A few days away in Bath during week one of lockdown restrictions starting ease enabled us to find the ever popular Sub 13 champagne and cocktail bar.
As with all establishments, only outdoor seating is available at present but the large terrace at the rear of Sub 13 was an ideal place to sit for a few hours and enjoy being able to go out again.
All in all a great experience for us and somewhere we would recommend and return to if visiting Bath for the afternoon or evening.
Key advice..... make an advance booking for the terrace otherwise prepare to be disappointed or have a long wait. It s very popular!!

Harry was a great host for an hour or so of learning how to make cocktails. Was a lot more in depth than I had thought it would be, was very interested to learn about the 4 main types of cocktail (preparation). We tried some of his creations that were all pretty nice and then got the chance to make some ourselves. He did well with our slightly chatty group and we all had a good time.... plus all wobbled out of there. Recommended!
If you're concerned about social distancing, Sub 13 isn't the place for you. In general, things are different.
Arrived on Fri at 7pm and all seemed safe with one way signs, track and trace plus hand santiser on entrance. Person on the door was communicating with staff at the back to confirm whether there was space for us in the back garden. We shared a corner sofa with 2 other socially distanced pairs. So all seemed fine.
But things didn't stay fine for long
2. There was way more waiting staff than bar staff. 1st out of 2 rounds of drinks was super slow - for a moment, I thought they forgot our drinks. 2nd round was a lot quicker even though it was busier
3. The garden really started getting busier from about 8:30pm onwards. Large groups of about 8+ were moving between seating areas. One of which was moved to where we were sat by the Sub 13 staff. A person had to closely pass me in order to sit down. So we decided not to stay for another round and call it a night instead
4. Entry and exit was the same way - so the one way stickers was just for show. A lot of people loitering along the garden entrance/exit making it impossible to social distance. Waiting staff was narrowly overtaking us even though we were trying to leave. I asked her whether this was the exit and she said it was
We had a great night in Sub13. We booked a table so got straight in past the queue. It s table service only but it worked so well, the waitress was attentive, friendly and engaging. Not at any point did any of us have empty glasses. The system is great, we loved not having to fight our way to the bar, balance drinks back to the table etc..let s hope they keep this system after covid restrictions end! To top it off the music was great, creating a fantastic atmosphere all night. Highly recommend this place!
Very nice garden with heaters :) However we had to ask for pizza 4 times before our order was able to go through and it took them a bit less than an hour to serve a pizza that was also really not that great. As they charge for service charge on everything in advance I felt I had to pay it. I would not have paid it if I had known the service wouldn't be that great.
I've been to this bar a few times and it has always been a fantastic night out. It's lively, beautiful and the servers were super sweet and fun. I have been served by Guy the french man who has become my best friend on a night out there and Lowri who I just want to put in my pocket and carry everywhere. They really make the place what it is and it's a great bar.
