What a gem of a place , just at the city gates , it's a working convent dating back to 1686 the rooms are spotless a very good hospitality tray , the breakfast is wonderful and the staff were very helpful and friendly it's quirky and we live it and will definitely be coming back , this afternoon we had sandwiches and a drink in the gardens so pretty and tranquil so pleased that we found this place and only 300 yards from the train station

This is a wonderful, peaceful oasis.

The cafe is excellent with a large outdoor garden. The museum is very interesting, and the chapel is a beautiful building. Whether you are religious or not you are sure to find something from this place.

Great museum with a lot of catholic history. Having attended All Saints RC school next door many years ago it was lovely to go back into the Chapel (shared by school and museum) with my two daughters.

I forgot to review this fantastic guest house after my trip to York in early September. The guesthouse is full of history and the staff, including Phil the night manager (who should be commended for his fantastic customer service.

The hotel was immaculately clean throughout and my room was treated with the same levels of customer service I'd expect to find at a fancy London hotel. Excellent throughout!

The food at the Bar Convent was tasty at breakfast time with a good range of breakfast cereals and condiments on offer.

York City Centre is only a few minutes walk away along Micklegate and access to the hotel is great too with only a short walk from the train station. The guest house has a pleasant seating area around the back too, where you can unwind in the evening. Extra, more unusual features include a hidden chapel and a museum adjoining the Guesthouse which provides the history of the Sister's who own the building.

Booked fairly late due to a change of plans, and was pleasantly surprised on the price for being located fairly centrally in York (just by Micklegate)
Quirky place, but by no means bad.
Breakfast was really good.
Rooms are basic but very clean and have everything you need for a couple of nights stay.

As a working nunnery this was really interesting to visit. A very beautiful Chapel, photos below and also an interesting exhibition about the history of the nuns who have lived there through the wars and much earlier. No bells and whistles here, but if you like history and are interested in particularly the history of Christianity in this country and the massive contribution of some amazing women. This will be for you.
