For fans of Hayao Miyazaki, the museum is a must visit. wonderfully playful, helpful if you know Japanese. seeing the thought process and sketches during the development process is quite amazing and detailed. navigate the ticket process carefully as you need to get them ahead of time and they run out.

Loved this whimsical, entertaining and very enjoyable museum to explore. Its a bit of a hike to get there from most parts of Tokyo, but well worth it for the $10 ticket (if you can get one). I liked the walk to the park, a nice glimpse into suburban Tokyo life and a nice park to walk by. Not knowing how to read Japanese did not hinder my experience and it is such a fun museum to explore carefully and learn the process of how Ghibli films come to life. Not allowing cameras made the experience so much better, and something I wish more museums would do.

Save the short films for last, you will appreciate the animation and how it comes to life even more.

Worth a visit for fans of Ghibli and mostly for everyone with kids. The trip up to Mitaka is a bit long (one hour and change from most places in Tokyo) so be ready. You need to buy your tickets in advance as tickets for the day seem to sell out in a flash (I am not even sure they are even available). Buy them at Lawson combini one month in advance or pay an agency to buy them for you.

For all Ghibli movie lovers this is a must see place. Tickets must be bought beforehand and attendance is only allowed during the time slot in your ticket. There are wonderful permanent exhibitions and some that are changing annually. Quite nice selection in the museum store, although there could be more clothing variety available. The main attraction is the giant Cat Bus where children can play. The museum setting is imaginative and beautiful, all decorations well planned to suit the magical worlds of Ghibli. Meet Totoro and friend, this place is unforgettable. Unfortunately taking photos inside is not allowed.

Don't miss the Miyazaki. The museum is not very large, but exquisite. The souvenir department is not as good as other stores outside. It is good to be unable to take pictures, and feel it with your heart.

A great experience for Studio Ghibli fans but honestly I expected bigger, more to see. + too many people, a lot of children obviously so quite noisy .... but it remains a museum to do as a fan of the studio while traveling in Japan. PS: do not buy your tickets on the internet in France, it's much more expensive, you can find tickets in lawson

YOU HAVE TO MAKE RESERVATION WITH AT LEAST A MONTH. The entrance fee is not really expensive, kind of cheap in comparison to other places. It is small and unfortunately they do not let you film or take pictures inside of the museum other than the places shown in the pictures.

Amazing Place. Reccomend to buy your tickets beforehand (from Sydney I bought it from a Japan travel agency online and got it sent to me) so you can plan your trip. It's about a 20minute walk from the nearest train station. Photography not allowed inside.

If you have watched a lot of Hayao Miyazaki's animations and appreciate his works, it is very suitable for visiting. Remember to make an appointment first. We chose the first time slot. A lot of people were waiting in line when they arrived. Taking photos is forbidden in the exhibition, and you must abide by the regulations! The entire exhibition can slowly take more than 2 hours to appreciate. !

The venue is not big, but when you see various manuscripts and exhibits, you will remember a lot of memories. The old-time film painting machinery displayed is very interesting and worth visiting.

The museum is great the only downside is that it is all in Japanese, the exhibition houses many sketches that are around the rooms have comments that are only in Japanese, so you do not enjoy the same.

Such a beautiful place. The writing is in Japanese but it did not take away from anything. It was great to see all the drawings and how the process works. And we really loved the short movie we saw. A cute day out.

It is very popular and you need to buy tickets in advance but if you have the chance I highly recommend coming here if you are a fan of any Ghibli movie and have an adventurous heart. Explore the museum inside and outside at your own pace and don t be afraid to explore with all of your senses! They have two short films only shown at the museum as well as an exhibition space that changes somewhat occasionally. The Straw Hat cafe is very busy but is worth the wait if you are hungry as the dishes and interior as just as magical as the rest of the museum. The staff are also friendly and will help with any questions you may have. I spent half a day here without any rush and would suggest anyone else to come here with a lot of free time and an open mind.

It is not the end - just hanging out like an ordinary museum - but the whole museum shows the end of the detail that shapes the image of the Ghibli work in every corner.
It is a dream-like space for those who like Ghibli animation.

The original animation which is shown in the museum is also very interesting.
Actually, it 's not so good for the enthusiasts to say that the 70' s mother - in - law who does not know Ghibli (rather than animation itself) enjoyed it.

Mitaka, which is the Ghibli Museum of Art, has to get out of the city center. It is not a place to visit as it is a sightseeing spot nearby (although there are Inokashira Park), but if you get a ticket in the middle of the day, But I think it would be worth paying that much for a fan.

The problem is that it is too hard to get a ticket through a foreign site in Korea, and the fact that the museum is actually a mere person.
In particular, it seems to have more Westerners in the Ghibli Museum than Westerners who have wandered around in Tokyo as proof of Ghibli's popularity in the West.

If you want to see how much you can afford, you can either leave the table for the first time, or leave it until the closing time.

I would like to know how good it would be if I could visit a secluded Ghibli museum.

Definitely must see if you're into studio ghibli. You have to purchase tickets online ahead of time. There's a ghibli bus that takes you there and back to the station. The museum has lots to see and there's a section where you see the story boarding and art which is really nice. Not allowed to take photos inside but you can outside. The iconic robot giant is on the upmost floor. There's a cafe but it can get busy so eat beforehand. Otherwise there's a Lawson's down the street and you can grab some yummy fried chicken.

For the reservation system, you need to book tickets online and choose the admission time. The number of people is well controlled. During the visit, you will not feel crowded. The animations are random. The animations that may be seen during each visit are different. Very special experience. .

Tickets are made in the same way as film films. Everyone gets different, with different movies as the theme, it is worth collecting.

Great museum about the most famous animation studio in the world!
Great architecture, super child-friendly and really lovingly furnished.
Thanks to the ticket and reservation system, the museum is not at all overcrowded.
However, residents must reserve the relevant slot 1 month in advance (always on the 10th at 10 a.m. JST).

Admission: 1,000 yen

A wonderful place to visit. Allow for 2 hours or more to really enjoy the place. The staff were very friendly and everything seemed to run smoothly. The short anime of Totoro was great and brought back great memories of the film. You can see and experience the designs and drawings of the famous films throughout the building. There is a huge toy cat bus for kids up to 12 years to play on. On the roof top is a large model of one of the robots from laputa. Great place

I'm a huge Ghibli fan so I loved it, got to see a short film based on Totoro, and even though it was in Japanese it was very enjoyable. My only complaint is that the gift shop didn't have a very good selection of stuff from movies other than Totoro.

My wife, two daughters and I were here in early July, 2015. The museum was the highlight of our sight-seeing and my younger daughter paid a lot of attention to the artful details. We spent hours there and enjoyed the walk to and from it!

I wasn't exactly going to the Ghibli Museum, but I couldn't make a reservation because it was a pay job. I heard that Mitaka Forest is also worth visiting, but it seems that Mitaka Forest is not a specific place. I think it would be good, but in winter, it is under construction to drain the pond next to it, and it is greener than the winter in Korea.
I couldn't make a reservation for Ghibli so just took a walk around the park. Old trees, quiet and clean, so nice to go for a walk. But you'd be better to visit here in other seasons since it's a little desolate in winter.

A museum really pleasant to visit whether you know the Ghibli universe or not! Please note reservations are very hard to have and leave very quickly three months before the date of visit ...
If like us the site in FR version is out of stock, do not hesitate to send an email to the sites of other countries, we had our tickets in Germany by post!

I am a big fan but it is really too small! Extremely difficult to book for foreigners requires to go through tour operators who charge 150 euro per day

In the end we are almost back to Japan because we could not go the first time and how to say, we expected a bigger there are only two really interresing rooms that take 10 minutes each to visit the rest of the restaurant , a cinema or a film of 10 minutes and a microscopic garden on you
In addition to a very strong foreign presence all or almost is in Japanese so will understand the room or they explain the manufacture of the cartoon anime

Do not expect much you will not be disappointed

When I went there before, it felt like people had to keep up with the person in front of them like an assembly line, instead of stopping and watching.
Since the reopening in September after the corona, the number of visitors has been reduced, so I was able to see it comfortably. It was the afternoon, but I was surprised because there were too few people.
The cafe was also empty.
The cat bus is for children only, with a limit on the number of people (probably up to about 10 people)
Alternate every 15 minutes
Reservation required in front of the cat bus
Approximately 7 minutes to play, 7 minutes to clean
It was a flow like that.
It seemed that he was very careful about cleaning the entire building, so I was able to enjoy it with peace of mind.

I'm such a fan girl when it comes to Studio Ghibli movies so it was a fantastic treat when I found out there was a museum dedicated to the art near Tokyo. It's a little far from downtown Tokyo, but by no means prohibitively so. I went for a morning and was back to Tokyo by tea time. The tickets have specific times you can go in so the museum is never too crowded and the wait is predictable. I loved the beautiful little house and the roof with the windy stairs. I only wish they had better descriptions of what you were looking at either in a brochure or near the exhibits (what little text there was was in Japanese).

An mportant thing to know is that you have to buy your tickets at least a month in advance. You can find information on how to do this on their website.

We walked to the museum from the Kichijoji Station, but I think you can also take a bus from the station.

Event hough it was raining the whole day, we had a very nice time at the Gibhli museum.

Besides the rain, the only downside to the museum is the fact that you are not allowed to take pictures inside the museum. It would have been a lovely memory to have a picture of the kids crawling on and playing with the Cat Bus.

It is not a big museum, but we enjoyed all there was to see. A viewing of a short Gibhli movie is included in the ticket price.

The small gift shop has lots of merchandise to choose from, but the queue to pay was rather long.

Since it was raining a lot, we didn't go out in the garden.

The museum is of course a must-see for all Gibhli fans, but I think the general tourist will enjoy a visit too.

The ghibli world view is clogged!

The ghibli world view is clogged!
Since it is an art museum, basically it is recommended to watch slowly and slowly, but children can enjoy moving in the play area where you can ride a big "cat bus". Children of various ages were brought together, but children tend to get tired of exhibitions up to the age of lower grade.
When adults are concentrating on the exhibition, it tends to be like "I want to go to the cat bath", so we recommend that you enter the morning from the morning with a margin in the first case.

If it is difficult to wait, go to the outside hot dog or ice cream stand
Toilets on each floor are also very nice, it is good to look around! Hand washing is a beautiful color soap.

The Ghibli museum was a wonderful treat! Great for fans of the animation to see some "how it's made" stuff in a beautiful building. You get to see a special viewing of a short that they rotate. They are not in or subtilted in English, but the story is easy to glean from the well done animation. Large gift shop. This is something that you should get your ticket in advance for as they do limit admission.
