It's a wonderful place for a family or by yourself. A person can destress, get educated about nature (animals, soil, woodlands, wetlands, prairies) As the spring season begins in April at Taltree, they is so much to learn and relax as you stroll, run or sit thru out the property there. Has greatly opened my eyes.

This is an awesome place to go. First time checking it out and they have some awesome trails and also pet friendly!! Will definitely be back. We did miss the trains for the season but will be back in the spring to see them !!
It's nice. Alot to see. Kids loved the model train display, it was quite large. Nice shaded trails to walk. The pond I seen needs cleaned, compleatly covered in green floating stuff.
What a great find for my family! My 4 1/2 year old loved the trains and the fairy garden. We were fortunate enough to see the blue herons on the trail aptly named that goes around one of the ponds. The trails were well manicured and offer options of many different lengths. The volunteers were very helpful and the paid staff was very nice.
The trains are resting, but the long paths are ready for pooch. No fee to get in now. There are vending machines for kids lucky enough to accompany you to their gardens for all to see.
First time visit. Wanted to see what birds were around. Lovely place and some nice birds. Would like to visit later in summer when everything in full bloom. Note of caution. Healthy crop of ticks present. Each of us (3) found a tick on ourselves. That's just nature but be sure to check yourself and family and dogs for ticks.
Place is a scam. Worst place to have a wedding. Wasnt happy with the wedding coordinator and all the changes they kept making so cancled one year and half in advance..yet they still kept our money and said if they book our date we will get a full refund..but every attempt to see if our date has been booked has been a run around. Once we finally got ahold of someone they said we are still booked for that day. The manager even told us he was going to push others for our date so we would be refunded. YET OUR NAMES ARE STILL BOOKED ON THAT DAY. Do yourself a favor look anywhere but here. Coming from a young couple who are struggling to get by yet a million dollar company thinks its okay to rip us off. Luckly having a family member work at channels 7 news (abc) is investigating and will bring truth from a horrible company.
Beautiful gardens. My kids went crazy for the train garden and the adventure garden. Made for a wonderful Sunday afternoon outing! There's a LOT more there we didn't get to see so it's definitely more than a one-trip attraction.
It was absolutely beautiful. I went on a field trip! Our tour guide, Lea, was great. She pointed out different species and educated us about the land and founders! It was truly amazing!
The point of our trip to Chesterton, IN was to see the Arboretum and its train display. So glad we accidentally learned of Riley's Railhouse for accommodtions or our trip would have been much less enjoyable. The Taltree will be in time a preservationist's pride and joy. The train people were very hospitable and friendly.
The train garden was pretty cool. The detail on the displays was amazing. The kids made sure to read every plaque and carefully took it all in. We found a playground for them to play on for a bit.
Very cool facilities at the arboretum. Nice hikes available, and being the sceenes look at miniatures and train tracks from the downstairs control room.
Super cool place and it's crazy how long and how much detail is put into this. It's a new way to look at history in a fun way. I recommend this place for younger kids I feel like they will love it.
Staff is great. Trains are cool and the kids had fun. Trails are fun to walk on and my daughter loves the fairy houses. We have been here the last two years to see Santa. No wait and the prices are very good. The kids had hot coco and decorated a few ornaments. Thank you.
What a beautiful place! My family and I took our dogs there on Labor Day and just walked along a little grassy trail. When we stopped at the Depot, we found that they offered cute merchandise and snacks, and a bathroom was available. Definitely recommend it for nature lovers!
Awesome! Huge garden O scale layout. Beautifully maintained and landscaped. Our grandkids had a great time watching the trains run. There are some trails and other things to see.
Had a great time with wife and grandson! There is much more than the awesome train exhibit for kids and all. Staff and volunteers do a wonderful job of being friendly and helpful! Keep up the great work!
We have been members of Taltree for years now and are so pleased by its growth and offerings. We hike, cross country ski, view wildlife, do yoga, admire the train set... one of the hidden gems of NWI.
While very beautiful, I would strongly recommend NOT booking the pavilion if you need your cred card or cash deposit back in a reasonable time, and are also concerned about giving out your SSN to anyone other than the IRS or risk ID theft for no legal reason.
I booked the pavilion for a bridal shower via credit card, and they played games dragging out my refund for almost 3 months. I have emails/doc to prove it.
Purdue demanded a w9/my SSN to refund and then played games for months when I refused. Purdue tech school cannot automate a refund or write a manual check for 3 months? It s obviously a penalty for not cooperating with an illegal process.
When I refused, a few weeks later I received a refund check made out to the PARTY HONOREE (whoops! not cashable!) instead of the person they were talking to/charged credit card. After a week of no response and 'having to discuss it again with Purdue', they refused writing a check to me without sending back the original. Glad I didn't shred it or I would never get my refund? That game took 2 more weeks.
Very unprofessional. I'm sorry I had to write this, but I have to stop them from playing more people for fools. Make sure they have their act together before renting.
Trees and gardens are beautiful, small enough to feel comfortable. Slamped lawn is ideal for shows and portable chairs to sit securely, doesn't slope much at all, just enough!
Cute little place. Trails just long enough to keep you busy for a few hours. The train station is more entertaining than I thought it would be as an adult.
Arrived earlier than the train exhibit and walked around a bit. We had to book our visit (we had a 2 hour wait) to see the train, but I think it was unique to today s Covid 19 crisis. Great trails that are well-marked with fun history to read along the way. Several species of trees are marked for identification. The train display was fantastic! We ll likely stop in again if we re in the area.
Perfect hidden get away. Train display is top notch, plenty of room move around, to walk the trails and kids to can enjoy the out doors and a few animals.
The trains are awesome. So much detail and compassion went into the details. The have some play areas for the kids also. Didn't make it around the actual walks, but I'm sure the are well tended and look great. I would recommend to any type of person or family. What a gem
Very neat model railroad garden but yhe rest of the garden didn't amount too much unless you like to walk long distances in fields and woods. Not many real garden setting for as large as it is.
Visited with our grand daughter and enjoyed the miniature outdoor train exhibit. Very well done, educational and realistic. Very pretty grounds with nice walking trails and flower gardens
A very Beautiful place to visit. It makes you feel like a Kid again with All the skillful designed Trains and the History that goes with it! It also has very nice trails to walk for hiking or just to be out in nature and you can also bring your horse they have horse trails! If you have kids bring them it's is worth the price to get in.
If you are wanting to get married there, do not waste your time! They are impossible to get a hold have - I have been trying for the last four months. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because people from the area (who had never had or been to a wedding there) continue to recommend it. I wish I would have read their Facebook reviews. Almost all of the 1 star reviews are from other brides. Seriously, do not waste your time!
