Made a reservation for a farm tour with Molly. She was fantastic! Kids fed the chickens, collected eggs from the hen house, learned about the plants and the greenhouse, explored the windmill, and made a field green smoothie to cool us off after strolling through the flowers. Wish we could have seen the pigs, but perhaps another time.

Apparently, you can not just show up her with a child thinking you can do ANYTHING. After reading the website and reviews on here and TripAdvisor it says it s a great place for kids. Well we were told at the office that it s not open to the public, not a place for kids, they have chickens but that s it. They also were gearing up for a big event tomorrow and that we weren t allowed to really do anything there. After explaining that the website is full of kids walking the grounds and on a tractor and saying it s an educational farm I was told that s for people who pay to take classes to learn how to farm and was also told this is definitely not a place for kids at all. Huge thumbs down. I guess if you aren t planning on going to their farmers market when it s open then stay away from there.

Having some knowledge of this place prior to showing up, was definitely an advantage. The grounds, the manor house, surrounding barns, and walking paths are all kept in beautiful condition, making visits easy and fun for the whole family. Obviously, this year, things are a bit "off", but where isn't that true?! Having said that, I decided to take a long hike around the many walking trails, and mentioned on the Sylvester Manor app. There is a map icon on the upper right corner fo the app, that I, unfortunately, didn't know about until after my hike. Good times.

Wandering the grounds, was a meditative trip back in time. Walking through the gardens, past the privy, just imagining what life must've been like back then...I then looked at the app, and decided I would follow the "Historic Creek Walking Tour".

Setting out from the Manor House, you first cross a land bridge. Lovely, manicured walking paths lay out in front of you, as you first enter some woods. It's here that I had my first disappointment. When I reached a crossroads, there were no markings at all telling me where to go. The signs on the way into the property, when one first arrives at the Manor, are all clear and well placed. Out on the trails? Not so much. Be warned; you will likely have to do some back-tracking here and there. The confusion lies in the fact that some of the old "marked" paths, were not actually created/marked by Manor House staff, but from another organization. I'm told that's being worked on.

In any event, no harm, no foul, I didn't really get "lost". If you have any sense of direction, you'll be able to figure your way back. You're never actually that far from the Manor House. Give it a try, pack a water bottle, and bug spray, and enjoy these grounds, that for so long, were off limits to the public.

It was an indescribable feeling knowing that I was standing on the grounds of a Slave Plantation.
I would like to believe that the slaves were treated in a humane manner since the vibes I felt were of peace and serenity.
This experience will remain with me for a lifetime.
Thanks to our guide for the short history lesson.
Will definitely be visiting again.
