of all they wake you up at ...4:30am in the middle of the night. Really a bad and horrible experience. I prefer sleeping in another shelter or straight outside in the coldness or in a McDonald's.

Management disparaging and demoralizing clients. Clients have no recourse when falsely accused.

its ok place i guess...they wash clothes everyday(closed 12-1), have temp work(show up by 6am) clothe store Monday 8-11/1-3, Thursday 8-11/1-3 ,phone you can use,book store,vending machines 'they also have overnight shelter 7-430am but 2nd floor its 7-6am..and maybe then some' find more info the nex visit your there

A place that is still helping homeless Calgarians, despite City Council's efforts to sweep them out of the East End.

Very large shelter for our homeless population. Amazing staff. Variety of services offered. Huge food source for those that need it. Tons of compassion. Works closely with other agencies

Disappointed. Came once & never again. They present themselves more like a prison then a place that assists you. I need just a form to fill out to get my ID sent to this place. Didn't need any money for it just had to get a form filled out. They photograph you & take your fingerprints when you walk in. It is an NGO but I couldn't believe it. I just wanted a simple form & the staff I was directed to was clearly not having a good day. Told her that I was directed here by the Ministry & to pickup a form just to have some ID mailed here & she was no help & insisted that they don't provide this service anymore. Either that or the Ministry to get ID is out of date. No help, never came back. It's a prison from poor people.

We volunteered. Very friendly and accommodating to us. Nice people

It was pretty tough getting woke up at like 4am and I slept on the second floor. Was in the lime up for coffee and was trying to let a old man go first when this person started jabbing me in the back I turned around and said what he started hopping around like he was going to fight me then I looked behind me and this big fat lady behind the counter was screaming at me so I left only to come back that night and find out I was kicked out
Ps I had even previously volunteered twice for lunch time and was in the kitchen prepping meals for the lunch line in hopes of maybe not going hungry since I also lived there and it didn't really work

People who work there are very helpful and take the time to get to know a person and for that I'm grateful

There is a time in my life when I was in need of assistance with food and shelter. I humbled myself and walked through the doors to this place. I'm truly grateful for its existence. The staff were genuinely helpful, conscientious, and caring towards me.

Always crowded with people taking drugs on the street and camping out. A lot of issues around the area.

The building is well made, the staff try real hard and the people are people, it is what it is.

This is the best shelter for the homeless population in Calgary specifically. They are provided with endless resources and support to help them fight addiction, mental health issues, homelessness, job lost, medical conditions and the list goes on and on. Clients are truly the number one priorities while maintaining staff safety. The Calgary Drop-In work collaborate with the city and other agencies to make sure clients utilize resources they may not find while staying at the drop in such as women running from abusive relationships. Pay is average, risk of job depending on shift can range from average to extremely dangerous. Its a very intense and at times stressful environment, but from time to time it can be rewarding when you see people progress in life and move out of the shelter.

Homeless Shelter... They do the best they can, but a horribly underfunded and underappreciated. Would give 4 stars if there was less corruption in the staff.

Never thought I would become a client at this location..when things went south for me, this is where I lived while I got back to being able to live at a place I could call home...it was a place to sleep, eat, get clothing, and help from the staff...Prior to Covid, there was a lot of us there, when Covid took off, we ware dispersed to different parts of the city. 60+ of us located to the westend of the city and then to the sw for final placement in our own rentals...through out the process we were helped by the staff. To be candid, as a former "homeless person" I saw many acts of kindess from people who would come in and serve meals pre-covid or drop off food, clothing etc outside the Drop-in over xmas. On the flip-side i saw the seedier parts of what happens to people who have lost everything and only care for drugs etc...It is not easy, and to be kind you have to have a plan to get out of this environment. With the help of the staff, alot of us have our own places, employment or are starting our own businesses. We don't ask for much, just an opportunity to contribute to society. You woujld be surprised on how much "kindness" means to us. To know we are not the forgotten people. That small act of charity made a difference for me and my future.

There is no place like home but if you have no where to call home they embrace and take good care of you.
Staff are very compassionate and Clint recommend here than most other shelters around

An absolute blight on the town. Nothing but chaos from here and this sort of facility should be on the edge of town to keep the street people away from regular citizens.

If your down and out and need a compassionate hand, if your looking for a way out and ready to work it...they are there.

Excellent choice for those who require basics and beyond (shower, laundry, a place for the night, or a meal, among myriad other services). Free and always available, the DI is happy to help you, whether you need them for a minute or for months. Great people working here. It IS a shelter though, so expect sub-par cleanliness. For their part, however, the staff always strive to keep things neat.
EDIT: highly dangerous; there have been a series of (oft-unreported) violent assaults, including an incident that left a man partially eviscerated. Apparently these incidents are relatively commonplace.

This is an excellent organization with dedicated people helping others less fortunate. Nothing but a 5 is deserved.

There is a diverse group of people and the staff is friendly

I have been a volunteer for over 10 years. This shelter turns away no one and offers a wide array of programs to assist Calgary's most vulnerable population. Keep up the good work!

Avoid this place ! With the allegations made through the media recently, of bullying , and Corruption, tyranny, this place should be closed as soon as possible I feel sorry for the clients that have to deal with this place day-to-day

Don't know what I would have done without it. Both the staff and residents taught me more than anyone will ever know... ..

Friendly staff, caring environment for the most part

I am really sad to know they maybe closing. I moved to Calgary 2yrs ago and had nothing. Someone directed me here and now I am in my own place, made friends, and if at anytime I need to talk to someone, get a referral, or just visit and have a coffee with some old friends. I know I can count on them. The staff are happy, always seem to be busy BUT will take 2-3mins to listen to you. They are so helpful and go the extra mile to see that you are taken care of. I will surely miss this place as I think of it as my home still and my family.

Incredible service for Calgarys most vulnerable community.

I didn't eat from this place but it sure is a great organization to cater to the needs of the people who require the service. A great place to volunteer as a group to pay back to the society.

2507 shuttles at night every hour from 5:50 till midnight

It's for people that are already down. So many of the people here are very angry, including staff.

Free clothing for low income people they also have showers and you can do your laundry here. You can get three meals a day here and all of your hygiene products that you need. They also have a program that you can take where you can receive 16 tickets towards getting a good job here in Calgary. They include tickets like whimis,fall protection awareness, confined space awareness,lock out tag out,lift truck awareness,h2s alive,csts, transportation of dangerous good , toxicology and so on they have woodworking classes and they are over all a good company.

As per their harm reduction policy all drunk and high individuals are allowed in bldg. This makes it incredibley tough for sober people to use services.being surrounded by users all day will drive you right back into the loving arms of your own addictions....why doesn't administration here see this elephant in the room ?

It's ok ,but it's also going under the bridge like water! Soon won't exist!

DI serves a huge purpose in community a lot of people don't understand about shelters in society. My case in this ongoing hostage scenario, sabotaged from gainful employment, systematically robbed and frauded. No Human or Civil Liberties, unfortunately I'm relegated to shelter system. No end in site.

This place is a heaven on Earth. If you have something sitting at home or something you don't need,please donate at DI centre as this place caters to the needs of the needy people and makes sure the things are distributed to the people in need.
Well hope we all contribute our share back to the community and we all pay back our share of it.

Not a place anyone wants to be but a godsend for those that need it. I have nothing but kind words for the staff. I can honestly say this place saved my life.

There are some staff here that do care about clients but alot of em should not be working here if they are just here for the pay check. Alot of inhumane things happen in this building. People having to be kicked out in the cold with nothing. People being held against their will. People not meeting their daily needs cuz small percent of staff care about treating the clients like human beings and helping them with those needs. There are alot of people that need medical service every day and should be in a home. I think every staff member should be required to stay here atleast a week to understand how hard daily living here is. Thank you very much to the staff that work with their hearts.

The reason I give my two deliveries I lost 01-2
I was not named they are 19 17 now the other half did not test so I can get my calgary babies back so from 00-2019 I give it four because pms pills and mess ate packed late and the homeless can't hold there own if you stay there so good for late cumers I guess

My friend plugged his phone and left a minute . Came back, it was stolen. Video shows the thief but they wont let my friend know. He knows lots of people there. Another friend was sitting by his guitar and a guy asked who's it was and ended up walking off with it in front of the owner. Security there says they will tell the thief of the phone he is barred from staying there unless he returns the phone. THIS HAPPENED 3 rd week JULY 2017.

Good food....warm place...friendly and helpful staff...interesting people....showers..laundry...when you're homeless....do u need anything else?

The diversity of people you'll meet in this building is off the hook.Not only do we live in the stewing pot of Canada(if not the world) here in Calgary Alberta, but people from all different social backgrounds appear in this particular outlet. From tour groups and volunteers to counseling and medical staff and of course, some of the most vulnerable people in our community.The DI is an essential service to this city. Not everything that happens there is pretty. Nor is it just. Its a tough area. Everything you want to say, it's mostly true. But if it helps just one person make it though, if it helps one person survive the hardest moments of there lives then isn't it worth it? Well, i can assure you the DI has done just that for hundreds and hundreds of people and so much more. It's worth it!
Also, there was a real good looking janitor working there a couple years back. He's a keeper. Have a great day everyone.

Great place to be robbed, disrespectful and go nowhere fast on drugs

I worked here and absolutely loved my job. I left because of personal reasons but have to say that from what I seen in my two years of employment there that they are beyond a shadow of a doubt the most caring and loving people I've ever met. The staff bend over backward for their clients and give all they have to make someone else's life a little better. If your a compassionate person and not afraid to work hard I would highly recommend working for the DI. Love mends all wounds and the DI truly does love people.

Staff are rude and inconsiderate. They lie and tell you Different things each time. Rules are biased and often times staff are lazy. They say they re there to help but really all they do is stand there with a finger up their bum. It is safer than alpha house but if you can, I d recvomend going to the Mustard seed

A roof and meals when I need them, but avoid dating here....

I own a condo on riverfront ave right near the DI. There are so many homeless dealing drugs on riverwalk its crazy they throw garbage all over the place they harrass people walking by they sleep in the bushes and deficate there that centre is 100% useless.

Amazing place to work and volunteer! Great things are always happening at the DI!

Sometimrs good food. Free and worth it if u have no choice. Lots of mental cases never shutting up
