I am at St Marys right now my wife delivered a baby yesterday the baby was born 5 pounds 12 ounces so it has to go to Nicu I had the worst experience of my life the people in NICU the lady who checks you in told me that my 15 year old kid could not be back there in NICU but my 16 year old could simply because flu season and they don't allow anyone under the age of 16 back there but if your 12 and have a kid here you can sit back there all you want or if you're 60 years old and are more prone to get the flu you can come back as well but that isn't exactly when it got bad it was when I asked to speak to the supervisor about y when the supervisor arrived they bring two police officers with them I guess to intimidate someone well it didn't work what it did was made me think hey now these people have some sort of grudge or vendetta on me and they take it out on my baby so now I'm scared for my child to even be at the hospital anymore I hope people read this and never come to Saint Marys

I started my maternal care here & was not satisfied. My appointment was at 7:30 am. I did not leave until 12:00 noon. For being a high risk clinic the doctors did not seem very knowledgeable. Everything seemed to be all over the place and thw doctor's changed constantly! I never had a set doctor due to the fact that they had a rotating schedule. I was more then happy when I was able to switch clinics.

This review is strictly for the Same Day Surgery D...

This review is strictly for the Same Day Surgery Department. And in reality, I actually give zero stars.

But to start with, my surgery was in June 2018. My surgeon was fantastic she pulled a cantaloupe sized tumor out through my belly button (via laparoscopic surgery). My post-anesthesia nurse was fantastic. Hannah and Margaret on the 5th floor were fantastic as well.

The same cannot be said for the two nurses that attended to me during the two hours before my surgery. The first thing that was shoved at me on the day of my surgery was not registration questions, but rather a cup for urine that I no longer possessed and no longer could produce because I had urinated right before my 5 minute trip to the hospital and I had nothing to drink in preparation for anesthesia.

Nobody thought to tell me that there would be a mandatory urine pregnancy test on the morning of my surgery that would act as an on/off switch to whether or not I would even be allowed to have surgery. I was deemed pregnant and ineligible for surgery until l proved otherwise with a negative pregnancy test.

The two nurses who attended to me insisted that they knew my body better than me and knew that I was going to be able to provide them with the urine that they needed. I was patronized and told ridiculous things like my kidneys are always producing urine (and I know that the last time I took Biology was in high school, but I m pretty sure there s a bladder and a brain between the kidney and the cup and in no way can a urine sample be compared to a blood draw if you stick me with a needle, I will bleed. I have no choice. A urine sample does not involve sticking my kidney with a needle and having urine involuntarily flow out) and they only needed a teeny tiny little bit for the test. Then they asked me to try. I gave them a teeny tiny little bit but was told that it wasn t enough.

The two nurses acted like they couldn t do anything to me until they had that urine sample, they couldn t even give me an IV. There I was standing naked in a hospital gown in the middle of the room on the day of my 5 hour abdominal surgery, and I was INCONVENIENCING them. They begrudgingly gave me an IV so I could give them a urine sample. I had to constantly hear how they couldn t do this or that and this and that because they didn t have the urine sample. I INCONVENIENCED them on the day of MY surgery.

I find it reprehensible that a woman is not told of the mandatory testing that she will have to complete. The first thing a woman sees at the hospital on the day of her surgery shouldn t be a plastic urine cup but maybe rather compassionate care. If a woman knows she can t offer urine, why is she patronized and harassed about it and then begrudgingly offered an IV. Maybe, the IV should be the first thing she sees on the day of her surgery before any mention of a urine test.

Women deserve better. They should know about the mandatory urine testing on the day of their surgery so they can plan accordingly. They know their bodies. Some will know that they need to hold their urine while others know their bodies will produce it no matter how hydrated they are. If an IV cannot be provided upon arrival, then a woman ABSOLUTELY NEEDS to know about this urine test prior to her surgery date so she can plan accordingly. As a woman who purposefully stopped drinking fluids for her surgery, I should have been told ahead of time of this mandatory test. I would have held my urine for them after I woke up. My patient autonomy to make that decision was not granted to me because nobody thought that I needed to know that information.

As a resident of Richmond Heights, it s truly sad that I will not be able to support my community s hospital. If you are looking for compassionate care on the morning of your surgery, please look elsewhere.

I made an appointment on-line for the Er.
On the phone they said I would do triage then will be taken to a room.... well three hours later I'm still waiting just like everbody else.
In total I've still been waiting six hours to have only been triaged..... I could've went to any hospital for this treatment

Went in for an MRI . Arrived at the exact time they requested . Given an armband a clipboard . Told to wait. A full hour later ,with absolutely no explanation for the delay , I left. Plenty of hospitals out there that appreciate your patronage. Not this one.

Been here for four hours now. Came at 12:45 when there were 10ish people waiting. Now there are around thirty and people are consistently being put into rooms ahead of us. My friend is having chest pains and we can't even get to see a doctor. She's just sitting waiting with an IV in her arm in alot of pain.

Edit: As we continue to wait the staff begins to socialize and hang out doing nothing which is immensely frusterating.

Went there for hernia surgery no one checked my medical history like SLUH did where I had the surgery at. I was seeing another dr and the anesthesiologist cancelled the surgery because he wanted my dr to release me for surgery and there was no need for him to do that and he told the anesthesiologist that he needed to make the decision. Good thing the surgery was cancelled and I had it at SLUH because the anesthesiologist acted like he was high on something. When my surgeon came in to see me before I left he was very apologetic and you could tell he was pissed at the anesthesiologist and he even said that there was no need for him to cancel the surgery since he was aware of my medical history. I wouldn't take my dog there for surgery. St. Mary's was the worst experience I had in my life.

Absolutely horrible experience! Sarah the RN watched my grandma struggle to get in the bed knowing that she was excruciating pain without even helping. She just watched her so i had to step in to help my grandma get up on the bed! We walked in the door for two seconds and she was already asking my grandma questions. Can we get in door and get settled in first?!?! My grandma was in so much pain that she couldnt lay down to get a cat scan. I was working with her to be able to lay down and inching my grandma to lay down by letting the bed down little by little. It was helping.... until the regular nurse that was assigned to her came in and yank the adjuster down FAST and causing her to yell because it hurted!!!!! She was very impatient with my grandma. I know for a fact that she did it on purpose just so she could hurry and get her cat scan done and get her out of the way. The room that we were in was extremely disgusting and had dust and hair and spots ALL OVER THE FLOORS. The restrooms were filthy with pee on the seats and toilet paper left all over the floors. My mom had to clean up the bathroom in order for my grandma to be able to use it. Samantha the registration lady was extremely friendly, caring, and patient with my grandma. She even lifted up her bed for her to make sure that she was comfortable unlike the other nurses that came in and she offered to get her purse and put it back for her. Its the small things that count and she was truly amazing and thats the ONLY reason that i gave this place 2 stars!!!!!!!!!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, THIS PLACE NEEDS SOME PROFESSIONAL HELP!!

They treat first time moms like they're stupid. They're rude and disrespectful. I was in the WEVU with high BP (I was checking the machine every time it took them, my blood pressure stayed around 150/90) and the nurse had the nerve to LIE TO MY FACE and say that my bp looked good, "in the 120's" and sent me home, keep in mind they were "very busy"
Now I'm being scheduled to be induced because of my blood pressure, and it's been two hours since the time I was supposed to come in. When I called they said they "need to clean up the rooms, so call back in another two hours" absolutely ridiculous. No compassion or regard for my time or worries. They simply don't care. I would switch hospitals at this point if it was possible.

My daughter had my grandson at st marys. I was not happy with her care. She got a pass the day after the baby was via c section to go to cardinal glennon for his surgery. She left at 8am did not get back until 8pm. They never checked on her even after going back to her room it took them over a hour to come to her room. The nurses were sitting at the desk laughing having a good time. When they did come back she was upset at leaving the baby. Not one asked her how he was or if she need to talk. The day she had surgery. They put her in a chair and just left after 3 hours her sister helped her back in bed
Not what I would call good care. There was no comparison in the nurses.

Only come here if you are dying and cant make it anywhere else. ER check in staff treat people like trash. Woman having seizure in lobby and they didn't even get up and then walked back to find someone at the slowest pace ive seen anyone walk. I know it gets stressful but if you can't handle the stress then find a job elsewhere. They dont discriminate, they treat all colors like scum. Regular St Luke's and will drive an extra 20 mins for polite and courteous fast service.

i called the hospital swirch board on 7/6/20 and asked if the hospital was providing COVID testing. I was transferred 4 times and got someone who still didnt have an answer other than if its an emergency you can come in. How does a hospital not have immediate answers to this..additionally the hospital sign in web site asked me the same questions 2 times and still didnt schedule.

The online check in is a marketing scheme. My "appointment" was for 11:30 and at about 12:30, finally a nurse took vitals and started an iv. It is now 2:15 and waiting in the waiting room with an iv sticking out of me. No communication with each other and chaos it seems.

I had the privilege of staying at Saint Mary s Hospital for 7 days. I was treated with respect and given the opportunity at every turn to direct my medical care. Although the food wasn t homemade it was good. They have the best chicken strips I ve ever had. The staff was amazing I only had one nurse I wasn t fond of the rest were simply amazing. The support staff was just as good. They didn t presume anything they asked if they could take my blood pressure or check my blood sugar. I will use this hospital again.

I was rushed to St Mary's Hospital from work from having chest pains. My Blood Pressure was extremely high and going up. To start off I had to request something to get my pressure down. Registration came in and after getting me registered he responded your co-pay that your insurance is $170.00 how would you liken to pay cash or charge. Bill me idiot I am afraid I am having a heart attack. My co-workers that accompanied me to the hospital and I were in dismay. The ER Dr. had no bed sided manner. After all the testing was done and it was determined that I did not have a Heart problem, He concluded that I had Sclerosis of the Liver. "Your heart is fine, but you have Sclerosis of the Liver," WHAT WHAT WHAT DID YOU SAY.We need to admit you for further testing. NO I chose to go AMA. If you have a heart attach I won't be responsible he said. WOW no I will go to my Dr. NO THANKS. Went to my Dr. did several test NO SCLEROSIS OF THE LIVER!!!!!!! SHAME ON YOU ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL

I had a horrible experience at saint Mary's er in 2016. I ended up having my baby here in 2017. Though the time there was hard most of it was not their fault. The nurses were saints but the anesthesiologists were horrible. It was overall an ok experience thanks to the great nursing staff.

Our elderly Aunt was admitted to the ICU at St. Mary's in critical condition with sepsis, kidney failure, and a fractured hip. The ICU staff was absolutely phenomenal! Katie, one of the nurses, was the most compassionate medical professional that I have ever met in my life! She wanted to know about "who" our Aunt was as a person; she wanted to acknowledge the entirety of her life. At the end of our Aunt's life, she was treated with absolute reverence and dignity. The doctors and nurses answered our questions, did everything possible medically, and gave us support and information. At one point, a person rolled a cart into our room with a cheese, cracker and fruit tray, and fresh coffee! When life supporting devices were discontinued (our Aunt had signed a Living Will), a wonderful chaplain was called (per the request of the family) and he sang, 'Amazing Grace" and prayed with her and our family. After we got home that night, a nurse called to ask what kind of music our Aunt enjoys because they wanted her to have music in the room (she was obviously unresponsive at this point). I normally do not give reviews, but I have read critical reviews of this hospital in the past; I felt it was important to tell people that the ICU at St. Mary's Hospital is stellar!

I recommend calling the ER on you way there to get in quicker. We have been coming to St Marys ER for our sons broken bones, bouts of what-not and never had a bad experience. I walked to the ER as a teen, after having cut my hand while working after school in the area. I still remember the care I got. The staff are for the most part attentive and professional. And the central location near highway 40 and the Innerbelt make it easy to get here.

After speaking with a nurse on the phone, I came into the ED. The triage nurse at the desk was cold and non-empathetic. As I sit here and wait to be called in the back, I'm currently listening to 2 nurses discuss pt information and disgust over why the patient is here... the sad part is that Im a nurse and while I sit here with non-medical parties, they are in shock at what's being said. Customer service definitely needs to be addressed and corrected.

The receptionist and nurses are extremely unprofessional and incompetent. I would not recommend this office or any extension of this office to ANYON . The first time I went the receptionist gave my check-in paperwork to another patient I told the nurse who was drawing blood the band to tie off my arm was too tight. I have had my blood drawn several times and it's never been so tight I felt pain. She actually told me itll only take a couple seconds. I got an ultrasound that had to be redone because of all things they didn't capture my uterus. Smh. The person conducting it was extremely incompeten . She really didn't know what she was looking at. My experience at Wash U to have the entire ultrasound redone was drastically different extremely professional and very competent.

The waiting room is horrible as well. Stay away unless you just have no other choice

Took my mom to the ER Sunday afternoon because a stomach bug left her severely dehydrated. The waiting area looked more like a hotel lobby than what I'd expect in an ER and the triage and ER rooms were bright and clean. Every staff member we interacted with was courteous and friendly and answered all the questions we had. They went above and beyond to make sure that nothing other than dehydration was going on.

We did have to wait a bit once it was clear she was going to be fine before they finished processing and releasing us, but that's understandable. There were more critical patients that needed attending.

My new primary care physician - Dr. Karen Chen - was wonderful! She was attentive and thorough. Also, she had my annual tests sent to MyChart for me to review on my smartphone within 24 hours. Then, when I sent her an email request for the tests from the year before to be posted to MyChart, she had it done that day. So, very quickly I was able to do a year-to-year compare of my overall health information, which was very convenient.

No one in this hospital knows how to transfer a call. The elevators DO NOT WORK RIGHT. We got stuck on an elevator just yesterday because it kept going up and down and stopping at floors where no one was wanting to get on. Waited for an elevator for 10+ min watching 3 of them go from floor to floor and when they each reached our floor, none of them opened. Their food in the cafeteria is awful. Super bland. And super expensive. This is honestly THE WORST HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE WE'VE EVER HAD. IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY!

NO STARS! Worst place to give birth- Women's Evaluation Unit staff lacks the professionalism and compassion for first time mothers. Lactation Nurse literally asked me when we first met- "What do I want?" Perhaps maybe some guidance on how to breastfeed- as your job title would suggest! Nurses used fear tactics to motivate you to do their will. Disregarded the rights of the patient by slowly disseminating information of procedural options. RIDICULOUS!

SSM has become the worst hospital when it comes to dealing with insurance companies. They have merged with slucare and other hospitals to where everything is separate. If you want billing from Radiology you have to contact that department; anesthesiology, that department; ER, that department; Hospital billing, that department; physician building, that department. Also, it does not I repeat it does not matter if you bring them power of attorney and health forms because number one they're going to lose your very first copy and deny ever receiving it and two once they receive the second copy it still wouldn't make any difference because each department says they cannot see it in the system and they need you to bring or fax them a new copy each time with the new Department. I wish I could rate SSM lower than the one but since I can't I guess I'll have to go with the rating of one but in my opinion throw the whole SSM hospital AWAY.

I have been here for an hour, they are so short staffed, I was about to get my own vitals. The check in person talked to an EMT instead of prioritizing patients. I had to call 911 from the waiting room. Staff didn t communicate when care was passed to another person. A woman fainted in waiting room before the saw her. This place has a stellar reputation 10 years ago. My wife came in 8 months ago and had to wait a long time also. I am going to write everyone I can, for this place is going downhill.

The last 3 times I was seen the staff was pretty unwilling to spend any time evaluating on what i said the actual problems were. They rushed and probably tell everyone the same thing, they were all young and inexperienced. My emergency visit was not terrible and the staff looked over worked at 4am so..I got 2 casts that both made my wrist more uncomfortable during later checkups and no helpful advice that Google can't provide. I visited my dad yesterday coming out of the garage waiting for elevator. I notice the trash can was full. I thought to myself here at saint Mary how dirty. I had to use the rest room. I was on the 3rd floor found a big puddle of water or was it. I tried the main floor bathroom when I entered I was truly appalled just nasty. This hospital had the nerve to have a sign up one on the top 100 hospitals. Do the hospital administrator and board members feel good about such a dirty place. I think they should stop hiring young lazy employees and get some serious hard workers. I am sure this is not the first time. I would never want to be a patient here. This place was just repulsive.

Absolutely amazing! My water broke early at 31 weeks pregnant so I had to stay at st Mary's from feb 22 to march 8 when I was finally discharged but my baby was still in nicu! Every single staff member at this hospital that I've come in contact with has been outstanding! From the nurses, doctors, nicu and the people cleaning my room and bringing me my food they were all so very friendly, informative, and just all around great! So glad I ended up here even under the circumstances! They've taken amazing care of me and my baby! I highly highly recommend giving birth here! Thank you st Mary's for being so great!

I'll say not all nurses are bad or doctors. I still do not know what wrong with me having a rapid heart rate of 189. The doctor put me on blood pressure medication to reduce my heart rate until my 30 day heart monitor was put on they say they didn't see anything with arrhythmias or anything but I had went to SLU Hospital because when my ER wait was long and others were being seen before me when they clearly came after. I had went to the ER almost every day within a week because of my rapid heart rate The doctor a SLU said he seen something on my ekg but the cardiologist refused to look at it at my last doctors visit for my heart. I would have thought they do stress test or something to see what may have caused it but the doctor said I'm fine and I can stop taking the medication given but I fear my heart rate will just go back up where I feel as if I'll pass out and weak from the episodes I have. I still continue to take the medication just to be sure they have miss diagnosed me again to be sure I don't die or anything. Hospital bills are to high to be continuously going mine are $17,000 and rising if I go back to another hospital to get checked out again. They just medicated me not knowing what is wrong with me and I fear if I stop the medication these all of a sudden "tachycardia episodes " will be the end of me. They did not even give me a true diagnosis and say go to a primary doctor. They also gave me anxiety med but if my heart rate becomes rapid I can't keep taking this sedative that makes me fall asleep and not wake up until it wares off. I have only taken it once. I'm truly thinking about making a go fund me so I can truly know what is wrong with me.

just got off of phone with St. Mary's home health care -- Despite the doctor's orders, they never sent out a nurse or any physical therapists to the home after discharge from the hospital because the 86 year old patient with dementia "told the nurse that he didn't need it!!"

They didn't bother to call the contact person. He looks like hell now and I have finally found out why no nurse has been to the house and that no nurse is scheduled to come to the house!!!

All because one of St. Mary's Nurse's, named Francis Cassidy, rescinded the doctor's orders based on the patient's statement that he didn't need the care. Can I add that his records show that he has dementia as well as being 86.

Hospital staff has admitted to me that there is no excuse that I wasn't called as I am the contact person.....

Just find another hospital. That is my advice. Barbara Behrens, attorney.

I was hospitalized for 21 days in this facility. Gave birth to my son at 27 weeks and 2 days. All of the nurses and Drs were very nice and answered all my questions. I was attended to in a timely manner and the nurses and drs closely monitored me. My son and I are alive because of them. These drs and nurses do not have easy jobs and I'm glad we have dedicated professionals like them to be there when you need them. My room was always kept clean, the food was great. All the departments I dealt with were wonderful..radiology, ultrasound, lab, lactation specialists, activities, cardiology and more. I can honestly say I do not have even 1 thing to complain about.

Seems like these days Emergency Rooms treat you like a dope addicted bum no matter how much class you have. I wouldn't take pain medication even if they gave it to me cause I believe in natural resources but they act like everything can be cured in time. Your telling me I wasted my time coming in here Doc?? It will heal on its own. My arm has been numb for 2 days and it was always in Gods hands. No scans of any sort?? I thought they want to make sure my blood flow was ok. Once again getting told I shoulda stayed home. Called off work and rested. I hope he is right.

Found out I have Carpal tunnel...from a better doctor!!

Registration ladies was nice.
Vitals people was great.

My Mother-In-Law (93 years old) fell at home and was taken tom the Hospital by ambulance. She was admitted via the emergency room and was treated lik e a queen. They worked with her in Rehab and got her walking and also provided information about an emergency call button she could buy to summon help quickly. Just want to say thanks for the love and care she received

Best hospital I've been to (so far). I had surgery in February of 2016, and my surgeon was Dr. Schwartz. The food was good, and the care made me not want to leave. A week or so later I get a signed get well card from all the people who took care of me! I don't know of many hospitals who do that. They are very lgbtq friendly in my experience.

realizes that interfering with another's civil rights is a violation that creates an action for injury, but before you can protect your civil rights, you must recognize and know what they are. However, articulating an exact definition of civil rights can be difficult to pinpoint because it is a very broad set of laws. Civil rights are an expansive and significant set of rights that are designed to protect individuals from unfair treatment;

I love St.Mary's....every nurse I have had was awesome! I've had all three of my children here and each experience was great. I think I'm finished having children but I would definitely recommend this hospital.
