Found this restaurant whilst trying to find something different for my husband's birthday. This did not disappoint.
It was a Sunday 5pm and the Bears were playing, which we assumed was the reason only we were in the restaurant. The staff were very attentive, the Chef came out to give recommendations, and I wondered if it was because we were the only patrons, but when others arrived it was obvious that this was the normal business operations. The chef's wife runs front of house and the waiter showed that he loved his job and the chef's cooking, with lots of recommendations. Honestly, I think you could order anything on that menu, and it will be delicious!
We started with a mango margarita, passionfruit margarita and hubby had Mezcalli Rita, soon ordering another after drinking the first! The fruity ones are sweet, which is perfect for me, but may be a bit much for others.
We ordered the ceviche, do not miss out on this! The level of flavors is outstanding and one by one from the sweetness of the fish through to the heat at the end was divine. We also shared the sopes surdito. They were all stunning, but my faves were the plantain and the chicken mole. Each dish was served up beautifully.
For mains I ordered the duck, cooked to perfection and the mole, wow! It had homemade chorizo, which I loved! The depth of that dish was sublime. Hubby ordered the lamb which had the negro mole, he mopped up every ounce with the light homemade tortillas provided.
The show stealer was the molcajete surtido. It turned up on the table bubbling and steaming away. The rich broth and chicken, fish and veggies were amazing.
Hubby insisted on a dessert, so we shared the crepes with goat milk caramel and caramelized plantain. it was yummy but after one bite I was done! I couldn't eat another thing!
As you can tell, we went all in! The crazy thing was when we got the bill it was $190. For this level of food and service it was a steal.
We will definitely be back!
