This should definitely be on your list of things to do if you re visiting Chicago! The building is huge and you could easily spend a whole day here. Great variety of art, something for everyone to appreciate. The Obama Portraits are definitely worth the visit. You may have to wait in line depending on how busy it is. We arrived on a Friday and it was relatively busy but still walkable.

If you bring a backpack they require you to carry it in front (like a baby carrier) or at your side. The cafe is currently closed due to covid.

Well I ve been to this museum about three times and have yet to cover everything. There are ALOT of tourists here everyday that it s open so you really can t hang around and really focus if you re one who likes to actually enjoy and take in all aspects of a piece of art. I will say that a lot of the pieces were so beautiful and a nice reflection of nature and how everything is supposed to flow . Many of the pieces were speaking to me and smiling (we were definitely having a private conversation ). Loved it. Hopefully I come back to enjoy the rest.

Absolutely the best museum over been to. They have an incredible collection of art. Even if you are not an art lover you will recognize many pieces. Huge building so being comfy shoes and plenty of time. While you re here be sure to checkout millennium park.

The Art Institute of Chicago is a must-see if you live or are traveling to Chicago. My friends and I bought the city pass and had access to this museum. I would highly recommend getting the city pass, as it has multiple great attractions throughout the city. Keep in mind, if you are wearing a backpack, it is required to wear it in front.

The cafe was closed during our visit, so I would recommend bringing your own bottle of water.
This was in august 2021.

The Museum is huge!!! I would recommend setting aside 2-3 hours at the minimum to have a pleasant experience. The museum is split up into multiple sections with stairs and elevators throughout.
I would recommend getting a map at the front so you don't get lost!

All in all, this is one of the best museums I've ever been to and would highly recommend you add it to your checklist when you come to Chicago!

One of the best places to spend a Sunday afternoon, or even a Monday morning. You can be strategic in your visit and avoid the gaping crowds on popular pieces. I enjoyed visiting with the old and new works of art on display. Wonderful job as usual, curated by the staff of the Art institute.

A premier art museum of the US, probably second only to the Met in my opinion. This is a must stop see in Chicago. This has been my fourth time at the museum and it felt as if I had seen everything through brand new eyes. The diversity of options for aesthetic taste is phenomenal. I loved their collection of American art from 1860-1950.

Acclaimed art museum and a must-do for tourists and locals alike. Came here with a friend on Friday after lunch and bought tickets at the box office insider. The coat room is currently closed due to covid. You are allowed to carry backpacks and have water bottles; I love that there are water bottle refilling stations by the bathrooms so you can stay hydrated. The cafe was closed when we went (Aug 2021). Entrance is $25 and there are discounts for Chicago residents/students/members. Credit cards are accepted.

The place is huge and I would suggest allowing at least two to three hours to explore all three levels. We were lucky to have caught the presidential portraits before they were gone. There are a number of famous pieces housed in the museum. There are both stairs and elevators for you to go around. Art aficionado or not, you ll have a fun time.

There is so much to see here! We spent about 3 hours at the museum and probably saw half the art. Pricing seemed fair given the quality and quantity of the art. Ticket was good for re-admittance for the whole day. One of my top favorite things to visit in Chicago.

My second time going to the Art Institute, loved it just as I remembered. However I did go on a weekend this time and it was crowded & loud so if you want more of an art museum experience, don t go on a weekend.

The staff were kind and helpful and overall had a wonderful experience again.

The drinking fountains were all open (I know since covid a lot of public drinking fountains are closed), and masks required.
