There are moments in your life that define you and moments that break your perception on the value of life.

On Saturday, January 21st, my peaceful, entitled life was interrupted with a massive blood clot in my spinal column. I had surgery the day before on my spine and was pushing it a little too much, too soon, when suddenly, I felt pain that I will never forget. It wasn't just excruciating, it was truly life threatening. It felt like my nerves in my back had been injected with lead, and then covered in napalm. I was scared, my wife was horrified, and the other tenants in the apartment complex were shocked and jolted with fear at my loud screams of pain.

Shortly after calling 911, three gentleman showed up, 2 paramedics and 1 police officer. Even though they were walking into an apartment of horrors, they stayed calm and attempted to calm my wife and I down as well. They talked to me, calmed me the best they could and got me down to the ambulance. It wasn't easy as I was thrashing and fighting their help the whole way due to my pain. Never once did they make me feel less of a person, they listened, responded and joked with me. Once the hospital stabilized my pain, my lower body was still paralyzed.

As I was transferred to a different hospital in Detroit, one of the men, a younger man, sat with me and talked to me in the ambulance. I don't remember his name, but I will never forget his kindness and generosity. His professionalism was there, but he also invested in our conversation, making me feel better and better as time progressed. By the the end of the ride, suddenly, my foot moved, the paralyzation was wearing off.

I was dropped off and never saw those two men again. I wanted to write this because I want to find these two men and personally thank them for their services. Not because they did their job. Not because they performed, in my opinion, above and beyond. It's because in a time and moment where I was at my most vulnerable and scared, they truly made an effort to make me feel that I was an individual who mattered. It may not seem like much, but it was. I'll always remember this day because of their care, generosity, steadfastness and professionalism, but most importantly, I'll always remember them because of their heart and compassion in what was a stressful and difficult situation.

#514 safely transported my mom to the hospital. The ems team was professional and friendly. I wanted to say thank you at the destination but I was unable to enter after hours. I don't think you choose your ambulance, but I was very thankful I got the crew in 514 tonight.

Worst experience ever!I think the previous post by James Brown might be about me.. First and only time in an ambulance..7 months ago two younger women took me to the hospital a few days after I had a previous routine surgery..I was in agony.. They didn't buckle me in so every turn felt like I was going to be thrown from the gurney.. They literally did not touch or talk to me... I Ithought I was in the back alone until near the end of the ride I heard the blond sigh heavily between my wailing..it was a rude sigh.. Like my crying in pain was bothering her.. Then when we got to the hospital they parked my gurney half in and half out of the door so my face was getting rained on while they chatted with someone. Then they left me in a hallway for over an hour writhing in agony... When someone finally found me they said no one told them I had been dropped off. No compassion whatsoever. I don't know if this is indicative of the whole company but these " ladies" were awful.
