Team Rubicon: Mobilizing Veterans to Serve Communities in Times of Crisis
Team Rubicon is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2010 by two U.S. Marines, Jake Wood and William McNulty, who were inspired to continue their service by helping people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises. The organization's mission is to unite the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.
The name "Team Rubicon" comes from the idea that veterans are like the ancient Roman army that crossed the Rubicon River into Italy, committing themselves irrevocably to a cause. In this case, Team Rubicon commits itself to serving communities in times of crisis.
Since its inception, Team Rubicon has grown into a global organization with over 140,000 volunteers who have responded to more than 700 disasters worldwide. The organization's approach is unique because it leverages the skills and experiences of military veterans who are trained in leadership, teamwork, problem-solving under pressure, and adapting quickly to changing situations.
When disaster strikes anywhere in the world – whether it's a hurricane in Puerto Rico or an earthquake in Nepal – Team Rubicon mobilizes its volunteers within hours or days.
