One of my neighbors has an alarm system from this company, and they have a false alarm at least once a week, on average. Other neighbors have systems from other companies, and almost never have false alarms.
The system is solid and works well for us. Setup was relatively easy. The software is a bit clunky compared to other systems we have had. For example, we used SuretyCam at our old building, and the web portal and panel for that system was far superior to the Tattletale system. Where the Tattletale excels for us is the outdoor sensors. The system is good at securing fenced lots, equipment, etc. That is why we switched, and we have been satisfied. It is just more difficult to set up and control notifications, users, and there is significantly less flexibility.
My second Tattletale Portable Alarm System. I've used this genius little box at my elderly father's house when he had to go to hospital or needed extended care away from his home.
After he passed away, I used the Tattletale to protect his house while I was clearing it and preparing for sale. I added interior and exterior motion sensors, door and window sensors, a smoke detector, and a key fob.
I had a bit of trouble with the exterior motion sensor. It kept losing the link to the main unit. I contacted Tattletale tech support. We swapped old sensor for new, and I never had any more trouble. I was impressed with their responsiveness and extraordinary willingness to listen to my needs and respond immediately. Tattletale's tech support group is second to none in any industry.
My father's house is on the fringe of a good cellular signal. The Tattletale communicated reliably even if not on the first try. The iPhone app worked flawlessly. I could arm, disarm, and tell at a glance the status of the system. That's valuable when I was an hour or more away from the site. The desktop web client was even better. I could both monitor and administer the system from a distance. My insurance company accepted the central monitoring service, and I was able to get a discount on homeowner insurance.
When I no longer needed the Tattletale systems, I had multiple offers to buy them from friends who had watched them work. So, not only did I get the protection and coverage I needed while they were deployed, I was able to recover most of my hardware costs when it was time to move on.
We are pondering building a new house on some 40+ acres in a remote area. If we proceed, there will be a Tattletale Commercial system on site during construction and probably after.
I am very disappointed with my tattletale units and the customer service. I currently have 2 alarm systems that I use to protect homes that I buy, sell, and rent. In the beginning I also suggested that tenants, friends, and family members invest in the alarm system but I no longer do so. The problem with these units is that THEY FALSE ALARM OFTEN and as the problem has not been resolved after several conversations with tattletale, it has become apparent to me that it is simply a design flaw. Upon my first few conversations with tattletale customer care they suggested 1, that my false alarms were caused by temperature changes in the rooms being monitored or 2, that the motion sensors have been triggered by flying insects landing on the motion sensor. As of now I have had my alarm units in several homes and in several locations inside of these homes, but the units are still falseing. I also do not have any flying insect issue in these homes so I don t think that is the culprit either. The number of false alarms that have occurred with my units have made myself and my contractors reluctant to use them thus defeating their purpose. I have also found that the city of Columbus bills you for false alarm police visits of which I have many. Save yourself the time, money, and stress by purchasing a different alarm system.
This product is simply the best overall. Don t fall for the internet offers of similar products. The aren t in the same universe. This is a product that is portable. You could hand this down to your grand children. It s built to last.
