I ve eaten hibachi all over this country as well as in Mexico. Pretty much if you ve seen one show you ve seen them all. Food generally pretty comparable. Let me tell you, this place is the exception! For starters, the young lady who served us was on the ball. Drinks never ran dry and she was constantly checking to see if we needed anything. Then came our chef, Tommy! This dude is stinkin hilarious on top of being a crazy good chef! He really was entertaining and the food was phenomenal! I can t wait to come back to San Antonio. We will definitely be eating here and hope to get Tommy again!

Absolutely love to come here with my husband. The foods delicious. I've had the scallops and filet mignon both were unbelievably yummy! We visited last for our anniversary and it was very memorable. We had the table to ourselves because it was slow. Our rice was shaped in hearts and he made us a romantic candle with an onion tower. Plus they surprised us with fried icecream and we ate it even though we were stuffed it was so good. I enjoy coming here more than any other spot in San Antonio. I don't mind sharing the table it is always fun.

I highly recommend Sumo Japanese Steakhouse, the sushi is top quality but priced like HEB. They have a fully stocked bar so if that's your preference you can always get a good drink there plus they have multiple TVs to catch your favorite sporting event. Now as for the Hibachi Grill the chefs are top-notch the food always tastes good and if you don't think it's right they will fix it! But you always have to remember that this place gets extremely busy on weekends which can slow down service and if you don't have a reservation you can wait an hour or more for a Table.

We stopped in one evening for dinner, and were disappointed in the overall experience from this establishment. The waiter Brandon is dishonest, and lazy. He forgot to turn on the grill and caused an extra 20-30 minutes to be added to our dinner in which they charge extra for things like fried rice, or removing vegetables. Additionally he STOLE extra $10.00 on the bill after they already IMPOSE A MANDATORY GRATUITY of 18%. David the manager seems to careless about the fact that his staff is stealing from customers regardless of the amount, and will "talk" to Brandon about it. I would recommend you look over your receipts carefully and check your account a few days after visiting. We go to our local Hibachi/Sushi place regularly and the experience is completely different with no theft, mandatory gratuities, and extra charges. David you handled this situation poorly and you should be reprimanded for this transaction and Brandon should be let go.

Unfortunately not impressed at all and wont be going back. We had a party of 10 and they insisted on squeezing us and a poor couple who didn't even know us around one table. The 10 people would have been comfortable, the 12 of us, not so much. We waited 2 hours for our dinner (and the show of cooking) it to start, after we had been seated! The food was so-so and the show was meh (see shoulder shrug of indifference). For the price you pay you would hope for a little more. Hu hot is just down the road and you get to make your own dish, enjoy the cooking "show" and not be at a table with complete strangers. I still feel bad for that couple and they were so sweet.

The worst customer service I ve seen in a restaurant. I booked a reservation for 8:45 pm and got there at exactly 8:45. We waited about an hour and a half to finally be seated. Once we were seated, we waited an additional 45 minutes, at this point we decided to just leave because of the horrible understaffed restaurant that is by the way WAY over priced. You all get a more pleasant, quicker dining experience at any other restaurant. Save your money and your time!

It was my wife s and I first time at a place like this. We sat with one other couple and a man from out of town. The other patrons were very friendly and fun to be around from the get go. Our Chef D was awesome. He was friendly, funny, serious, informative, engaging, and surprisingly unscripted. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff was very friendly and courteous as well. Overall it was a great experience. Even with the other people at our table it was still cozy and comfortable for us (we both suffer from anxiety and crowds can be hard). Top it off they have an honest staff as my wallet fell out of my pocket, but was held there until I picked it up with all its contents (cash included) still inside. I say it s a great date night dinner place as long as you and yours are open to sharing a table. It s definitely a fun place to have great food.

DO NOT EAT HERE. MISTY, the manager, THE MANAGER!! Has horrible customer service. We had a reservation at 7:15pm. We were not allowed to be seated until a separate reservation, of individuals that we don't know, were present. So we didn't have the opportunity to even start ordering our appetizers or drinks and had to stand and wait around until the other party arrived, who were late!! How is that our fault? Wow. In the past 5 years that I've been coming here.. I have never EVER been treated the way we were tonight. Just wow. Do not waste your money. Sumo just lost my loyalty and my money. Thanks Misty!

Food was great, but the price was double what some others are. Shouldn't have to pay extra for fried rice when most people that eats hibachi wants fried rice. Also should be able to substitute extra rice for vegetables. What costs you more? It's definitely not rice.

We love to come here, great choices for food, not so great mixed drinks from the bar taste like they are supposed to be mocktails. At $10+ they need to taste like something with alcohol. Waitress doesn't come by the tables as often as needed for refills. Overall, a great date night restaurant and experience.

Gotta love this place but does depends on who treats you and if you are a fun party. For one, we waited 30 minutes to be seated but it was because we were early and then we got one heck of a chef... Tommy!!! I recommend this chef because he is different each time and makes the experience wonderful each time he serves. You want to laugh this guy has it and the service was there so I would recommend you ask when Tommy works so you can experiencr him and have good laughs and some good food!!!

Food was ok not like other Japanese places I have had. Service started out great but soon dropped off fast. If you have a small child that shears food be where they will charge you $8.00 for them my 2 year old bearly eats and we eneded paying for her. We sat all night without drinks all of us and then for the 4 of us after are bill for 3 meals was 110.00 she slapped a 18.00 gratuity charge on it so need less to say it sucked

We had reservations, but were forced to wait an hour to be seated. The cook was new and wasn't entertaining at all. We ended up watching the cooks at the other tables. The food was ok, but not great. They use too much lemon and the shrimp was dry. The worst was when we tried to present our Groupon. They wouldn't accept it!!! The manager came out and said that he won't make any money and wouldn't take it. He said he'd buy us a beer, but wouldn't accept the Groupon. Both the manager and his little assistant need to be in another business. They definitely don't belong in the food industry. They were rude, argued with us, yelled AT us and refused our Groupon. Won't ever go there again.

The chef was inexperienced and poor. The server was terrible. She spilled beer on my foot. She didn't bring dessert after she agreed to bring a birthday dessert. They also automatically add 18% gratuity for parties of 4 or more. This just annoys me because the service was no where near worth 18%. I will tip for good service and this was terrible. My chicken was also undercooked.

Waiting time was 45mins. Show was great, he kept the whole party entertained, he offered us extra rice and shrimps.
Food was just ok; very expensive for the kind of food. (Plate of noodles $18)
Visit just for the experience and show, not for the food.

This was the first time ever going to a hibachi restaurant and I wasn't disappointed. Tommy was referred to us by a friend and he was very entertaining and the food was delicious. If you are making a trip, please request Tommy, you will not be disappointed. I had the rodeo, which was a steak and chicken diner with the fried rice. Absolutely delicious, and the strawberry lemonade was terrific.

This restaurant is the best, they were on top of their game, Robert was our waiter, hes funny and fun and constantly fills drinks!! Our cook was very nice and he put on a good show, we all ordered different foods from shrimp, two steaks, to chicken, lobster! As soon as you sit down they get your food order, then you get mushroom soup, and or salad with ginger which is delicious! Any of the orders or food that you get comes with fried rice oh, and vegetables I always get extra butter and they make me a teriyaki sauce with sriracha sauce for dipping! This is all hibachi style , great for parties, celebrations or anniversaries!! The whole staff is friendly, attentive!

The service at the sushi and bar is excellent. I would say the price is on par with any where else, but the food is top notch. For those who like fried sushi, I highly recommend their bedrock roll. Best sushi I ever tasted!

Very good food. Lots of sauces and butter, so not very healthy. You come here for the food, the fun, and the friends. Service was good. Sushi was good as well. Try and save room for dessert. The tempura fried ice cream was awesome!

WORST MOTHER'S DAY EVER..............

WORST MOTHER'S DAY EVER..............
We went there for dinner and the show but just ended up with dinner and a very boring chef making food. First we waited over an hour to be seated, kept getting passed on but hey it was a holiday and the weekend. Second got put in the very back of the restaurant and the waiter kept forgetting about us. Then when the chef finally made it to our table he was not entertaining at all, he talked to the table of people for a total of one question, me and the others at our table even tried to ask him questions and lighten things up but he would give a simple answer then be quit. He didn't really do any tricks or try to engage with any of us, he just made the food and left. It sucked watching everyone at other tables laughing and having a wonderful time. It was just awkward sitting there waiting for the food to be done. On top of everything else the food was just ok, too much pepper. Overall for the amount of money we spent it was NOT WORTH it at all.

The wait time while waiting on the chef was excessive but once he got started I forgot about the wait. The show was humorous and very entertaining. The food... wow, out of this world. It truly is the best hibachi I've ever had. Everthing was delicious and tasty. Atmosphere was loud but it adds to the entertainment. Must definitely visit again next time we're in San Antonio.
