Excellent location good price although it is on the second floor and if you carry heavy bags is a mess.
Excellent location good price although it is on the second floor and if you carry heavy bags is a mess.
Very dirty carpets, very uncomfortable beds, nothing hospitable people at reception, no elevator, good location and not as expensive as other hotels more central
Comfty, well located. Helpful staff. Just not elevators, everything else good!!!!
Cute rooms with a nice view. Good staff, always welcoming and kind, and the cozy mood makes you feel right at home.
Very clean and curteous staff. Great area and let us store our bags after checking out
Small rooms. Not exactly clean. But ok for the price.
total scary dump but I loved it. It is so scary the people hanging out, the nonsense, the dirty and the noise and everything but I did enjoy the dark side. Visit here if your life is really screwy and you'll leave with gratitude.
Great location, and nice people work there, but the problems: no elevator (if you have luggage) and the rooms and bathrooms are super small.
You get your money's worth. Cozy enough, and the AC worked. Saw a roach on the bathroom floor one night, but that's to be expected in the city.
It was good! We had a good time and would do it again. Location was the best. A budget hotel, for sure but, clean and quite adequate. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was small and no elevator. We spent time enjoying the city, not the room. Lack of elevator was ok for us. We are in decent shape and love to walk.
We were close to several subway lines so, getting around was easy. Bagel shop, pizza, hot dogs, subway, starbucks, pharmacies, k Mart and much more, all within a block from our room. Close to nyu, Washington square. What more could you want. Maybe 3 stars is too low. Make that 4.
Small rooms for price that's paid walk up 4 flights of stairs.
If you want a low cost option for the location. Dirty sheets, little amenities, and cash only. Spend a few more bucks for better rooms and service.
Good value for the money. Small, clean rooms, reservations by phone, cash only, lower cost than anything else in the neighborhood.
Hotel with simple structure, very well located and clean.
I love this hotel! Excellent location, great price, small room (but all you need!). Staff was chill too.
Although the rooms are a little small, it's quiet and in an easy to get to spot.
Didn't stay there actually was eating pizza at Rays Go to Rays if you stay at hotel
Had the pizza downstairs. Staff was nice, pizza was pretty good. They're open late.
Because I don't have any problems with the help desk and enjoy time with my love
No elevator, only takes cash. Room is very basic and old.
My boyfriend and I stayed there for 3 nights. Our room was clean and the staff was helpful. If you're not looking for anything fancy...and all you need is a place for a bed and shower, then this would be it. We were minutes away from the subway. There was plenty of food in the area. Location wise, I was very happy. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel...at a reasonable price too.
One more thing, if you're not ok with a bit of rumbling from the subway below, then you're better off staying in a 5-star hotel or off of Manhattan.
Havent been but was lookinh for nice reasonably priced place in New York & found this one. Worth a check if going to New York.
Truly one of the areas historical hotels.. loved it
Small rooms this is an old hotel that's been on St Marks for years and years and years a lot of history there Jim Morrison of The Doors used to live there I used to live there in the eighties great place man very historic
People are nice but there's no elevator and steep narrow stairs. Price is fair but not suitable for seniors or large luggage.
it was okay and out of the way little place that I would consider recommending to other people not everyone only special one
It could have been cleaner and it was a bit too small.
Small rooms. Beautiful building full of amazing wood work. No mini fridge Broken light switch and bulb Quite clean
Place need renovations .... baaaaaad! Extremely small room and bathroom was literally like one person fits all.
No fills at ALL only a $130+ rock hard bed and you have to pay for WiFi.
Excellent experience love it
Comming back soon
The hotel is basic but does the job. The bed was squeaky and the shower only ran hot in the morning. Cards are not accepted at the hotel, only cash. The deli / breakfast / pizza place below the hotel is well worth a visit! The breakfasts are immense and the cheesecakes looked incredible! I am kicking myself that we never actually got one!
Okay hotel no elevator not good when you have luggage.
Nice Location, But The staff is The impersonation of unmotivation and unfriendliness
The heat quit working the first night we were there and they brought up a space heater.
Staff was unfriendly, room rate online changed by fifty dollars when I showed up. If you don't want to sleep and the fluctuating temp of the shower is not an issue, stay here. Very good location for stuff to do.
We stayed at St. Mark's while helping our son move into a NYU Law School dorm. It was very clean, quiet, attractive and convenient. The bedroom was tiny as was the bathroom, but they were well maintained and fairly modern. We enjoyed walking around the area and easily found wonderful dining and shopping. The staff was helpful and polite, and we will definitely stay here again. A great value that also gives a feeling of being in the NY of yore.
Honestly I didn't even end up staying the night because I had to call with a question and the staff was so incredibly rude I just cancelled my reservation.
The staff were very helpful. The rooms are a tight sqeeze, but they are clean. Prices are reasonable for NYC standards. Location is very conveniant. Don't expect any luxury, but as a tourist you shouldn't be much on your room anyway ;-)
We love this hotel! Perfect location, amazing prices, feels very safe and clean. The people that work here are extremely friendly! There s not much else to ask for.
Loud when they are partying on the roof. The complimentary ear plugs on the night stand should have been a clue.
Very good location. The rooms are small but clean. Nice and helpful staff.
It's a spot near my old job. Seems to have some history.
Great location, easy to get to, and check in was a breeze
I was a guest at this hotel a year ago. small and basic but clean room, helpful and friendly, they helped as much to solve a small problem of transportation. Close to the metro and close to the center.
Loud, thin walls, small room and bathroom, only take cash, but it is near a lot of things!
Our room (#36 facing St.Marks) might be a very tight fit where the queen bed takes up most of the space, but with a little rearrangement the room worked fine. We basically changed the bed's orientation to create a passage all around the bed, giving us both a place to lay our bags on the floor...and hang a couple of things, but there is really no more space than that. The outside NYC noise never bothered us from sleeping...we wear ear plugs.
The hotel itself was very quiet. Probably not the best time to visit NYC but one of the cheapest.
The temperature was extremely cold and damp. Reminding me of a Rolling Stones song "She Was Hot"; "New York City was cold and damp..."
The washroom (no bath) is minuscule.
You could probably brush your teeth while on the toilet while washing your feet in the shower...if you needed to.
The cramp shower might take 5-10 min.to get hot depending on the time of day.
There is nothing to put your stuff (soap, shampoo, etc) in or on, other than the floor.
We never let the staff come in to clean (because I wouldn't trust anyone there)
the Spanish speaking guy showed me pretty fast how useless they are at solving problems (our shower wasn't getting hot at first).
The room had no safe.
One of the 3 lights in the room was flickering.
The TV has HBO !!
But it is 2001 tiny...
So if you are still reading this and not into all the fluff... This place is so well situated!
I was even able to park our car (for free!) on 7th street for 7 days moving it twice.
We almost settled and went to stay at the 17th street inns with shared bath...glad we didn't!
Even though Woody Allen filmed in one of them, he does call it a "flea bag hotel".
St. Marks Hotel might be pricier but it is a better choice, at those prices.
Fantastic pizzeria on the ground floor. Very poor hotel "class of Motel 6", so dingy, but at least housekeeping tried to keep it clean as possible.
Cheap hotel but nice and central. It does not have a lift, and the more luxurious rooms are up a few stairs. The more luxurious room also has no table or sofa, just a chair. Air conditioning works well, TV is good to watch from the bed.
Decent value for money at a great location, but don't expect too much. Rooms are outdated and tiny as you would expect in this price class. The walls were so thin we could hear what people were talking about in the room next to us. Difficult to get the shower temperature right. Beds are not really comfy and there's no lift. They accept cash only. Staff were helpful though.
This place is cash only, a detail which I was supprised by after booking a room here on with orbitz. The day staff isn't overly ingratiating, but not really outright rude. The night staff has always provided friendly faces. The rooms are big enough to walk around in, and the location is pretty hard to beat.
Amazing location, the matress is a little sqeeke but other than that clean as hell. Will certainly stay at the legendary St. Marks Hotel again.
While it may not be the Ritz, it's decent enough for a night out at to engage in adult fun time
Disappointed. Clean but heating was broken in my room and shower was cold only. No refund, I recommend paying night by night only.
Cash Only when booking in person! An OK hotel for the city. Good location and fairly clean. Staff seemed nice enough. Small rooms, basic beds flat screen TV.
Nope nope nope.
BEST ADVICE IF YOU GO TO ST MARK'S: PAY PER DAY!! Never in advance.
St. Mark's hotel in New York is by far the worst experience i've ever had.
Me and my family went to 5 different hotels throughout our journey to the US (D.C, New York, Woodbury Commons, Niagara Falls, Pittsburgh).
This is by far the most expensive and terrible hotel we ever been to.
The room was dirty, the A/C wasn't working properly, the shower was either only cold or hot, we found 2 very small but alive cockroaches in our room(sadly my gf panicked before i could snap a photo of them, and shoved them away from her bed). There were chewing gum in the carpet and something that remarkably looked like dried blood as well. YUCK!
We had 4 nights at St Mark's before leaving to Niagara falls, and we decided to pay all the nights in advance.. Cause why not?
By the second night we have had enough of this hotel, so we checked online and found some sweet deals on last night offers for hotels nearby, that was the same price and looked much nicer.
I then went to ask the manager if it was possible to get our money back, since we were leaving earlier (and considering they offered us to pay per day, when we arrived). That was not possible.
Anyways.. We had a great time in NYC. But we were definitely not satisfied with St. Mark's Hotel.
PS: It says there is a restaurant at the hotel - nope there's not.
Ok for the price ...
Hotels in the heart of Manhattan are often very expensive.
Provide earplugs as the walls are thin and the street is noisy.
The staff is very nice.
Rooms are pretty basic. The area is OK. Close to transportation. The heating is not the best, but the staff is helpful. It's anyway on the cheap side for Manhattan.
Well, I know this is a 1 star hotel. And the employees are nice and gentle. But the smell in the rooms is not really pleasant. The moquette is old and dirty. The restroom clean but old. No lobby, no hall
This is definitely a budget accommodation. If price rules your choice of hotels, then this is the place for you. The room & bath are very small, the bed only a double, and the room not much wider than the bed. While the room & bath were clean, there are no amenities in the room like a coffee service
Cash only. So, yeah. That should let you know what you are getting into.
No frills, clean and quiet. Great value for an overnighter in the east village.
Great Hotel in Great location .rooms not that big but for the price is worth it.we stayed two nights everything is close by Metro ,Restaurants ,bars, shopping area....
service was good very friendly staff .
i recommend it
There's no elevators so we were constantly climbing stairs but it wasn't too bad. I stayed there on St. Patrick's Day so it was a little loud due to drunk people, but that was nothing I didn't expect. It's a short walk to the subway station and it's right above a nice shop where you could eat all your meals (bonus: it's open 24 hours a day).
We chose the hotel because it was reasonably central and with the facilities we were looking for. (Read AC WiFi and private bathroom) This suits those who spend minimal time in the room. Poor sound insulation, the feeling of used sheets and a porter behind thick glass pane that only accepts cash do not directly raise the impression ...
Nice location and great atmosphere. The staff was competent though the room could've been a bit cleaner
Very nice hotel, especially considering the price, and the location is just great!
Not fancy, but a good location and very nice staff.
No it's not the Hilton. But $145 for a clean quiet cool room for four people (two double beds) in the heart of the east village works me and my family. We requested a quiet room from the friendly staff; we got #42 with a window facing a rooftop courtyard and it is very quiet! It has a clean, freshly tiled bathroom.
Yes you need to pay cash, yes you have to walk up, yes the carpets a little worn and there are vacuums and bags of linens in the hallways. But we will be back.
I don't know about this renting by the hour talk but it seemed perfectly respectable to us - a middle aged couple with teenage daughters
And the wifi is now free for guests!
We will be back.
For where we are in the city it's a great price the room is tiny but it doesn't matter if you're just here to sleep.
