About Spring mountain vineyard
Spring Mountain Vineyard: A Napa Valley Gem
Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Spring Mountain Vineyard is a privately owned estate that boasts four historic vineyards. The vineyards were first planted to vines in the late 1800s and have since been producing some of the finest wines in the region. The estate is known for its commitment to producing only estate bottled wines, which are a true reflection of the terroir and unique characteristics of each vineyard.
The History
The history of Spring Mountain Vineyard dates back to 1873 when Charles Lemme purchased 845 acres on Spring Mountain. He planted vines on his property and began producing wine under his own label. In 1891, Lemme sold his property to Tiburcio Parrott, who continued to produce wine until Prohibition forced him out of business.
In 1941, Fredrick and Eleanor McCrea purchased the property and began restoring it. They replanted vines on their land and built a winery that still stands today. In 1990, Jacob Safra acquired Spring Mountain Vineyard from the McCrea family and has since invested heavily in modernizing its facilities while preserving its rich history.
The Terroir
Spring Mountain Vineyard's unique terroir is what sets it apart from other wineries in Napa Valley. The estate sits at an elevation ranging from 400 feet to over 1,600 feet above sea level with steep slopes that provide excellent drainage for its soils. The soils are composed mainly of volcanic ash mixed with sedimentary rock which gives their wines a distinct minerality.
The Wines
Spring Mountain Vineyard produces a range of premium wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc among others. All their wines are made using traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern technology resulting in exceptional quality.
Their flagship wine is Elivette - named after Eleanor McCrea - which is a blend made from grapes grown across all four vineyards on the estate. It's aged for up to two years before being released making it one of their most sought-after wines.
