St. Agnes Catholic Church: A Synodal Community of Communion, Participation, and Mission
St. Agnes Catholic Church is a vibrant and welcoming community of faith located in Waterloo, Ontario. As a synodal church, we strive to foster communion among our members, encourage active participation in the life of the church, and engage in mission to serve our local community and beyond.
Our commitment to these values is reflected in our various programs and initiatives that aim to nurture the spiritual growth of our parishioners while also reaching out to those who are seeking God's love and grace.
Towards a Synodal Church
At St. Agnes Catholic Church, we believe that every member has an important role to play in building up the body of Christ. That's why we embrace the concept of synodality - a way of being church that emphasizes collaboration, dialogue, and shared responsibility.
Through regular consultations with our parishioners and other stakeholders, we seek to discern together how best to live out our mission as a community of faith. This approach allows us to tap into the wisdom and gifts of all members while also ensuring that everyone feels heard and valued.
Communion
As Catholics, we believe that we are called into communion with one another through baptism. At St. Agnes Catholic Church, we take this call seriously by creating opportunities for fellowship and mutual support among our members.
Whether it's through small group discussions or larger social events like potlucks or picnics, we strive to build relationships based on trust, respect, and love for one another.
Participation
Active participation is essential for any healthy community - including the church! At St. Agnes Catholic Church, there are many ways for people to get involved according their interests or talents.
For example:
- We have various ministries such as music ministry (choir), altar servers ministry (for children), lectors ministry (readers), Eucharistic ministers ministry (distributing communion), and many more.
- We offer faith formation programs for all ages, including sacramental preparation for children and adults.
- We have a vibrant youth group that meets regularly to explore their faith together and engage in service projects.
Mission
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to be his hands and feet in the world. At St. Agnes Catholic Church, we take this mission seriously by engaging in various outreach activities that serve our local community and beyond.
For example:
- We support local charities such as the House of Friendship (a local food bank) through regular donations of food or money.
- We participate in ecumenical initiatives such as the annual "Week of Prayer for Christian Unity" to promote greater understanding among different Christian denominations.
- We organize mission trips to other parts of Canada or abroad where our members can serve those who are marginalized or suffering.
