I've been going to Dr. Borton for the last 8 years, and I can't sing her praises enough. I'm always taken on time for my appointments by the most amazing staff I've ever dealt with. I feel very lucky to have found such a caring doctor.
I would never recommend this office to anyone! She was belittling, confrontational, rude, and wouldn t hear my questions. My questions came off to her as though I was doubting her credibility and her treatment advice. I just wanted to understand what was happening to my face and how the meds she recommended we re going to help long term. I was hesitant to take long term systemic meds and she made me feel very low about those questions. I have never been treated like this anywhere I have been. I m quite stunned and saddened by the whole experience.
HEED THESE AND OTHER WARNINGS! The most unprofessional medical environment I have ever encountered. If I could give them a negative star I would. I trusted this "dr" with my child's treatment, something I deeply regret. They mislead us, tried to sell us their expensive products and had us very confused. After months of waiting and completely frustrated watching my child suffer, I called their office and was told they no longer wanted my daughter as a patient. This is something they apparently do regularly when questioned. We ended up at another Boise dermatologist who quickly cleared up all of our confusion, got my daughters medication figured out all with great customer service.
I felt the need to share my experience with Dr Borton and her practice after reading some of these posts. I worked for Dr Borton at Sun Valley Skin Center for nearly 18 month before leaving to go to PA school and I cannot say enough about her or how I feel about this practice. Dr Borton trained at one of the nations best medical schools and residencies. She has decades of experience dealing with patients one on one. Frankly we are lucky to have a provider of her caliber in Idaho. I was always amazed by her vast knowledge of medicine in general but especially Dermatology. Her practical skills whether it be filler treatments, Dysport, laser treatments, or surgical pathology removal are second to none. Patients have always been impressed by their results or how painless their procedures are when compared to other providers. In my experience she shows nothing but love, compassion, respect, and integrity when dealing with patients. She cares for not only her patient's skin but also about them individually. Countless times I watched her comfort her patients by giving them a hug, sending them a card, personally calling them, or taking them flowers in the hospital. This practice feels like your seeing family when you walk in and you actually talk to a person when you call. Sun Valley Skin Center always runs on time for their appointments and makes sure that you feel valued. What other office in Idaho allows you 10, 20, or 30 min appointments of face to face time with a physician, NONE! I would recommend Dr Borton to anyone seeking a high end Dermatology experience.
To say just a small comment on the other reviews offered on this page. Having been with Dr Borton in nearly every patient visit for 18 months I never saw her raise her voice, speak down to patients, or be anything less then professional. Rather I have seen patients who were not compliant with recommended treatment plans get frustrated with the lack of results. I did see patients get upset at her as a provider but lack the self motivation to do the steps Dr Borton would walk them through. I would not let a few negative reviews by obviously frustrated individuals keep you from one the top providers in the country. I strongly encourage you to see for yourself the quality of care offered by this practice.
Patients beware!! I ve never been treated so poorly. You are supposed to be a professional provider. When I walked out of the room she was standing up front talking about me to the staff with other patients in the room. Pretty sure this was not only unprofessional and unethical but also a possible HIPPA violation. Will never return.
Abrasive, Unprofessional and Nasty.
After being a patient for more than 15 years I left with such a hurtful experience. After having to cancel a makeup consultation and rescheduling a follow-up appointment, I was bulldozed by the staff and Dr. Borton upon my next appointment. The lack of empathy, tone of voice and utter nastiness I endured when I came in for what I thought was a normal appointment left me scarred for life. I can take responsibility for moving my appointments around but after 15 years, you'd think they'd know you and understand that was a rarity in character.
I would not recommend this office to anyone who is looking for a caring, empathetic, professional experience. Their communication style is rapid, gruff and very abrasive. I was taken aside, yelled at, told I expected a miracle and I didn't "want my eczema healed", and left the office sobbing with absolutely no remorse from the doctor or staff.
Overall, it comes down to basic human being character traits; that office has no sense of authenticity, humanity or kindness.
I feel it is important to write a review about Dr. Borton and her practice, Sun Valley Skin Center, as I do not understand or believe the merit of the negative reviews. I personally worked for Dr. Borton as one of her medical assistants for over a year prior to attending nursing school. I feel very grateful for the level of preparedness in medicine that I gained while working at this practice. It s challenging for me to summarize exactly how I feel about Dr. Borton and my experience at her practice because it was truly exceptional, and I do not believe enough words suffice.
My respect and admiration for Dr. Borton developed instantly as I witnessed her elite level of expertise regarding dermatology and medicine, as well as her profound concern to provide the highest standard of patient care possible. Dr. Borton is a board-certified dermatologist who received her education from one of the most renown and top medical institutions in the nation. Her training and expertise are unsurmountable, and Boise, Idaho is extremely lucky to have a professional with such high credentials and education in its proximity. Dr. Borton is CONSTANTLY expanding and refining her knowledge to align with the most current, evidence-based practices. Her devotion to her career and patients is unyielding and something that I have seldomly witnessed throughout my medical experience prior to working at her practice. The level of care that Dr. Borton and her staff provide to patients on a daily basis is unmatched. I have personally witnessed, on many occasions, Dr. Borton contacting other professionals within the medical community to coordinate a patient s care or to simply discuss a patient s case. Dr. Borton will spend copious amounts of time and utilize various resources to help her patients, often outside of normal working hours.
Dr. Borton has shown me nothing but compassion, love, honesty, and respect. Dr. Borton would NEVER recommend anything for a patient unless she wholly believed it would help them. You will not receive such a thorough exam or face-to-face patient-provider time as you will at this practice. Dr. Borton has helped SO many patients who came to her feeling so helpless, under-valued, and ignored with untreated medical conditions. I have seen patients lives completely altered in such a positive way after being treated by Dr. Borton, which is something truly heart-warming and touching to spectate. I strive to uphold such viable, trusting relationships in my career as Dr. Borton does with her patients. I feel so grateful to have worked for such a high caliber provider and practice. I recommended Dr. Borton and her practice to anyone!

Dr. Borton might be ok for cosmetic procedures, but if you have a serious skin disease and/or skin cancer, I highly recommend you go elsewhere. I agree with those who have said that she's more interested in selling her products than treating her patients. I received good treatment and advice at first, and her staff is truly delightful. But when there wasn't a fast resolution to my problems, she became frustrated and told me that my skin disease (genetic) and skin cancer were all my fault anyway and the result of 20 years of abuse and neglect. Since none of that is true, I assume that dealing with facts or truth isn't her stock in trade. I wonder if the quality of your treatment is based on your insurance or perceived wealth? She's probably successful at her little beauty parlor business, but if you need medical attention, please go elsewhere. Doctors who send their patients home in tears are unprofessional.
The best in the Valley have had nothing but a Wonderful experience with Dr. Borton and her staff. They are all friendly and have taken great care of me. Dr. Borton is really professional, nice and knows her stuff. The staff is great, Dan is the man, and Alex at the front desk is awesome. They take the time to listen and answer all questions I have had. I think they are the best around and have told all my family and friends about them.
Dr. Burton and her team are amazing. I had a friend refer me and I was excited to go as I have been searching for a good dermatologist. After reading some of the reviews, I was hesitant. I kept an open mind and kept my appointment. Honestly, I don t understand the negative reviews. Dr. Burton s team members were kind, welcoming and amazingly efficient. Dr. Burton was thorough, honest, kind and explained everything in layman s terms. A great experience in every way!

I must say that quite frankly I cannot relate at all to the few negative reviews as I have been going to Dr. Borton for the past few years and find her the most knowledgeable and helpful dermatologist I have ever been to....and at my age (66) and with the skin issues I have had, I have seen many. Today I had another procedure and as usual am very pleased with the procedure, the recommendations, the Dr. and the staff. Dr. B knows her stuff. I have had several procedures and they produced exactly the results she promised. Perhaps those who did not like her did not follow her advice, who knows. She is forthright and honest and I give her the utmost respect. Her office staff has always been as professional and compassionate as you would expect in an office of the caliber of Dr. Borton. I recommend her without hesitation and have sent many friends and family to her. The only caveat, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, she has vast experience and you should take advantage of that.
Amazing staff! Dr. Borton is extremely professional and just an amazing woman. She keeps treatments simple and real. I m extremely happy with my services at Sun Valley Skin Care and look forward to continuing my great skin care experiences with the them.
Dr. Borton is the most kindest, caring, loving beauty woman who loves her patience and will help their skin look beautiful! I have been to a couple different dermatologist, but have not found one that has truly cared about me and who wanted to make me better until I went to Dr. Borton. Dr. Borton and her staff are wonderful! I have been going to her for many, many years. My early visits were to keep tabs on some suspicious moles, she never pushed me to do any kind of cosmetic work. Years later I consulted with her about some more proactive things I could do in regards to anti aging, she listened to my needs and gave me excellent advice. Again, she never pushed products unless I ask. The procedures and products I have received from her and her staff have been so awesome! I highly recommend her! Alyssa and Alex are wonderful upaup front and I never have to wait for my appointment! I LOVE Sun Valley Skin Care!
I've been seeing Dr. Borton for many years. I was shocked at the negative comments. I've had nothing but a great experience with her and her staff. Fantastic folks and she's always on time--my favorite part.
I wish I had read these reviews prior to signing on as a patient of Dr. Borton's. She was extremely rude and confrontational. Even when I took responsibility for delaying a procedure that she recommended, she would not stop berating me as I sat there naked and utterly stunned in her exam room. Maybe she is much nicer to her cosmetic patients than she is to those who need medical treatments.
ATTENTION: Stay away from this awful clinic don t waste your time & money in this clinic. The doctor old lady unprofessional with her team & she hungry for money she don t care about people problems she need to sell pills to you & creams for the acne s. And I m sure the all good reviews and 5 stars from her team
I just came out of a consult for a really, really ugly thing on my nose. Dr. Borton prescribed something for me to take two times a day and as usual, it was the correct call and the ugly thing, while still there, is reduced and on the mend. The other cool thing is I arrived 20 minutes early and was reading a magazine and was brought in to be seen 10 minutes early! I like going there because everybody in that office smiles and says "Hello" and asks how I've been. In fairness, I'm an older, gregarious guy, so maybe that's why. All I know is I had a problem, I needed it fixed and she fixed it. Nothing else matters to me.
I wish I had checked yelp before going to Dr. Borton! She is arrogant, confrontational and has terrible patient-doctor service.
I am also new to Boise and was looking for a dermatologist to help me with skin irritation (allergies) around my eyes. I appreciated Dr. Borton's straight-forward attitude and no-nonsense approach so much after my first visit that I actually recommended her to a friend of mine (I took back the recommendation!). During my first visit I also expressed concern over general skin care, but she said we would have to wait for my eyes to clear up before addressing other questions. In the meantime she gave me samples of her product to try.
My skin cleared up over the next month. I waited an additional month just to be sure the steroids I had been taking for the reaction were completely out of my system, as recommended by Dr. Borton. So, after all was clear, I returned for a second appointment with questions about general skin care and product.
Dr. Borton somehow misunderstood my request for a second appointment, thinking I was upset or unhappy with her general recommendations for skin product from the first appointment. She laid into me telling me that 'she was frustrated with me'. I stopped her and said I'm sorry if she misunderstood -- I just had questions about skin care - and that she told me to come back in when my skin allergies cleared up. She snapped back that she gave me recommendations and samples last time. I told her I liked a couple but was curious as to the differences and which was best given that I couldn't afford all of the product (it is very expensive!). She answered the question but with a nasty and irritable tone. I then asked for a sunscreen recommendation because the sunscreen they sell in their office is $80 a bottle (!!). She refused to recommend a cheaper option, saying she could only recommend her product. At that point I decided she was more concerned with selling her expensive product than patient care (she hadn't actually examined me this time -- she just came in, sat down across the room from me and started telling me off). In the end I didn't buy anything from her.
A couple days later I received a letter in the mail saying she was no longer able and willing to provide service... as if I'd go back after that! I am not interested in Dr. Borton's product nor her pride.
I recommend that you DO NOT go to this doctor.
My 11 year old daughter and my experiences were surprisingly terrible. My daughter had some warts we wanted burned off. We clearly communicated as such. The doctor explained that my daughter would be the perfect guinea pig for a new experimental technique using candida. She wanted the data for her research. It would take several visits including a test and then several applications. I stated I would research the technique and maybe use it if the burning wasn't successful.
The doctor left us in the room with the tech to review the procedure. She also tried to convince us to use the candida technique. We are open to new ideas but would need to find out more about it before committing to several visits and once again stated our preference was burning the warts.
The doctor returned as a totally different person. She used a raised voice and stood in an intimidating manner over my daughter who, over the next five minutes, shrunk four inches due to the doctor's poor patient bedside manner. She insisted the candida method was much better and then asked me to decide once again despite the fact we had made our preferred procedure clear several times. Then she said she didn't have any more time for us and refused service.
Frankly, I was relieved as I wouldn't want her to burn anything off of my child with the lack of control and the anger she displayed.
As we were on our way out the door, the secretary asked me to pay $35 co-pay. I explained that the doctor refused service, wasted my time, and I will not pay for the service. Not only did I not want the doctor to have my $35, but I also didn't want her to collect any insurance money for the experience. I asked for a written statement that the doctor refused service for my records. They refused to write exactly what the doctor just clearly stated.
I finally did leave. I called the next day. They said they had checked with the insurance and they will pay for it and I will be billed for the co-pay. I made it clear I would dispute the claim. I called the insurance, they said no claim had been made. I never did receive a bill from the clinic.
There are many similar reviews on Yelp where the doctor refuses service sometimes to long term patience and put of the blue. Save your time and money and go to a different dermatologist and definitely do not bring your child to this doctor.
The nicest and gentlest Doctor I know. So patient and kind with all my children. She just has the right touch very knowledgeable.
I've been going to Sun Valley Skin forCenter for over 10 years. The office staff is always very helpful. Dr. Borton is extremely professional and excellent at taking care of my dermatology needs. Everything from extremely dry skin to random bumps. She was excellent with helping my son get through adolescent acne with minimal breakouts. I like that she is very direct and interested in the outcome. She takes time to listen to my concerns.
Dr. Borton is delightful. She diagnosed an issue in a week after we saw dozens of doctors who had no idea what it was. We are very lucky to have such a knowledgeable and well-trained professional in the treasure valley. She says it how it is and she genuinely cares about her patients.
