South Athens Animal Clinic Review

Took our cat here under unfortunate circumstances 15 minutes before they close. We thought he was maybe choking, they met us at the door and rushed him in to the vet. After trying everything, they could not save him, not knowing what caused his death. The vet was then so kind to take some x-rays to try to figure out what had happened. Turns out he had a very enlarged heart, likely tied to some disease, and suffered heart failure. While he was probably gone before he made it inside, they did all they could, and then some in effort to comfort us and explain what happened. There's nothing we nor they could've done once heart failure began but I could not have asked for more, especially as they handed him over to us and said "go home, there's no charge today." Wish there were more businesses like this. We'll be taking our pupper here in the future. Good people.

We have been bringing our cats to South Athens Animal Clinic since we moved to Athens 14 years ago. They have ALWAYS gone above and beyond in caring for our friends, but our most recent experience exemplifies the compassion and skill that the doctors and staff at South Athens Animal Clinic are known for. Dr. Singh worked tirelessly over the course of the last year to treat our cat Dinosaur's excessive drooling. Unfortunately, it turned out that Dinosaur's drooling was due to cancer, and not a resolvable condition. Dr. Singh and the staff did everything in their power to make Dinosaur as comfortable as possible during his decline. When the time came for Dinosaur to pass on, they made the experience as peaceful and full of love as it could be. I was overwhelmed with the caring and support that was shown to us. I will never take our friends anywhere but South Athens Animal Clinic for their veterinary care!

I have been with South Athens Animal Clinic for almost 2 years now and I will be with them for years to come. They treat my animals with more care and compassion than any other clinic i have been to. Amazing staff and amazing family!

Taking care of pets gets expensive. But when i take my pets here i get my money's worth. They truly care about my animals like I do.

We were referred to South Athens Animal Clinic for specialty services. Anxious about the symptoms our cat was presenting, as well as about finding practitioners who would tend to Zooey with the care and compassion everyone hopes for, we were given an appointment to see Dr. Mosher less than 24 hours after calling. We saw Dr. Mosher, who almost immediately asked if we d be comfortable with a consult with Dr. Singh, the cat expert, who saw us within minutes. Any reservations we d had around care and competence were immediately dispelled by their thorough and generous ministrations to our girl. After Dr. Singh explained her proposed treatment plan, Zooey was prepped for immediate intervention, and we were kept informed about the process and findings. Dr. Singh kept us close throughout the workup, reviewed her findings in detail, and explained her intent to further consult with a radiologist of some stature, just to be sure about her impressions. We were surprised to find the cost for this level of attention was surprisingly nominal. At no point did we feel less than 100% companioned in our desire for the best possible care, and found ourselves sharing mutual relief that we d found a place of extraordinary compassion and professional competence. Subsequent visits have been equally fine, always dialogical, always welcoming, and informative. We re confident we ve arrived at the best possible circumstance for our cat s care. Thank you, Dr. Singh, Hannah, Jennifer, Leila, Erica and all the competent and compassionate staff.

Very friendly staff. Super loving and caring to our pups. The vets are very kind, knowledgeable, and easy to work with.

Love this place. This is the first clinic I took my rescue to and Dr.Singh has always treated him so gently and with compassion and understanding. I am SO grateful for her and the staff here. He didn't have such a good life before I adopted him and has trouble trusting humans. I'm so happy with how they treat him and how patient they are with his anxiety. I couldn't ask for better people to help my baby boy.

The Good: Initially, I was able to get an appointment easily and immediately, the doctors and staff are knowledgeable, the extended hours of operation are great for people who work 8-5, and the prices are VERY reasonable. Affordability and hours of operation are the major "pros" of this clinic.

The Bad: It was exceptionally difficult to get an update on the status of an inpatient animal. I tried for over an hour to get someone on the phone and was put on a long hold every time I called. Additionally, I tried to schedule the follow-up appointment they recommended at the time I picked my animal up to bring him home, and was told to call back later to schedule follow-up. They would not let me schedule the appointment at checkout, and when I DID call back to schedule the follow-up appointment, I was told that they fill up a week in advance and that I should have scheduled the follow-up appointment at checkout when I picked my animal up to bring him home...which is exactly what I tried to do, but for whatever reason, they would not allow.

In synopsis, knowledgeable doctors, knowledgeable staff, excellent prices, great hours of operation, but very, very poor communication and overall organizational skills. The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. Trying to do what the doctor recommended (schedule a follow-up appointment) while not being permitted by the staff to do so, only to be later told by the staff that you should have done precisely what you tried to do (but they refused to allow) was rather frustrating.

I would have liked to have given this vet a 5 star rating, but unfortunately, due to the issues I experienced with communication and trying to schedule a follow-up appointment, I can't go any higher than three stars for this one.

It's a shame my first visit went the way it did, really. I have a cat, a dog, a rabbit, and several birds. I'd have been a good client to have kept.

Edit: After giving this more thought, I'm going to have to change my three star rating to a two star rating, based on the fact that this vet only gave me enough medication for my cat to last him until the follow-up appointment that they wouldn't let me make, so now, I'm going to have to taper off and discontinue his meds before he's well, at least until I can find another vet who will let me make an appointment.

If you care about your pet, don't bring it here.

South Athens Animal Clinic is sincerely the best vet in Athens - and actually the best vet I've been to in 4 states. They are completely thorough with your pet exams and explain everything in detail - I never feel like I'm unsure of what's going on or feel like they didn't do enough (which I have other places). They have wonderful bedside manner with my dogs... and me. Their staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, they are also willing to work with long term clients as far as payments, should you be in a bind - which I have been. They also will suggest a decent home/over the counter remedy if possible, before I run my dog in and they've always been on point and saved me some money. Plus their prices are considerably more affordable than any vet in Athens. Even their prescription meds are considerably cheaper than online pet med carriers.
My eldest dog who is 15 has been suffering from some chronic allergies that have plagued him for years. Other vets had me spinning my wheels and spending money on special tests and exams that were unnecessary. I brought my pup in there and they came up with a complete game plan to help him. Dr. Mosher even called me at 7 pm one night to make sure that I understood the plan and came up with something cost effective for me. It has worked wonders. He's bright, healthy, and happy now.
Years ago, I was dog sitting for a friend who was out of the country and her dog came down with a horrible ear infection. Dr. Nemitz sent my friend a detailed email with information about what was going on with her dog (as she had limited access to a phone) and gave her his personal cell phone should she have questions. They really care and it shows. I can't tell you how grateful I am to have such a wonderful team of experts helping my little dogs - who are my everything.

Love the doctors and staff at South Athens Animal Clinic. We get in and out very quickly.

Great staffs but somewhat way too much expensive for my kitten s cold.

Very pleased that I found these vets! My boy had an aural haematoma (i.e. a blood-filled lump in his ear), and I went to two other vets for treatment options. The first one said the only option was inserting a teat cannula to drain the blood over the course of 3-4 weeks. The other said that the only option was surgery to cut away a piece of the ear, then stitch it back up! I knew this was not the case as I work with animals (birds and wildlife), and suggested a partial drain with a course of steroids. Both vets said it wouldn't work. However, I came here to South Athens Animal Clinic, and this exact treatment plan was recommended before I even said anything! My dog was relaxed around the vets and vet nurses, and enjoyed getting treats and attention- his ear healed beautifully, with no need for surgery, stitches etc. Highly recommended.

BEST VET IN ATHENS!!! Dr. Singh and the entire staff at South Athens Animal Clinic were so knowledgeable and compassionate when my kitten became sick. Dr. Singh and the staff updated me while we awaited test results to determine my kitten's illness and they cared for him as if he was their own! When he was extremely ill, they arranged for me to drop him off on my way to work and pick him up on my way home so they could give him IVs during the day and ensure he received round the clock care. Every single person I encountered was so kind, patient and genuinely cared so much about the kitten and his health. My kitten is healthy and thriving now - I owe his life to South Athens Animal Clinic! You will not find a better vet!

Dog needed a molar extraction only and the office demanded to do a full dental prophy even though the dog did not need it at all. So my bill was $$$. Also my dog did not even greet me when she was brought out afterwards, she just dragged me out of the office. She wasn't happy with them either. The actual extraction was fine.

Drs. Mosher and Nemetz are wonderful vets, and with their techs go above and beyond. They truly treat your animals as though they were treating their own. (If only human health care was this compassionate and detailed.) Our experience is quick diagnostics and treatment and affordable pricing. They'll literally draw out and explain things on a white board for you. I can't recommend them enough.

I have been to vets in Georgia and Virginia for over 40 years with several dogs. In my experience, Dr Mosher and South Athens Animal Clinic are the best. A calm, pleasant, competent and compassionate place centered on the pet and pet owner. Very good communication - nothing rushed.

I have been a client here for over 20 years. My many animals have always received the best, most knowledgeable care available here, and it is true, they really care!

I have been to multiple vets in numerous states, and this is one of the best. Scheduling was easy, and I've never seen a better bedside manner. Dr. Nemetz and his team clearly have a deep love of animals and extensive knowledge and experience. Bella and I thank them for their top-notch care!

I recently had a very sick dog Max, and I was not expecting it to be as bad as it was, but Dr. Mosher helped me and my husband through the whole process. My dog had never stayed at the vets overnight and I didn't think he would survive 5 days at the vets. Dr. Mosher was so accommodating he made himself available anytime I had any questions, and Jennifer his tech showed us how to treat our dog at home. When the time came that we had to put Max down, Dr. Mosher went above and beyond any vet I have ever dealt with in the past. His commitment to take such good care of everyone's pets and help the owners get through tough situations is amazing! I couldn't begin to thank him or his staff for giving us some extra time to spend with Max. Thank you Dr Mosher for everything you did for us. Donna

First time using this vet for my 12-year-old Papillion. I was so impressed and blown away by how thorough and knowledgeable Dr. Mosher was. He answered all my questions and explained everything thoroughly to me. As my beloved dog is experiencing geriatric issues, it was a relief for me to be able to ask questions and have them answered In depth and not feel rushed. That is paramount! The ladies also trimmed my little dogs nails so nicely. I m really a stickler for detail LOL and they did a fantastic job!

I love South Athens! Everyone on the staff was very nice and informative. Check in was easy and efficient. I had scheduled an appointment with a tech but I was able to see not only one but two vets! Dr. Mosher and Dr. Nemetz were both extremely nice and were able to clearly explain any questions I had. Everyone I spoke to understood that because I am a student, I am on a budget so no one made me feel uncomfortable about asking about cheaper options. That being said, all of the services offered are very affordable. When I needed to schedule a surgical procedure for one of my dogs, they were able to schedule an appointment only two days later. My dogs and I will definitely be coming back in the future!

Great vet clinic with competitive pricing. They utilize online pharmacy services (chewy & another) to assist with convenient ordering. Provide an itemized list reciept so you know exactly what you're paying for. Their COVID-19 regulations were easily adaptable. Unlike some vets, they don't push brands but rather medical recommendations. They are very good about explaining misconceptions and holis
tic approaches.

Staff is always nice! Doctors are great and everyone really cares about your pets.

The staff is extreamly helpful and really cares for you and your pets. I called them after my pets got into a bag of trash and we went through all the items and checked to see if any of the items might be toxic. The next day the staff called me to check in on my pets to make sure they were alright. They go above and beyond the call of duty. I fully endorse them!

I'm happy with the service and the friendly staff. However they are on the pricey side for service.

My cat broke a tooth and I had to get her in to get x-rays and have six extractions. Many clinics were booked a month out. I was able to get an appointment a week out. The tech at check in was very friendly. Dr. SIngh called me twice (as she told me she would) to tell me what x-rays found and then after the 4 hour surgery. I was informed of everything. My cat was allowed to stay overnight which was helpful to the start of her recovery.
When I picked her up, (this is what lost the last star)... the office manager was my check out person. Not very friendly. I asked questions and it appeared I was bothering her by asking. Then when I asked about a payment plan, since my bill was $995.00 she stated several times, "This is only for established patients." I then asked more questions about it and she was reluctant to give me any details. I have two other cats that I was contemplating bringing to this vet, but if I am not allowed to even know what the payment plan entails, I might have to go elsewhere. Why is that such a big deal to tell me?
Then when I asked questions about the surgery she went and got some papers. When she came back out she said, the doctor is dealing with sick animals and can't talk to you. Ok, so I am spending $995 but my cat wasn't sick?! Better customer service would have been nice. I never asked to speak to the doctor anyways, I just asked for information (paper or verbal).

South Athens , particularly Pattie, Drs. Mosher and Nemitz have taken care of my many animals for 20 years. They are curious, knowledgeable, kind and generous. They have extensive referral sources when a pet needs more than they can provide there. The new Drs., Stout and Sign are up to the standards set by Mosher and Nemitz. I feel good knowing my pets are well cared for at South Athens.

Wonderful vet & staff... worked us in that day ...referral from Athens Humane Society... I will be switching all 3 animals here now ... I ve used 4 others in town , they are the best I ve ever had!

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Singh at South Athens Animal Clinic. Upon recommendations from coworkers, I brought my middle-aged cat there for his first dental. Dr. Singh and her technicians were incredibly patient and understanding, despite the fact that (I'll admit) I was being a bit high maintenance. While my cat did need to have a large tooth extracted, Dr. Singh's surgical technique was spot-on, and he healed beautifully. She even tailored his post-op medications to what I was comfortable with. And best of all, everything was very much affordable. A++ Will bring my pets there again.

Dr. Mosher is an incredible vet, and even took the time and spoke to me over the phone when I had a question about my kitten's health. His vet tech was so kind and informative, and they both educated me on what my pet was experiencing and why, and how to help him. Scheduling was also extremely easy and quick. I will only ever take my pets to South Athens Animal Clinic, and I would recommend anyone else to do the same.

What a fantastic animal clinic! I first brought my cat, Romie, here a few months ago and had a great experience. Then today, these wonderful folks fit in my family's cat, Rob, on super short notice so that her eye infection could be addressed as soon as possible. Rob is a very anxious cat, requiring lots of patience and care when she is handled. Dr. Mosher and the rest of the staff were all so kind and patient with her, and thoroughly answered my plethora of questions. I can breathe easier knowing that my kitties' health is addressed by compassionate professionals with genuine concern for the animals in their care.

Our pets become apart of the family and we always want the best for them. Whether healthy or sick, this is the place to take them. I needed some urgent help for my cat (1yr old) who was having some serious issues. When other animal clinics were full, South Athens opened a spot up for us. Both Dr. Singh and Dr. Mosher are some incredible vets and they will personally handle every case with care and compassion. Even for this difficult case, their efforts put her on the road to recovery and she is back to her playful self. I can't thank them enough along with all of the staff who are just as friendly and helpful. I will always be taking my pets here and I'd recommend this place for ANY pet owners!

Our family has used the services of South Athens Animal Clinic since we moved here in 2000. During that time we have had everything from yearly visits, to teeth cleaning, to euthanasia after an agressive brain tumor, and then our new addition"s first check up and yearly visits. The doctors and staff are skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate and patient. They always take extra time to answer questions and explain in a way that we will know and understand the medical and emotional issues to make the right decisions for our family members. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

Everyone here is helpful and concerned. Many have been with the practice for several years. The doctors are compassionate and obviously care deeply for their patients and companion humans.

The facilities are clean and in good repair. The waiting area is obviously designed for animals and people - simply furnished with plenty of room. I especially like the display case that holds historical equipment and information about the lineage of the long line of veterinarians, whose dedication inspired the SAAC.

Dr Mosher is the best. Staff is friendly and helpful.

We have been going to this clinic for over 10 years. I trust them with all of my pets.
