The staff checked in my uncle as me and couldn't find the booking for 20 minutes nor did they seem the apologetic about the problem. There were little details amiss all over the place. Our faucets and shower knobs were loose, things looked run down here and there. Overall it just felt tired. The grounds are lovely, but other than that it was pretty underwhelming.

Great place to get away from urban life and relax in a well maintained peaceful estate. Staff very pleasant, plenty of places to walk around or sit and enjoy a book, some wine or just enjoy the views. The food at the restaurants whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner is outstanding and reasonable priced. At night, you can hang at the bar lounge in the lower level of the restaurant and enjoy great cocktails, watch sports on their huge 85in TV, or play pool among other games. The outdoor pool is for adults only, but they have an indoor pool (at the Sports Center, located by the pool) for children. The Sports Center has a full workout gym, not like many hotels that have one or two treadmills and a couple or free weights. There's numerous cardio machines, a stretching area with plenty of cardio equipment (kettle balls, stretch bands, jump ropes punching bag, medicine balls) and a full weight section. In the lower level of the Sports Center is where you will find the indoor pool, jacuzzi, racquetball room, sauna and bathrooms with showers. If your looking to get away to a beautiful place for a few days with your significant other, away from the noise and be at peace, this place is it. And for what it offers, it is reasonable priced.

The grounds of this place are stunningly beautiful, and the staff was friendly, but for $653 total for 2 nights (we stayed in the Rockland building with our dog) the VALUE WAS NOT THERE.

While the grounds were beautiful, the room itself looked very basic, like an old outdated hotel, not luxury hotel (the photos shown on the website and in their e-mails to us show a very fancy room -- this was not what we got). To use the phrase "run down" would be a bit too strong -- but it just wasn't what we expected for the price.

For example: There were warnings all over the place like DO NOT USE THE REFRIGERATOR FOR ANYTHING BUT COOLING BEVERAGES. The TV seemed outdated. The toilet did not flush properly. But they did allow our dog, and the breakfast (which was included) was very solid.

So overall, this wasn't a terrible experience - and this hotel checked off a lot of our boxes (most importantly they allowed our dog, but charged us $50/night extra to have him) but I wish I had done more research and found a different option.

Stayed in King Mansion. Room was spacious and loved the atmosphere. We were treated to strawberries and champagne for our anniversary. Had a relaxing afternoon at the pool. Dinner at cellar 49 was one of the best meals we have ever had. Sitting around fire pit afterwards just relaxing and counting stars. Perfect stay

Please read before booking (I know, its long!)
I believe most of what's creating the high rating for this hotel would be the restaurant ratings and the ratings as a wedding venue (this is a hotel review only) because the hotel is seriously lacking and was VERY disappointing (especially for the price).

If you are looking for 4 walls and a bed, look no further but if you are looking for a nice "get away" hotel ... move on! This was a birthday getaway, and I honestly would have rather stayed home.

Pros:
1. The grounds are beautiful!
2. You really feel like you are out of the city, very quite and out of the way
3. Keurigs in the rooms
4. The beds are so comfy and the sheets are so soft.

That's honestly all the good I have to say about this hotel though.

Cons:
1. Arrived for check-in and had to wait over 40 minutes for our room to be ready (check in is 4pm, we arrived on time)The managers did not care for there customers at all they were more interested If they had gotten paid then for your needs and there patrons being comfortable . The staff seems to be working with no direction which is once again managements fault. They seem to treat there staff in the enethicty instead of the caliber of the there work.
2. You park and have to walk at least 2 buildings away from your car to your room, so remember that when packing - it's a long haul with a lot of baggage.
3. There is not enough parking so you may end up having to park even further away, we had late (7:45) dinner reservations so by the time we got back it was impossible to find any spots, we had to park in the very far parking lot at the bottom of the (pretty steep) hill, mind you there are no sidewalks so you walk on the roadway in the dark.
4. The vending machines either dont work, are sold out or the stuff is expired. Not to mention we had a hard time finding them.
5. The signage is not all correct, when looking for vending the signs sent us on a wild goose chase.
6. The grounds and buildings are tough to navigate, they literally give you a map!
7. The rooms are beyond outdated, and I dont mean it's an older style (I was aware of that when booking) it is literally dingy/old outdated/overused stuff and hardly decorated.
8. The walls are PAPER thin, you can literally hear the people in the next rooms DETAILED conversations (as well as other things ... queue the 6am wake up call thanks to our spunky neighbors )
9. The TV is small and pretty old so not the best picture, no HDMI ports or DVD player
10. The water is hard, you can smell it on the towels and in the shower. A lot of others complained about pressure but I did not find an issue with that.
11. The room service prices are ridiculous, you expect prices to be high ($26 for a chicken sandwich is pretty standars) but there is an additional gratuity charge as well as a $7 room service fee!

I would absolutely never stay here again.

Booked a room in the King Mansion, which is an upgrade. The the description of the rooms on their website and the picture is completely different from the actual experience. A complete bait and switch. Tried to get an explanation from staff and the manager wouldn't even speak to us. One of the staff was trying to argue that the room descriptions and picture was for one room only and does not represent all the rooms; yet all the rooms received all the same surcharge. Extremely disappointing and unacceptable business ethics.

Tarrytown House Hotel is a sprawling showcase of two glorious historic Hudson Valley estates. The sprawling properties are well-preserved and we re creatively blended into a premier destination venue for weddings, corporate retreats, reunions and conferences. A century-old bowling ally was reinvented as Cellar 49, an invitingly warm and cozy restaurant. There are little hideaways on the grounds with moss covered stairways made of locally quarried granite, slate and quartz. Manicured lawns harken back to the lovely gardens of eras long gone. Rooms are spacious and well appointed, with excellent linens and extraordinarily perfect beds. Spotless bathrooms feature deluxe toiletries, hair dryers and large fluffy towels. The A/C is a bit loud, but a welcome inconvenience on hot muggy summer nights. Parking is scarce and poorly lit, with a scarcity of handicapped spaces located in distant hilly areas that are impossible to navigate for those cursed with bad knees. Elevators are few and far between. Physically challenged guests face daunting inclined both coming and going. [photos courtesy Melissa Papke]

The grounds are idyllic and exceptionally well maintained but the rooms themselves were a bit disappointing. The bed and the small pillows were uncomfortable, and the air conditioner was unreliable. There was also a musty smell that really revealed the age of the room. Overall good location, beautiful grounds, but not the most comfortable room.

It has nice looking grounds and friendly staff. Unfortunately the key cards are unreliable. They failed 3 times in 2 days. Also they messed our wake up call up on our final day and couldn't give us access to the room again because the card failed. We spent our last hour sitting in their lobby ay 545 am.

Stayed here whist attending a wedding. For the price I paid I would expect much more hioher standard from each and every department. Correction. .the room and the daily cleaning was good. Room was good.

Initial check on wasnt anything special and the same girl who checked me in didn't give me a wedding welcome bag from.tbe bride and groom that all wedding party should have got at check in.

Breakfast. .at $25 this was very poor. You will get better at Waffle House!! Just stay clear of it! Staff were not friendly ad cold.

Cellar Bar: once again the trend of unfriendly to the point staff continued here....we are supposed to tip. Sorry but I did not.

He really the grounds and hotel were very well maintained.

I tried to book a room online but the site got hung up and the reservation didn t go through. I never got an email about it. I tried calling and no one picked up. Then I read some bad reviews and decided to book elsewhere. Right now I m staying at the other place and at 1:30 am I get a notification telling me my card was billed for the full price of the room even though I never got a confirmation or reminder of any kind and obviously didn t check in. I immediately called the front desk and was told to call back in the morning when the managers are here. Excuse me? I m calling my bank right now to dispute the charges. I got better things to do in the morning.

The place is very clean. It s grounds are beautifully put together. The staff is respectful as well as helpful. Should any issues arise during your stay the staff is readily available to assist. The rooms are comfy and cozy. Might miss a meeting because the beds are so plush. The rooms seem to be sound proof as I heard nothing. Simply a peaceful enjoyable experience

We used it for a three day executive offsite. Location is decent, easily accessible from NYC via car or Metro North/Lyft. Old part of hotel is extremely outdated, broken fixtures and sloppy decor. Some say charm, I say cheap and lazy. Try to stay in the newer buildings.

Conference center is fantastic. Natural light and clean. Conducive to team building. Tavern on site is very good for cocktail hour and buffet restaurant is better than good, but not to everyone s delight.

Pricing was moderate to high, but competitive for the region.

The receptionist checking me in could have been more helpful. All the buildings are connected but there are a lot of stairs between them. Not nice to walk in in heels. The room was clean but the door was difficult to close.

I am FULLY DISAPPOINTED with my stay at Tarrytown ...

I am FULLY DISAPPOINTED with my stay at Tarrytown Estate. However I will start with the good. The FOOD is fantastic. Cellar 49 is a great place to eat the price is easily on par with the quality and to top it off the special is only fraction of the cost up to 9pm. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic for its price. It had everything and the food was cooked well and tasted great. It was a wide selection and enough to have something for everyone.

The grounds are beautiful outside of the modern hotel building lodges. Check-in building was gorgeous.

BADS
Pillows and Bed truly was terrible, my back is hurting me a few days after my stay.

The Outlet blew a fuse and I woke up to an uncharged phone.

Toilet clogged after a small amount of use and nothing big, I can admit to something being my fault but this was not something I did.

Coffee Machine but no Microwave, Refrigerator but no utensils. "Romantic Setting" but no extra glasses for wine.

AC/Heat Unit was antiquated and discolored and the air quality was a bit below par as the room had a musty smell.

The shower had pour pressure and it was fairly confusing (if they had pictures of the bathroom on the website i would have never went).

The bed linens were cheap, sweaty and uncomfortable.

I paid extra for the deluxe room and the staff that told me about it on the phone said that it provided a "View of the Courtyard" - it provided a view of a pine tree in the back facing the Hudson River, not the courtyard.

The wife liked the indoor pool and spa, I personally found it to be a bit antiquated but with that said we got to spend most of the time there without crowds.

ALL IN ALL
If i would do it again I would have booked the Hilton or even splurged for the Ritz to sleep over and had dinner at Cellar 49.

I think the grounds were beautiful but did not justify the rough night on a cheap bed, linens and pillows.

I would have complained and demanded the view or just left.

I cannot recommend the hotel but I would recommend dinner there or even a wedding or daytime event.

This 26 acres of historic importance is today The Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson. It not only provides excellent Conference Center Services since 1964 it continues to host and entertain dignitaries from around the world and it does so in the grand tradition of Mary Duke Biddle.

The oldest mansion (c1840) on the property is the King Mansion. Its illustrious owner was Thomas King, Vice President of the B&O Railroad.

Around 1895 the Biddle Mansion was built using granite mined from the surrounding hills and modeled after a Great Brittain mansion. Mary Lillian Duke, a daughter of the Duke Tobacco family (Duke University) in North Carolina was the wealthiest woman in America. Upon her death in 1960 her children sold the estate, now comprised of both the King and the Biddle estates to the African Nation of Mali.

In 1964 the estate was acquired by Robert Schwartz who envisioned the need for an Executive Conference Center which is now owned and managed by Destination Hotels and Resorts; continuing the long tradition of excellent service.

It is a true weekend getaway filled with history, beautiful gardens, splendid views and great food.

In The Biddle House you will find Cellar 49 with its young Chef serving Americana crafted dishes.

Tarrytown House & Estates provides elegant and traditional accommodations. The grounds are perfectly manicured and exceptional for an evening walk. Cellar 49, their restaurant, is a welcome change from the typical hotel fare. The rooms are very clean and well-appointed. Some rooms struggle to maintain a wifi connection, but this is understandable for the size of this destination. Just a short hop to downtown Irving where you can find shops, restaurants and necessities a plenty. Don't miss the views of the Hudson! This is definitely one to add to your list.

Bring back the indoor jacuzzi!! Why would y all ever remove that from your sports center? Devastating! And also now it s literally just a barren, carpeted empty space serving no function - just as an aside!

Stayed over the course of 4 days.

Stayed over the course of 4 days.
*Reservation: easy online booking, accepts credit cards
*Rooms: On the small side, had a double queen for a family of 3. Beds are way past their bedtime, noisy and cracking. We would wake each other moving in the bed!
Rooms have a safe in it but no mini bar.
It's a very popular hotel for weddings so you get woken up by people coming back to their room late in the night. Management should try to keep the parties together on the same floor...
Showers are clean but only provided 2 bath towels for 3 people. Had to request an additional one every day.
*Breakfast: located on the estate, the building has seen better days. Tired carpet and old chairs. Selection is average but have fresh omelette kiosk for the egg lovers!
*Dinner: Very decent restaurant on the estate. Excellent selection of wine! Steaks are good. On the pricey side but worth it. No kids menu but the waiter proposed a few options which he requested the chef to make. A+ for the restaurant.
*Facilities: Gym and raquetteball court. Well maintained and decent
Indoor swimming pool is good but on day 4 got dirty. I don't think it was cleaned once throughout our stay
Outdoor swimming pool is forbidden for less than 21 so could not check it out
Hot tub was broken
Steam room broken too
*Parking: plenty of space. No complaints there :)
*Estate: great views and very quaint location. Definitely cute
*Staff: friendly but not too willing to go the extra mile
Overall stay was fine. Things were either great or not so great... 3/5

Room next to conference room and was very loud in the morning. Plenty of other rooms which could have been used for our stay. Access to the building was unsecured due to bricks heaving and catching the door. Other door also prevented the main door from latching.

I spent 2 nights here. I will like to believe its the restrictions cos of the pandemic because i was highly disappointed with the Ambience. Having googled and saw how beautiful it was; it felt like a catfish. Besides the Ambience, everything else was Great. Friendly front desk. The restaurant called GooseFeather had a lot of tasty dishes and it was in LARGE PORTIONS. In room-dining was also available from 5pm to 9:30am. Breakfast was unavailable and if you wanter to use the Microwave you gotta go downstairs. The view from my room wasnt the best but anyways it wasnt a bad experience. I rated it 4 cos the Food was the best part of my stay.

Booked a weekend stay in the King Mansion rooms, top floor for the view. To say that these rooms were a let down is an understatement.
Sparsely furnished, (one of the closets didnt even have a pole to hang clothes just one simple shelf)
No usb charging ports, not even an outlet to plug it into.
Bed was hard
Fruitflies in the bathroom drove me mad
Also you should be made aware, the king manor bedrooms are all up two to three flights of stairs. No elevator or handicap access

Lastly, the restaurant is very popular and crowded. At night the parking lots become very full. We got back to the property from a full day in town and had to park on the opposite part of the compound. We had to go to the front desk to get new keys (they stopped working after the first day) we suggested to the desk clerk maybe they wanted to consider saving a few spots for the hotel guests. He said there were spots, even though they were in the lower lots . Yeah, great, thanks bud.

I wont be back. Between the room and the staff just not my cup of tea.

The elevators only take you so fat then you have to take your baggage up a few flights of stairs u
yourselves or they do have people to help you carry them but in the morning during check out no one can find them. Want coffee? They have some at the front desk but it is a kurig and only decaf; want sugar or creamer? Ask the front desk, they may get it for you the may not. I should have been a jerk but that is not my style.
