Interesting church, friendly staff and everyone even the dog is welcome!
Missing the old pews (sawn up for firewood). No where to nod off now during evensong!.
Enjoyed climbing the tower. Not for the faint of heart!
Beautiful church, very large and ornate. I have seen less impressive cathedrals.
Lovely historical church, hidden behind the main shopping street, accessed through an ancient pathway...
St Laurence was matryrd on a metal grill. It's great fun looking out for depictions of St Laurence accompanied by a grill at locations all round the church.
Fantastic views of Ludlow town and surrounding area from the tower
Impressive building, brochures in circulation languages ...
It's a beautiful place to visit and the views from the tower are wonderful.
Regardless of your religious beliefs, this church must surely be one of the most beautiful buildings in the area. Dating from the 12th. Century it has some spectacular stained glass, medieval effigies and beautifully carved misericordes. The staff are very friendly and welcome all visitors of any faith - or none. Well worth a visit!
A beautiful church with stunning hand carved wooden misericord. Also the original town clock workings are displayed in a glass cabinet.
If you are happy to climb the 200 steps to the top of the tower. The views of Ludlow town are stunning, my personal favourite is the Autumnal colours of Whicliff Forrest as a back drop to Ludlow castle.
God's light shining through man's stained glass windows, warms this old heathen's soul
Stunning stained glass windows and wood carvings within this historic church! Absolutely beautiful gem in Ludlow. If you like visiting churches and finding out the history, this is one which shouldn't be missed!
Friendly welcome. Some beautiful stained glass and plenty of information boards plus a vudeo introduction. Shop and a tea stall.
Some very interesting misericords to be found in the choir.
Loved this Church. A little oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of life. Well worth a visit, we will return.
A beautiful church with some amazing architecture, stained glass windows, and truly amazing wood carvings. Certainly worth a visit and would highly recommend to visitors to Ludlow as a must see place.
I am a steward at St Laurence and believe visitors always have a pleasant experience.
Lots of interesting history and beautiful churche plus some great art for sale
Great church full of history, the walk to the top of the tower is amazing and we'll worth it the views of Ludlow are beautiful. Steps are windy and steep, u must be fit
Went to light a candle for my mother who died a year ago, but was told I could not do so due to Covid 19 restrictions. In a time of great difficulty and upheaval the church should be a place of refuge and solice.
Was greatly upset that I wasn't allowed to mark my mother's death.
First church I've seen with a contactless machine for donation. Modern but a bit forceful. Promo video could do with a better edit.
Very impressive large parish church in the heart of Historic town of Ludlow...not to be missed. Has a good gift shop.
Beautiful Church, like a mini cathedral. We were very lucky to hear the Chepstow Male Voice Choir at lunchtime - they were passing through! The carvings on the pews are magnificent and extraordinary..........and the people there were very friendly......
A real supprise to see the inside of this wonderful church
Beautiful church in heart of Ludlow with Church Inn beer garden in the grounds. Eat, drink and be holy... Always very peaceful just stepping inside away from the bustle of town.
One of the most spectacular parish churches in England.
Great Church in the middle of Ludlow. Lovely inside really enjoyed our quick visit here.
Lovely church which you can visit the spire on certain days.
Climb the tower .It's tough but well worth it for the fabulous view.
Access permitted to all areas of church and a lovely person welcomed us.
When in Ludlow, visit
Wow! One of the other reviews says a "mini-cathedral" and I think that's a fair comment. It is a lovely light church with large windows. There is a lot of history with one of the kings of England having reputed to have been partly (yes, that's correct!) buried here. The climb up the tower is well worth the three pounds. There are no passing places except for two doorways - but the views over the English countryside are extensive. Just time it better than we did with a shower coming striding in just as we reached the top! :-) When you go up the tower, you might time it lucky with the bell strikes - fingers in ears!
Friendly staff too - yep - liked this church.
We received a very warm welcome when I visited with a friend, was given very interesting information. All given without the ask of a donation, so don't forget to! Definitely planning on visiting again
Beautiful church to visit. I'm not a regular churchgoer but if im in this area will always visit and light a candle for those no longer with me.
Currently being refurbished but still very much worth a visit. Lots to see and learn, very interesting.
Wonderfully beautiful church, we visit & donate every time we visit Ludlow. Always changing, as this community church evolves via funding from Ludlow Palmers to repair it & make it community accessible, please donate whenever you visit
Lovely church in the heart of Ludlow. I recommend you walk to the top of the spire and you will get amazing views of the surrounding area
What a gem! Such a marvellous building with so much history. A glorious place and a 'must see' location to visit in Ludlow.
One of the best churches I've been to! Been there twice, got to see the King's Singers rehearse and also got to play on the organ on the second visit! Very good Nicholson organ for other organ enthusiasts and organists out there!
Lovely church in a lovely town. Well worth a visit.
Amazing building and interesting. Very historical. Enjoyed the experience. The only disappointment was the modern chairs. Shame it wasn't possible to replace previous seating with pews. That's just my opinion.
Really impressive building with lots of history and great stained glass
Interesting history. Someone has put a lot of effort into making this church a welcoming environment. Used to feel stuffy; now it is friendly.
Friendly welcome. Surprisingly large, some interesting features. Small gift shop with drinks available.
A credit to England - very friendly staff, rich history, and a delightful tower climb
Lovely historic church, beautiful carvings in wood and stone throughout. Wonderful views from the tower all around Ludlow and the surrounding area.
We came upon this sturdy little church on a walk around the Stiperstones. It's such a small place, but we couldn't resist going in. The few stained glass windows are quite beautiful and the simplicity of the inside is quite humbling. Although it had been rebuilt in the 1800s, it retains that solid stability you expect from a church. A very nice visit.
Great place for going on the lash at the Annual St Laurence Church Beer Festival. A race to get plastered the mostest. And all in the name of Jesus!
Known as "the cathedral of the Marches" for good reason
Very intresting, plenty of history had a feel about it
Beautiful building inside and out. Great choir. Services are very high church, if you like that.
Impressive old church , terrific views from the tower , getting up exercises the legs
St Laurence's Church in Ludlow is the largest parish church in Shropshire, often called Cathedral of the Marches.
Most of the construction dates from 1433 to 1471, built on 11th century foundations. The church is in the Perpendicular style,
The chancel features an incredibly detailed choir screen and stalls. There are many uniquely carved misericords, featuring heraldry, beasts, animals and scenes of everyday life.
The large stained glass windows are stunning. The east window depicts the matyrdom of St Laurence. The west window shows many kings and saints.
Many of the occupants of Ludlow Castle are buried in the church, including the bowels of Arthur, Prince of Wales, son of Henry VII, in a lead box beneath the choir.
No pews so you can't take a dog to keep your feet warm in winter.
Wonderful ancient church. Lots of information available about its history and it's present and future activities. Serves the community in lots of ways. Apart from the religious activities as a Church of England, St Lawrences also provides a venue for toddler groups,, concerts, film shows, lectures, plays, etc. It has an indoor disabled toilet, a kitchen, a coffee machine, a lovely shop currently full of Christmas cards and gifts, lots of people around who are happy to assist or chat. It is a ministering church and is open all day everyday. In the heart of Ludlow.
