So disappointed by the escalating dining noises, crowded tables, several staff bumping into our seats. Overpriced smaller dishes and left feeling hungry.
Best to avoid the weekends. Asked for pleasant dining experiences but that just did not occur.

Sokyo s sexy ambiance and delicious food never fails to impress. You ll definitely need to book a table. For two we like to sit in the lounge area. Spacious and comfortable you can relax to lounge house tunes, enjoying the best Japanese cuisine and creative cocktails. This is one of our top 5 restaurants in Sydney.

Sokyo has a very trendy vibe. Friday night and the DJ is turning beats and there is low light over the bar. They are very popular, and we get in for their last seating of the night. The menu is extensive, and we were offered some good suggestions with the sashimi platter and the tuna crunchy roll. For me there was just something small lacking.

A great place to have some cocktails prior to dinner. The bar is quite small, but very cosy.
Cocktails are quite expensive but they have a very large variety. There is bar for available, but best to eat at the restaurant itself.
Staff serve you right where you sit, so can pay the bill at the end.

Magnificent food, particularly beautiful decoration on each plate. I have to say the table service was a bit of disappointing. No oshibori (towels) until we asked while we were earting spicy Edamame. (My fingers were soked with spice powder and oil.) One waitress didn't explain if Tuna Tataki had Ponzu sauce on top or not. When I asked her she didn't bother explaining. Instead, she poured soy sauce on the little plate in a rude way and walked away.

The cocktail bar is amazing, the service beyond excellent. At the bar, high distinction to the bartenders Hugo, Suryan and Adriano who were personable and made us beautiful drinks. On the floor, couldn t recommend more to meet Johanna and Chantal, they will take care of your guests and make sure your experience is great. 5/5

I have been to Sokyo several times and I have never been disappointed! My husband booked this for my birthday this year and again was not disappointed. The sashimi platter was fresh and delicious. The salmon belly nigri was equally as delicious. The dessert was also outstanding! I ordered the chocolate fondant and my husband ordered the goma street - both were delicious. Will definitely return to Sokyo!

First time at Sokyo so hears how it went down, the atmosphere had a real positive vibe the waiters really friendly always coming & checking up to see if we were ok, nice set up & good location maybe a little hard to find parking if your not parked in the star parking .. ok so the food I could honestly rate the tempura a 10/10 best tempura I have ever had !
The sushi & waygu were a let down as my expectations were they should be a 10 but rather a 8 overall the whole experience was worth it yes I will be back again to try the different variety that s on the menu ! Thank you

What I expect from this high-end sushi restaurant ...

What I expect from this high-end sushi restaurant is amazing service, precision and bold flavours, and I received all that. The precision from the food is amazing. Everything from the plating to the cuts are so clean. The highlights for me are the Sokyo Omelette and the DengakuMan. The omelette was so soft and sweet, it was almost a cake. And the DengakuMan was packed full of flavour.

The service was very attentive as you would expect from such a restaurant and the mood is dark and seductive. I think this would make a great date venue. Just don't look at the prices because you might faint.

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Atmosphere: 4/5
Value: 3/5
Visit again: Special occasions only,
Try these: Sokyo Omelette, DengakuMan

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!
Me and my wife came to sokyo for an after party, just to enjoy a bit of Sokyo's vibe on Saturday Night. We came in very late but finally got seated.

We have dined in at Kiyomi, Gold Coast and loved everything from food TO service, and this was our primary reason why we wanted to come experience what sokyo has to offer.
Food is surely unbeatable in these two high-end restaurants, but Sokyo pushed the bar of service to NEXT LEVEL.

Adam was our server for the night and his personality and confidence made us connect to him in less than 5 minutes of him approaching us!! We saw a genuine work ethic in him, And all I can say, This is one of the most UNUSUAL thing to happen!

For drinks, I loved passionfruit pennicilin cocktail , not overpowering but a perfect blend of flavours for those who like refreshing drinks.
Adam even arranged an anniversary surprise for us, and it finally was a memorable night for us. Highly commendable work Sokyo!

THANK YOU SOKYO and ADAM!!!

I work at Sokyo Breakfast, this was my first time having lunch there, and it was a very good experience. The staff were attentive and friendly mainly Katharina, Kara and the Manager Liz, the girls were very professional .Even if I was not part of the staff, as a student and passionate about hospitality, I noticed the level of professionalism. Thank you very much girls and the food was also impeccable. recognition is the key!

Absolutely loved our first dinner at Sokyo! We tried the tasting menu, but might be heading back next week for some of our favourites that we'll order a la carte next time. Do yourself a favour and order a serving of the tempura.

So for breakfast, I ordered the eggs and toast. Easy meal, yet they still stuffed it up... the eggs were small and warm, bread was cold, bacon hard and tiny, hash brown wasn t fully cooked and the avocado was half rotten.
Best part of the meal was the Pepe Saya butter!
The fruit salad had 3x 1cm cubes of watermelon, 1x pineapple cube and 1x blueberry.

I also asked for a chai latte as I don t drink coffee, they tried to charge me $6 when a coffee was included and worth $5...the waitress had to ask the manager which of course she approved. I also had to sacrifice my orange juice to get the chai.

Honestly, not the best experience considering how much a room costs per night... sort yourselves out.
McDonald s do a better job.

We loved going to Sokyo for breakfast, the staff was great.
Liz the manageress was a breath of fresh air. She never stopped working,
It was my wife's birthday late November and she presented Shirley with a lovely cake with candles on it. That was really special.
Sokyo is very lucky to have Liz, we hope they appreciate her.
Also a special thank you to Leslie and Bengu for the service they gave us.

We had been hearing many good things for a long ti...

We had been hearing many good things for a long time about Sokyo at the Star, not only their Japanese dinner, but also their buffet breakfast. As we began 2018, we decided it was finally time to visit. Do make sure you book ahead of time as it can be hard to secure a spot.

In attendance were our insta foodie friends and contributor Sakinav and one of the best food bloggers in Sydney: Spooning Australia, as acclaimed by the Good Food Guide. We all met at Sokyo, a modern restaurant with floral displays, neatly set tables and an inviting buffet. The place very much had a hotel feel.

We are all seated, scoped out the offerings on display at the buffet and also perused the menu. We were in two minds regarding out choice for the menu and whether to get al a carte or buffet. $22.50 for a la carte or $28 for buffet. From the ala carte menu are a range of Japanese inspired dishes. However, you can also go for the $38 for an a la carte option, buffet, tea and coffee, that is the choice! What could be better?

All of us ordered something different from the al a carte menu. Whilst we wait for the ala carte dish, we start a conga line back and forth from the buffet, shuffling around like busy little worker ants. Everyone has a hand in arranging food at the table. You d have think there was a small army eating, not just 5.

The coffee then arrived at the table, however, with so many good boutique coffees out there, it was a little bit of a let down that they were using a large commercial brand, but I guess it will appeal to the masses. Be mindful though, some of the drinks cost extra, like the matcha or turmeric lattes.

The buffet was quite simple with a range of cakes some with a hint of Japanese flavour including yuzu or matcha. All very nice and beautifully prepared. There was fruit and yogurt as well as an allotment of beautiful cheese and meat. In typical Asian buffet style, somethings that we always love like some soba noodles, with your choice of toppings. There was also the congee, a savoury rice pudding. With this pudding, were an array of savoury condiments to add flavour, be it fried challots, spring onion, soy sauce, ginger battons or pickled plum.

The buffet was nice but paled in comparison to the a la carte menu. When the food we ordered started to arrive at the table there was much food envy. The match lamington, very Japanese was nicely presented with a yuzu curd and red bean inside. It was extremely beautiful and overall a lovely dish, despite the cake being a little dense.

The Sokyo seafood bowl was not your typical Austalian breakfast. A bowl of rice topped with an assortment of fresh seafood and an onsen egg. It started out a little standard and improved ten fold once all mixed together and flavours combining them together.

The taditional choushoku breakfast was impressive a set including miso soup, rice, fish of the day, edamame, nori, Japanese pickle and onsen tomago.

The star of the day, at the Star on this occasion appeared to be the spicy salmon udon ordered by Spooning.

As a whole, the breakfast at Sokyo was very enjoyable. The price is reasonable and the service is very good. Combining the a la carte and buffet options together is thoroughly recommended.

My friend celebrated her hens night here. We had such a great night with lots of tasty food, great services. It's always a busy place even on weekdays. It's a fine dining restaurant so of course it's pricey.

Always great service and delicious meals.
Lucky enough to start the new year with a wholesome breakfast!

Ordered the Seafood bowl and crab omelette coupled with a buffet.

Matcha and green bean cronut and fresh orange juice was my favourite.

Only downside was the wait time. We arrived to be told there were 10 tables ahead of us but it was well worth the wait and the staff were amazing.

Sashimi is definitely the stand out with contemporary flavour combinations which depart from traditional Japanese fare. A high price point but a cool ambience, great food and not your everyday Japanese restaurant.

High end Japanese cuisine with an interesting Sydney fusion with fresh seafood and local flavours. The beef yakitori, spicy tuna roll and mochi were the highlights. We also got the never ending edamame, which were generous servings. Bookings definitely needed and service was attentive. We will definitely be back but expect to pay for quality!

Exquisite fusion Japanese food in an overly loud (...

Exquisite fusion Japanese food in an overly loud (background club music and loud speaking gamblers) environment made this a jarring (in a good way!) experience.

Comparing to how I see good sushi being made in Tokyo, the sushi didn't seem particularly fresh (pre slicing all the fish in the display rack seems like a terrible idea) and definitely overpriced. I skipped the extravagant Uni-truffle-ootoro-nigiris and went straight for the cooked dishes, and wow! So pleased with my decision.

Note : it was a little weird that being alone, I was seated at the sushi counter, but I ordered not a single piece of sushi :p

King mushrooms were excellently grilled and went well with the accompanying asparagus and soy sauce with a hint of truffle.

The main dish - Mareema Duck Breast, blew me away despite my high expectations. All the Japanese ingredients have a unique twist each! The duck - cooked to a tender pink as usual to Japanese soba dishes, but surprisingly has a most satisfying crispy skin (how?!!?). The umeboshi plum sauce is a sweetened varient with fruity chunks, making this traditional (super sour) Japanese ingredient palatable for the sour-phobic diners out there. Decorative piece of cabbage was fried to taste like Japanese seaweed, and the miso it stood on screamed of plum fragrance which kept my chopsticks returning for yet another dip. Lastly, the seasame sauce on the side, just had to be different too by infusion of mustard, adding a dimension to yet another traditional Japanese flavor.

Calming down, I dug into my massive salad bowl (yea, it was weird they served my salad last..) It was so... Spicy!! So simple, yet so good. Why hasn't anyone in Tokyo thought of doing this yet?!?!

This place is good, so good I've been here many times, including once when I came here two nights in a row! They always have special events like whisky dinners, cocktail dinners, and most recent one I went to was the suntory dinner with matched Japanese whisky menu.
The "normal" menu is also great too, sashimi is fresh and the dishes were good sized servings and yummy. Will definitely be back, again and again.

Breakfast at Sokyo was definitely one of a kind, the first time being exposed to some of their dishes and some unique ingredients as well. As it came with a complimentary stay at The Darling, the breakfast was lovely and we received premium service at each interaction. Makes me wonder what their dinner menus are, looking forward to dining again maybe in the evening.
