Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
75205, United States
Amazing campus and buildings. The school needs to spend more time, and money improving its academic standing nationally, increasing media coverage, and developing support from a larger part of Dallas's population - this isn't the "hometown team".
SMU's football team is really a tragic story. It still haunts what would otherwise be a powerhouse school, and the campus suffers for it.
The MBA programs are among the best in the country, a large supply of graduate, doctoral, and law offerings round out healthy graduate offerings.
Beautiful campus. They are building another parking garage to accommodate the ever growing parking situation. If you're in a parking fiasco park across the freeway at the Mockingbird station and walk to your sporting event.
One of the most beautiful universities in the United States
The greatest college in Texas history. My boys and I all went here and are very proud to be mustangs!! Very proud of all they have accomplished because of their success at SMU
Pros: Beautiful campus, Great student culture, Variety of educational opportunities (i.e. Double-Majoring)
Con: Very expensive tuition fees
Regularly voted as one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation, it draws visitors from all over the world: George W Bush Presidential Library, Competitive Dance programs, World renowned engineering, and athletics program with storied past. Come by and see Dallas Hall.
This campus is beautiful...just happened to stumble upon it while visiting the George W. Bush Library.
SO THEY NEED TO EITHER MAKE THE COLLEGE WALK ONS LESS OR BE A BETTER COLLEGE
Beautiful campus with museums and fantastic school of music among much else!
This campus is very well maintained and you get the traditional feeling of a university in the middle of a large city.If you have the opportunity to attend it is a great university.
Excellent education with an emphasis on small classes taught by professors. Beautiful campus and located in a great city for young people.
Parking place can be improved. But everything else is okay.
After reading the previous post I had to share some insight on my experience with Clerence, the owner of Campus Chefs, a company contracted by SMU. As unfortunate as it sounds, I'm just glad there are others who are willing to shine light on Clerence's poor excuse of a "professional company". His lack of management and treatment of his employees is simply pathetic. This man doesn't know how to take care of his employees let alone run a company. I know he has hard working employees, something I can't say for Clerence. It's frustrating that those who are contracted with him don't see the lies and continuous fraudulent actions this man has made.
Not just a school but definitely an experience. You grow is so many ways and lots of opportunities for getting involved. Small classes and lots of help!!
Some of you woman are well built, and you all get 4/5 because i do not go there .
I took some time to visit the SMU athletics museum.Sure brings back happy memories!
Great college, definitely the school I look forward to going to in 4 years. Beautiful campus and an awesome time I'm looking forward to.
Nice school and great connections with amazing resources. Too expensive for me to attend here though. So many other great schools for cheaper prices across the globe than SMU Nation! Good luck to y all!
Great lookimg campus but the staff and adminstration is bad when it comes to enrollment. I have been trying to enroll in classes for the last 6 months and the samething continues to happen. They put it off until its too latr and classes start. I keep getting told that its a transfer issue so they send to adminstration than they tell me its on the registrars office. Also apparently the G.I Bill doesnt cover all of SMU tuition and either gone have to pay out of pocket or you use the yellow ribbon whatever. Either way its been really annoying dealing with them.
As a proud SMU alum still find great pride in going back to campus. The Mustangs football team is having a great season. Wishing for more continued success for many more years to come. Go Ponys!!!
In general, the main cities are too decadent and dragging their legs.
Judgemental institution that doesn't respect law enforcement and has no respect for the United States of America
As an alum, I can say this is truly the best school in the nation. Professors are from the top schools (Yale, Princton, Harvard, etc). Like any place can get political but make your voice heard. The school is full of conservatives, not liberals. This is a very conservative state in a conservative town that won't be liberalized not matter how many Californians visit. :)
LOVE this school!
As an alumnae and parent of a current student, I cannot recommend this fine institution more highly. (Yes, I am clearly biased.) I did not believe it to be possible, but my wonderful experience at SMU pales in comparison to my daughter's. This university only seems to get better with each passing year.
Standards are set very high at SMU and the resources to achieve them are abundant. True, it is challenging... but extremely rewarding. The facility and staff at SMU are dedicated to each students' success. Graduates leave there well-educated and well-prepared for the real world.
Not to mention the incredible network (ranked second nationally in strength, behind only Harvard). Having SMU on my resume has always opened doors. I have no doubt it will be the same for my daughter.
Beautiful Campus in center of Dallas. Excellent school with incredible connections to last the rest of your life.
Don't know, wasn't there today, but close by. Nice try!
Lying POS professors who teach kids to be communists. That's what you get when you send your children here. Here is the kicker, You Pay For It!!!
i am the 16 yr old child of an accounting director and we live 2 houses away from smu so i experience everything smu does from Tate lecture series' event (really good) to football games to graduation etc. and i have to say i love this campus, random students are nice to my brothers and i. the blvd before an smu football game is differently the place to be before a football game and also to experience smu tradition at its best and its fun atmosphere. i recommend it from my aspect but i have no idea about much else (degree wise) other than my brother is doing his undergrad schooling there in the honor system of the business school
If you can afford to attend a small private university, Southern Methodist University should be on your list of places to consider. The campus itself is beautiful with well-manicured landscaping. It's worth a night-time visit just to see the downtown Dallas skyline from the campus. The faculty is top caliber. However, this is not the place to go if you're on a limited budget, i.e. there's unlikely to be a positive return on your investment in the tuition if you have to borrow most of the funds to attend as student loans.
SMU is a brand!
Opened in 1915
234 Acres campus
11k students
300k visitors
Sponsors for 17 sports
119k alumni globally
780k visitors for Bush museum
Love that my daughter is going here and studying to be a nurse. I could not be happier with the support she is getting and the safety she feels on campus.
I am a second generation student here, and I absolutely love it! SMU is a world class university!
Class of 1981 and SMU is working hard to improve it's local (all of Dallas) footprint - not just north Dallas - the new logo is awesome
High expectations, great opportunities, beautiful campus, brilliant professors! LOVE SMU! Pony Up!
I smell money here. Everywhere. The facility is nice, dorm is pretty good, and cafeteria food is awesome.
Just one thing. The campus bookstore is facing in the big street, sometime undesirable people hang out around there.
This University is an embarrassment! What a sad community. Removal of any American flag where my tax money is shared is not a place where any of my family or friends belong. UNAMERICAN!!!!
SMU has a beautiful campus, and students here have the opportunity to earn fairly decent jobs. BUT, the school and its administration does not care about it's current students at all. They are entirely focused on the next batch of paying students, while neglecting the needs of the current students. No matter what you do if you end up attending school here, DO NOT listen to the academic advisers. They commonly mislead students into taking additional coursework they do not need in order to extend their time at SMU and earn more money. They also do not offer the classes needed to finish the program you're in each semester, but will not advise you to take them while you can. Instead, they advise you to take other classes. Additionally, the financial office is consistently incompetent, and often "accidentally" charge students with misc fee's, and then make you argue for months to repeal them. The whole point of attending a private school is smaller class sizes and an administration that cares about the individual students. The administration would rather water the grass than hire a decent professor who actually knows what they're talking about (I often have to correct my professors based on what I was taught in the real finance world (at JP Morgan))
It's the perfect place for preppy, basic, spoiled, upper class kids who are obsessed with Greek life. If you want any kind of open mindedness, diversity, kindness or a sense of community within a university, turn and run as fast as you can. I'm counting down the days until I graduate and I hope you don't make the same mistake I did by choosing to come here. While we do have one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever seen, that alone is not enough to make up for their blatant lack of respect for students. All they care about is getting the next batch of paying students in so they can continue building bigger and better structures to attract more paying customers with no regard to current students or their needs. This self fulfilling cycle of pessimism and greed will drive this school to the ground one day. At least I hope so.
I really don't appreciate this Clarence Boyd screwing over a good friend of mine that worked for him. He really thinks he can get away taking taxes out of employees checks and not reporting the income of employees. I want the IRS TO RIP CAMPUS CHEFS APART AND SMU YOU NEED TO OUST THIS CROOK.
This is one of the most outrageous colleges I've ever seen. They would not put up american flags for 9/11 because they felt that some of their students might feel, and I quote, "harrassed" by them. You can't make this up. The Nation suffered a tremendous loss that day and this school doesn't even have the patriotism or respect to remember those thousands of people that were murdered that day? Your ignorant students are offended? Well this school has offended me, and the rest of the sane American people as well. As I'm looking for a college I surely will NOT be looking at this school, and I WILL definitely guide my peers to not choose this university as well.
Beautiful campus! Especially meadows school of arts architecture. Also George Bush library was just around the corner.
Southern Methodist University s recent decision to relocate a memorial to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks over concerns students might be triggered caused outrage across the fruited plain. College students do not have a constitutional right not to be offended. Shame on SMU for coddling these snowflakes (university students). SMU upper echelon administrators =leftist idiots.
Really need to be happy tommorow as well I have to be happy and follow the link and it I have can be more a little better than and you can it for a while if you're not a fan of it was yesterday and it was the hardest thing I could do with to make it get better and better for the 100th time I think it
I graduated a couple of years ago. I loved what the school had to offer, but as an intellectual who loves meeting various new people, it was hard for me socially. The school provides a good education in whatever your major is. I was disappointed in the classes for non-majors, though. Make sure you meet students in the program's you're interested in because each program is different.
The campus is gorgeous. Good amenities. A plethora of resources -- it's even pretty easy to win a scholarship or grant to fund a project you may be working on. Even I, a student with a 2.0 gpa at the time (I should have dropped a few classes and changed my major to something I really loved but that's another story) was able to get funding for my projects just by being able to propose a well presented idea.
Lots of opportunities at this school to create a movement, project, invention, masterpiece or stake your own claim to fame.
The other students you encounter fall into the trap of trying to impress the dallas and California born blue bloods (aka rich kids who never learned how to do their own laundry until first day of school -- until they figure out there is a laundry service on campus). You have to make an effort to find a variety of students.
You need to choose the right major for you, interact with the art students, join organizations you can learn from and care about and try to befriend your professors and teachers aides as they can become life long friendships.
This school has a ton of opportunities. Make use of it. Make as much effort as you can to surround yourself with positive people of all walks of life and ages. This school can either break your bank or make you into a young adult with command, charisma, intellect and influence. :)
The best school -- anti-guns, safe, sophisticated, and anti-flag-waving-manic! the perfect place to spend my hard earned money.
Best University Campus, Institute, Sports Arena, Facilities in Dallas! I have ever seen!
Taking away the 9/11 memorial?! What a disgrace of a university...
Psychology instructor Berry stated she didn't like me and I should quit. (I was oldest student in class). It cost me $1500.
Beautifl and nice campus with good teachers (i was lucky enough to attend some courses there).. and u would love walking arround the campus it's clean, quit and beautiful
