South Essex Community Council: Helping People, Improving Lives
South Essex Community Council (SECC) is a non-profit organization that provides community services to the residents of South Essex. Our mission is to help people and improve lives by offering a wide range of programs and services that cater to the needs of individuals 55+, persons with disabilities, newcomers to Canada, job seekers, employers, and children & youth.
At SECC, we believe in creating a strong sense of community by providing support and resources for those who need it most. We understand that everyone has unique needs and challenges, which is why we offer personalized services that are tailored to each individual's situation.
Our programs for individuals 55+ include social activities such as bingo nights and card games as well as educational workshops on topics like health care planning and financial management. We also provide transportation services for seniors who have difficulty getting around.
For persons with disabilities, we offer employment support services such as job coaching and resume writing assistance. We also provide accessibility assessments for businesses so they can ensure their facilities are accessible to all customers.
Newcomers to Canada can benefit from our settlement services which include language classes, cultural orientation sessions, employment counseling, housing assistance and more. Our goal is to help newcomers integrate into Canadian society smoothly.
Job seekers can take advantage of our employment resource centre where they can access job postings from local employers or receive one-on-one career counseling from our experienced staff members. Employers can also benefit from our recruitment services which help them find qualified candidates for their open positions.
Children & Youth programs at SECC include after-school activities such as homework clubs or sports teams as well as summer camps where kids can learn new skills while having fun in a safe environment.
In addition to these core programs/services mentioned above SECC offers other valuable resources including:
- Volunteer opportunities: Volunteers play an important role in helping us deliver quality programming/services.
- Housing Support Services: We provide assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing housing instability or homelessness.
- Food Bank: We operate a food bank that provides emergency food assistance to those in need.
At SECC, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those we serve. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that our programs and services meet the needs of our community. We believe that by working together, we can create a stronger, more vibrant South Essex for everyone.
