Set in the north Cascade Mountains above the Methow River Valley and the old-western town of Winthrop, this resort offers hikes, horseback riding, spa treatments, wonderful restaurants with numerous gluten-free options, an amazing wine list, and more. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean and well-tended by the house keeping staff. It's not a cheap stay, at about US$325/night during a July weekend when I visited. Visitors should note the kitchens, including the one that serves the on-site pub, close at 9 pm. Oddly, other rooms had televisions, mine and those of other guests I knew there did not. Additionally, there was a MP3 compatible stereo, but only if those MP3s were burned onto a CD. As with many other hotels built more than 10 years ago, we found electrical outlets to charge our numerous devices were hidden behind furniture and mostly already used, so things like the aforementioned stereo and the radio alarm clock had to be unplugged. I was only there for a wedding so the chances of me retuning in the future are low, but if I needed to be in that part of the world again for some reason I would considet staying there again.

It s worth the drive to stay at such a relaxing place. Smoky at the beginning of our stay but the hotel
offered a discount for all due to the lack of amenities and limited valley views. Woke up each morning to mule deer and turkeys. Hiked in the morning, rode bikes in the afternoon. Really enjoyed the breakfast specials. Left under blue skies feeing recharged and refreshed. No complaints.

It was good all around, the food, view, lobby, rooms, bathrooms, location is away which is great. Plus there is horseback riding that is great experience. The biggest con is that there are no TVs In the rooms and the wifi isnt the best, but I guess the view and wilderness substitutes for the no tv. The best hotel definitely in Winthrop.

First of all I was doing covid-19 their pool was closed. We got to the room there was no television ,I paid almost $400 for the evening .their restaurant had only 6 or 7 entrees. At 35.or more. We decided we go into town and get a bite instead. We looked to come back and reheater food at midnight there was no microwave either.

To sum it up high-priced overrated very expensive will not return. 2 stars is pushing it for this. It was pretty and it was clean yet was way overpriced for what we got

Surprised & disappointed no TV in guest rooms. Food mediocure & spendy. No lights were in the area of the outdoor swimming pool or hottub in the evening darkness....dangerous. Just overall disappointing for such a popular & expensive place.
On a positive note, the view from the lodge is beautiful...and from the restaurant, also.

Beautiful lodge and surroundings! I only give it 4 stars because the price is way too high for what you get! The Room we stayed in needs updating. There wasn't even a fridge or TV in the room. The rest was wonderful!

Can't say enough good things about Sun Mountain. The scenery is breathtaking from all angles. I want nothing more whenever I'm away but to sit on the deck at the bar and listen to the wind blow through the valley as I blow through a few martinis.

The food is amazing as well. When it's in season the dining room always delivers on their high-end menu. The Wolf Creek Bar & Grill has everything you need to survive the day or evening without the need to drive into Winthrop.

Make sure to take advantage of the hiking around the area if you have the chance. The wildlife is bustling in any season and will provide all sorts of Nat-Geo photographic moments.

In short, you better just come check it out and see for yourself.

I didn't stay at the lodge but there's a lot to do here even in the winter they've actually got a legitimate sleigh ride up to the top of the hill. When you get to the top they'll provide you with hot cocoa and they're totally cool with you bringing your own drinks on the ride. It's a lot of fun with family, friends or both. I would recommend checking this place out it's beautiful!

Waking up to the view of snow covered mountains was such a fantastic experience. Our room was modern and beautiful; we loved the fireplace and the jacuzzi tub that had shutters that opened into the room. We spent a lot of time hanging out in our room and enjoying the view; I would love to come in summer or fall so we could explore the area around the lodge more!

Absolutely gorgeous property with great views and amenities. Well maintained mountain bike and walking trails everywhere, horse back riding, swimming and boating in the lake. A little bit of everything for the family. Restaurant left a little to be desired but I think that's due to covid restrictions (which they've handled well with required masks in the main areas and to go food options).

It's an ideal resort for those who want to get a way from it all. There is WiFi, no TV and inroom phone.
The restaurant is excellent with with a very professional wait staff, a wine manager and a superb chef Tyler krost .
The Wine manager gave my wife and I a tour of the wine cellar, it was lovely and she was very engaging.

The staff at Sun Mountain Lodge is wonderful. Being only a couple hours from Seattle makes this an unbeatable destination for a romantic weekend. The rooms are elegant and the main lodge is a beautiful mix of rustic and modern log architecture. The setting is perfect for relaxing views of the Methow Valley below. The town of Winthrop is only minutes away even though you won't want to leave once you get here.
I highly recommend getting a reservation for the Dining Room during your visit. Chef Pete McKenny prepares some truly exquisite dishes that melt in your mouth. My wife and I just experienced the "Diamonds and Pearls" dinner featuring the Tuscan wines of Antinori. I cannot wait to come back for another Diamonds and Pearls event.
The gift shop opens at 8:30am and the lovely lady in there makes a delicious iced espresso. She is very sweet and you can tell she loves working there and meeting all the different people that visit.
Take advantage of the vast trail system right from the lodge. You get unbeatable views during easy hikes.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very nice. We loved the piped in classical music and the jetted tub. The lack of TVs made it all the better. The setting was beautiful even though it was smokey from wildfires. The service was superb as was the dining room.

We had a great first experience at the Lodge. The Robinson rooms are beautiful. Only wish we had stayed a little longer. My mother-in-law gave us a gift certificate which we presented at check in. All our incidentals: dining, horse excursions were charged to our room and deducted accordingly. On our first night, the group below us came in at 10 pm and proceeded to party until 1 am. We went to the front desk the next morning and Leanna took care of us immediately with no hassle. Had our luggage moved for us while we went on a horse back ride. ( we were upgraded to a beautiful suite at no charge). Breakfast was included in our package. The view is stunning in the dining area. The good was delicious and service was great. Although we didn't pay for the meals, the prices seemed reasonable to us. Reluctantly' we went on a 1-1/2 hr horse ride. I'm so glad we did. Was very relaxing and the volunteers that guide you were very informative.

It's been years since I've been back and I go for the bar - though I have both stayed and dined on multiple occasions.

As many have said herein, the views are exceptional and the grounds are pretty. The rooms are fairly ordinary and the dining is hit and miss. Sometimes it's pretty good and sometimes the "Denny's" comment someone else made is legit.

I think it could be great, but great would require a lot more traffic than it actually gets to fund that greatness.

The biggest problem and block to SML getting the traffic that would make it world class is simply getting there.. If you're not from Washington, your choices are Seattle, Spokane or Wenatchee airports and then a 2.5 to 4.5 hour drive. You really have to want to go there to get there and if it's not already world class, why would you?

If SML put serious effort in getting something like Kenmore Air in Seattle to make regular flights to Twisp Municipal Airport (1/2 hour from SML), it might become more than it is.. short of that though, I don't know how this place ever gets the traffic to generate the revenue to achieve all that it could be..

I went to use the Tesla charger where I was told I was not allowed my dog since it is a no dog policy. If that is the case they either need to be knowing that open to the public spaces, which the Tesla charger is, will bring dogs, kids, etc , or they need to only have it for guests only, or on the Tesla website they need to mention that no dogs are allowed. Basically at the end of the day I just am mad that it was a surprise and they got angry at me for for not following a rule that I didn t even know was a rule to begin with. I am on a road trip so I can t just disappear my dogs willy-nilly

WOW! This place is incredible! The ambiance is unbelievable. The lodge is amazing everywhere you look.
The gift shop is GREAT!! Lots of new and edgy stuff that's actually affordable.
Our room was PERFECT. Soft "spa"music playing. Perfect, just perfect. View out bedroom window below.
If you have breakfast in the dining room, and you like Eggs Benedict, get the Spinach & Tomato Benedict. There are a zillion flavors stacked on top of each other that burst in your mouth individually in each bite. Can't understand how the chef does it. Magic...
Oh! There are deer! Saw 6 from our patio.

Luxury hotel with deep connections to the Methow Valley summer and winter trail systems. The Nordic ski school is excellent. I usually go there just for the skiing but have eaten in the bar and restaurant on occasion and stayed in the hotel and at Patterson Lake cabins a couple times. Food, wine, and accommodations have always met or exceeded my expectations.

I don't know where to start!! We were here for a wedding and I cannot think of anything they could have done to make it better! The only word we heard was "yes" to whatever we needed!! From the front desk, to the wedding planner, banquet staff and concierge, everything was perfect!! The staff in the bar and restaurant was wonderful, even when we kept adding people and changing tables. They even remembered what we drank previously!!

On the rooms, they are beautiful, but there are only four rooms that have TVs, so keep this in mind if you have kids and need the electronic babysitter or have a sports/news fanatic. Also, there are very few plugs in the rooms and internet access and phone use are very spotty. If you need a refrigerator in your room, ask for one.

If you want to relax, this is a great place with beautiful hiking trails, a pool, game room, lake close by, with cabins. AND, A FABULOUS PLACE FOR A WEDDING!!! Thank you all for making everything perfect!!!

Exceptional food and great service. The cherry/apricot sorbet is intensely flavorful and is a surprisingly satisfying pairing of flavors. The staff accommodated my dairy allergy with grace and professionalism. The rooms in the Gardner building are cozy, comfy and sublimely peaceful. This is the perfect place for a restful weekend or a romantic getaway.

The lodge and the rooms are all beautiful. So very comfortable and homey. The view is also amazing. You can see mountains that seem to go on forever. The service is top notch as well. All employees are friendly and quick to respond to any needs. There is a large game room that has two pool tables, a foosball table and a ping pong table, all free of charge. There's a library with several books for you to read, and two restaurants. The hot tub is very large and open year round. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing and romantic place to get away, this is it. You can just sit and relax or you can go cross country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking, or participate in a number of other activities. There is also a fitness center and a spa on-site. This is a five star resort, you will not be disappointed!
