Texas French Bread is an awesome restaurant that is an Austin original and their cuisine is ver inspired. A family run business, they seek to exceed your expectations and are consistently at the top of their game. My wife and I went recently and were delighted at both the ambiance and the delicious meal we had. Also half-price bottles of wine during happy hour is very nice. I strongly recommend this hidden Austin gem.

I used to live nearby and would stop for a pastry every so often, if they still had any. I finally sat for a meal not too long ago and was impressed with their speed and attentiveness. The space itself is antique and natural and feels very welcoming to anybody, whether casual diner or fancy date. Reasonable amount of parking in the back and great selection of pastries and other goods at the counter. Wine and beer available, too.

There is a lot that is positive about this place. But just once when I'm looking for a good place to get a pastry and a coffee with a cute atmosphere I'd like to not feel like I have to sacrifice something to get it. (Not to compare too strongly cause they are in completely different leagues) Mozart's Coffee on the river has beautiful ambiance and pretty good pastries and the espresso drinks are terrible, so there the sacrifice is the quality of the coffee. Here the sacrifice was the service. When we entered we went to the front counter, there is apparently a hostess and so the four people at the front counter said she would be coming soon. She told us there was a 20 minute wait. We said okay, could we just get something to go? We only wanted pastries and coffee. She quickly responds with "Actually we can't do any of our menu items to go. Sorry" So we clarify "Sorry, we just wanted to get a pastry and coffee is that possible to-go?" she said yes, let us order from the front counter (something that could have been offered ahead of time) and we order. The drip coffee was broken so they were only serving espresso drinks, but all their to go mugs were missing tops so they were only serving open espresso drinks. We noticed a community table that had some people at it but it was never offered so we assumed they were using it for seating so we stood awkwardly in the center of the restaurant, we weren't the only ones, it seemed that other families who were happy to wait for their table (nothing wrong with that) Were waiting by the bathrooms,at first I thought they were waiting for the restroom but the longer we were there the more we realized there just wasn't any place to properly wait in the restaurant.

A nice couple behind us ordered pastries and a coffee as well and the lady behind the counter said they could sit at the community table and eat and drink them there while they wait for a table. So back to the counter I go to ask about that and yeah the community table is open seating.

This sounds petty but for some place so attemptedly upscale there were too many missed moments to offer something that would have made us less intrusive guests. Instead of letting us stand in the middle of the restaurant awkwardly maybe suggest the community table. Instead of telling us that we can't order certain things to go maybe don't instantly assume people came to the restaurant only for the full meals. This would be a normal expectation if you had a hostess stand and not a large coffee shop style counter that looks as if you expect people to order a pastry and coffee.

We walked in confused about where to go, with no direction and stayed confused the whole time. We ended up eating our pastries and drinking our coffee's on the patio that was closed due to rain because it just felt so unwelcoming inside, it would have been one thing if this place had the grittiness of a real french bistro, it doesn't have to cater to your every need but the lack of direction made no sense, every time we tried to adjust our expectations a new curveball was thrown and it was odd.

This place makes lovely butter croissants and I'm thrilled that I get to enjoy them as they are catered to my office sometimes and it feels like that is their niche, they do well with wholesale and catering but they didn't feel prepared to handle people in their actual restaurant. I don't think I'll be venturing back, instead I'll keep looking for a cozy and more organized cafe/bistro in the city, they don't have to be the most polite but their layout/system for dealing with customers during waits or short trips needs to make sense.

I love TFB. Great food, baked goods and coffee. They serve dinner on certain nights of the week as well. I was pretty sad when the location on Red River closed, but the one off Guadalupe remains open. So - yay! The fish sandwitch and soft, ginger cookie both are amazing. Whatever the default salad dressing that they use is (lemony, tangy), it was addictive and my salad quite fresh. This was all picnic-lunch catering, and I think that I need to go for dinner.

Would come here a lot for coffee, espresso was always pretty good, baristas were talented. Would get cute drawings likes swans or turkeys on my coffee. Last couple of times I went In it had noticeably dropped in coffee. I asked around apparently the owner fired the only person who understood the espresso machine. You would think that s something the owner would take the time to learn and teach their staff. Much better options within 3 blocks of coffee is all you want.

Bakery and deli. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They bake all of their bread and sweets in house. The half and half lunch special is just the right amount of food at a decent price. They have a good selection of vegetarian items. The soups are usually non-vegetarian so I like to order a salad and sandwich.

I went there with family on a Saturday for brunch not knowing what to expect, but the banana pancakes I had were really-REALLY good and huge. Even though their menu is a bit limited, we agreed that this place left our bellies beyond satisfied. Great customer service as well!

This bakery is a classic Austin favorite in West Campus near UT. The Texas French Bread has a dining area where students and parents alike love to hang out. Delicious and fresh bread abound. Easy street access and ample parking spaces. Be prepared for a weekend brunch crowd as parking can be a challenge.

A bit on the upscale brunch side of the spectrum, but I love it none the less. Really good coffee and caffeinated drinks to hold up the cafe aspect. Really cute interior design with the service as attentive and friendly professional as you d want your laid back, Austin brunch spot to be. And the bread. My wife and I get our bread here. Always baked perfect!

Service was absolutely terrible. It took 34 minutes for us to get three coffees only to get the wrong coffees!!! The food was just ok when it finally came out after 27 minutes after ordering it. The girls who work here are unprofessional and look dirty. Management should pay attention before this place HAS to close!!!

Had a latte and croissant. Latte was decent, 7/10. Croissant was less so, layers had zero definition, there was no shine from an egg wash, and they seemed sightly under baked, 3/10 for the price. I saw a dough flattener over in the corner that they looked like they weren't using, so I'm hoping it was broken and they're just doing what they can without it. I'd go back if someone wanted to go there for coffee, but I would avoid the croissant for now.

The Grand Marnier French Toast is a must and the lunch special is a real bargain. Parking in the back, top notch food and service. I wish that I had tried it years ago and I'm already planning my next visit.

First, I'll start off with the positives which will be awfully quick. The interior of the place is beautiful. I love the tall windows and the wooden ceilings. It makes the room feel open.

Anyways, my wife and I went there earlier this week. For the prices, the food is absolutely NOT worth it. The only reason I went there was because my wife's birthday was on Monday and we had always passed by the restaurant while riding around that area. It's our favorite thing to do when we have time to ourselves away from the kids.

I ordered the cheeseburger and my wife ordered the beef tartar(I think that's what it was called). The meat on both plates was barely cooked. I asked for my burger to be cooked WELL done. It still had a lot of pink in it. When I asked the young lady who waited our table if she could send it back to the kitchen, she asked if I wanted a cookie or some bread. In my head I was thinking "A cookie?? No I want my burger cooked right" I told her no. We had a staring match until I just went ahead and told her it was fine. That was probably my fault. My wife told me her plate was decent. Not great, but decent. I didn't want to complain because it was my wife's birthday but I just wish her birthday went a lot better than it did. Needless to say, we left without eating dessert.

We had a great evening at TFB! The chilled zucchini soup was new and special. The market salad was generous with such fresh lettuces. The lamb with the sweet potato was really excellent. We love their wine selection. No room for dessert.

Overpriced for what you get. $5.50 for a tiny ham and cheese croissant? This place has gone down hill, way better options for baked goods around town. No longer going to be spending my money here.

The service here is excellent, and the bread is amazing. As soon as I stepped in I was greeted with some fresh bread to try. I told them it was my first time here. It's a very comfy place to relax and have breakfast or lunch. The waiters do care about your service here.

To start off, I love this place. We used to come for breakfast often, because the basic breakfast is another level. From the eggs to the toast, everything was consistently extra delicious. Today s visit tarnished that love.
We (partner and I) haven t been in at least 6 months since we moved across town, but we were craving it and decided to make the drive. We were seated pretty quickly, ordered our drinks and food at the same time. What we ordered: 2 sides of eggs, 1 side of bacon, 1 side of toast, 1 side of potatoes, and 1 croissant (the actual plates are too big for us to finish). She read the order back quickly, then she was off. Our food was taking awhile, we heard our server tell the table next to us that the kitchen was ambushed with orders and offered them pastries. She still hadn t come up to us since our drinks. 35 minutes after we ordered, someone else dropped our food off. We received: 1 side of eggs, 2 sides of toast, and 1 side of bacon. With that many plates missing I assumed the rest would be coming out, so we began eating our sides. Our server never came to check in after the food got dropped off, we finished our sides pretty quickly and were looking around lost and confused. Our server came to grab our plates, I was waiting for her to tell the rest would be out soon, instead she said she d grab the check. I was speechless, I had just then realized she never put in the rest of our order. I seethed in my seat quietly, too annoyed to talk to her and too annoyed to wait for our missing food. We checked out, left, and ended up stopping for tacos.
This isn t the restaurant we knew and loved, probably could ve gone through a drive thru for better service. Call us when the old Texas French Bread is back.

Their burger is truly a unique experience! With sweet tomato jam, arugula, taleggio cheese, and caramelized onions, it's an extraordinary combination of flavors. Will have to admit though, it's not for everyone! My brother wasn't a huge fan.

TFB is a permanent option in our brunch rotation. The tostadas are well put together with the right amount of savory crunch. As a sweet alternative, the challah French toast entree hits the spot with thick pillow like bread that s crisp and sweet on the outside. The house cured bacon is thick cut and unique. All the coffee, espresso, and latte options are served to order.

10 out of 10; will be coming again to try breakfast.

That being said, the 2 $$ symbol rating should probably be closer a to 3 $$$ symbol rating

Great ambiance. I like the style and feel of this restaurant. All the pastries and breads look delicious.

We ordered the French omelette, breakfast tostada, and chicken salad sandwich. French omelette was great (I added tomatoes and spinach to mine). It was cooked perfectly and the potatoes with it were great.

Breakfast tostata: great flavor! Very good mix if you like beans with eggs.

Chicken salad sandwich: also very good! We ordered side of their special sauce which went well with this sandwich! Chips and salsa were a great touch! Very fresh salsa.

Overall, good experience! Next time will try some of the breads and desserts! The salads also looked really good.

Came here last weekend with a some friends on a Saturday morning. We called ahead and got a time for about 45 minutes later. We had drive by this place many times and didn t know that the place occupied as much space as it did.

Even though it was a relatively hot day the patio seating kept relatively cool with all the cover. The place was really nice and had a nice vibe to it. After being seated it was about 10 minutes before we were brought any water which was pretty inconvenient.

After a while we got our order in and from there our food was about another 20-30 minutes. The food was pretty good, but unfortunately portion sizes were pretty small. I enjoyed the meal, but still a bit hungry after with an omelette and French toast split.

While we enjoyed our experience and our waitress was super nice, the service itself wasn t great. We had one refill on waters which we downed right away and we were there over an hour. We also had to ask to receive our check from another server.

Fortunately at the end they brought extra cookies which we got to try, but the weren t all that good, but much appreciated. May give another chance in future, but wasn t impressed on first visit.

I guess it wasn't our lucky day today. I rarely complain, but I was dissapointed. First, we had to remind our waiter about a drink that was forgotten. Second, we had to remind our waiter about an entree that was missing. Third, my hot tea was brought to me in a cup with a lukewarm water with a tea bag that was already retrieved from the packaging. No spoon or saucer to place the tea bag on. I am sorry, but this is not how a tea is served in a hip bistro cafe. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, and the egg was slightly overcooked. Fourth, we sat with the dirty dishes for at least 10 minutes before someone finally noticed and removed them from our table. And the last thing I noticed is that one of the servers had a dirty t-shirt. The only 2 stars I give is for a great coffee and bread.
