About Students on ice
Students on Ice (SOI) Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to foster leadership for a sustainable future by connecting youth to nature, knowledge, people, and resources. The foundation was established in 2000 by Geoff Green, who is an experienced expedition leader and environmental educator. Since then, SOI has been organizing educational expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions for students from around the world.
The expeditions organized by SOI are not just ordinary trips; they are life-changing experiences that provide students with unique opportunities to learn about the environment, culture, and history of these remote regions. The expeditions are led by a team of experienced educators, scientists, artists, and explorers who share their knowledge and expertise with the students.
One of the main objectives of SOI is to inspire young people to become leaders in their communities and take action towards creating a more sustainable future. Through its programs, SOI aims to empower young people with the skills and knowledge they need to make positive changes in their communities.
SOI's educational expeditions are designed for high school students aged 14-18 years old. The expeditions typically last between two weeks to one month depending on the destination. During this time period, students participate in various activities such as wildlife observation, scientific research projects related to climate change or oceanography studies as well as cultural exchanges with local communities.
Apart from its educational programs for high school students; SOI also offers professional development opportunities for educators through its Arctic Expedition Leadership Program (AELP). This program provides educators with hands-on experience leading student groups on Arctic Expeditions while developing leadership skills necessary for effective teaching.
SOI's mission is not only limited to educating young people but also involves raising awareness about environmental issues among policymakers at national levels through advocacy campaigns aimed at promoting policies that support sustainability initiatives worldwide.
In conclusion; Students on Ice Foundation has been doing an excellent job fostering leadership among youth for a sustainable future. Its educational expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions provide students with unique opportunities to learn about the environment, culture, and history of these remote regions while inspiring them to become leaders in their communities. The foundation's advocacy campaigns aimed at promoting policies that support sustainability initiatives worldwide are also commendable.
