Visited the Sacre-Coeur in January 2020 with my two daughters. Lots of steps to climb but well worth it. Lovely view. Gorgeous building inside and out.
Breathtaking, wonderful, amazing.. all Paris right? But Sacre Coeur just has this 'something' different that makes it one of my favorite spots..
Beautiful but very long queues during the day. We gave up, went and had some crepes and a drink then went back at 5.30pm and waited less than 5 minutes. Amazing ceiling over the altar.
Fabulous views over the seemingly flat city.
However, unless you approach by car, the steps up are endless and steep. Be fit or be prepared to get fit. I think we went up steps 4 flights of about 100 each. We came down and went back up about 50 when we went for crepes!
This beautiful hilltop church overlooks the lively city below. The views are stunning and there is always someone playing guitar or singing outside. It isn't dreary like Notre Dame, but a cooler, not Gothic cathedral.
A really big and magnificent Basilica! It's located on top of a small mountain, so you have a panoramic view of the city
This buildiing was erected as a warning for "no more war". It was finished little before 1914. Oh the irony...
You will not regret visiting this area of Paris. The church is massive and you can walk right in. There minimal security, but will check your bag if you have one with you. You are allowed to tour the building even services going on. The area outside is great as it provides fantastic views of Paris. The neighborhood below the church has tons of restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, etc. Also, there is a neighborhood adjacent to the church that is much less busy that also has restaurants and souvenir shops. Also, with a metro ticket you can ride the shuttle up the hill or take the stairs like I did.
An amazing view on top of Paris. The day we went there, people were singing at the guitar and thus made the experience a perfect goodbye of the city. It might be difficult to get on top of the hill, but you can also arrive there with a car
It's a climb to the top, but once you get there the view is spectacular. You can see most of Paris. Then the cathedral is very grand. Bring sunscreen for it gets hot and sunny quick.
very nice temple
easy to reach lication
be prepared to the steps
you can go with funicoular
but if you want to gonto the top of the temple 300 steps awaiting
no entry fee
The church is an emblematic building set on the top of a hill making it even more beautiful. Hundreds of people gather there in the afternoon for the beautiful view of Paris as it gets dark giving it a nice vibe. Even the singer that was performing live making every song sound like reggae with an annoying voice was cool. Don't use the funiculaire as it's 1.9 pp for a 20 sec ride, use the stairs through the park and enjoy the view instead.
For a panoramic view of Paris. Climb the 300 stairs to the dome and enjoy the view
Of course it's beautiful. But, outside it smells of urine and the amount of pan handlers and people trying to scam you is extremely annoying. Not worth it.
I don t even know how to pronounce this place. Anyhow, doesn t matter. I had heard that this iconic white domed church was a great place to get a view of Paris and they sure weren t wrong. The church itself is nice although if you re walking there, prepare to battle some hills. I walked from the nearby Abbesses subway station and it took a good 15 minutes. The view is worth it though. Don t bother trying to look for the Eiffel Tower though, the view is obstructed. The locals and tourists love to gather here for the view so be willing to put up with a crowd
Who likes architecture this place is made for you, it s a wonderful, it s huge....
It is in the top of the city so you re going to have an amazing view of the whole city
This church is a standout spot on the top of Paris. Not only is it beautiful on the inside it s got an awesome view of Paris from the dome. If you pay the few euros to walk to the top you will not be disappointed. The trek is difficult and exhausting. If you have issues with stairs or closed in places then just enjoy the views from the ground. I could sit up top all day and watch the city.
Beautiful cathedral! Attended Sun Mass, the Sisters' voices are angelic
Ok guys.Dont just walk to the top because bus service is available. And I must say if you love hiking then definitely walk another level experience. Back pain then choose the bus or elevator.
Coming to the place Its really really really a nice place. eye catching. Just like Budhha temples in India.but it's not.haha.you can the see the whole city view from here.
Beautiful church, spectacular views of Paris, especially from the walkway around the dome after the climb up the near claustrophobic spiral staircase. I wonder about how it might have been in the days when a candle or torch was the only choice. We were lucky, the cherry trees were beginning to bloom, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the city and a great perspective on the Eiffel Tower.
Well worth the climb to enjoy the architecture and fabulous views of Paris.
Beautiful cathedral; when you enter make sure you walk all the way around it. There are a lot of steps leading up to the main entrance. Also, watch out for the pickpockets.
Very peaceful ... Montmartre nearby is full of people, eateries, lively
Absolutely awe-inspiring architecture both inside and out, sitting upon the highest point in Paris and offering sweeping panoramic views of the city. You're not supposed to take pictures, but we saw plenty of tourists snapping photos as they toured the grandiose structure. It's simply incredible what builders were able to do prior to 20th century technology. There was a short line to enter, but admission was free. Well worth the walk to the top of the hill!
We visited in January and we had pretty good time.
It was a great experience for us to be able to spend some time there and visit the church.
This is my favourite place to go in Paris I couldn't recommend it more! I have to go there every time I go to Paris even if I am there for a couple of days I need to go, it's beautiful, I feel happy when I'm there, you can see the whole of Paris when you walk to the top, if the queue is not to big I recommend you to go inside and have a look at all the different places inside. You can then walk around the left side and see the painters and the montmartre neighbourhood, I'm sure you'll love it!
Usually crowded, but the building is beautiful and located on a hill which makes it a great place to enjoy the view of Paris
The place is beautiful but I had a very bad experience there.
There was a group of people who claimed to be from Ghana waiting right outside the entrance who mobbed us and ended up mugging us in a properly crowded place.
About 4-5 people approched us (group of 3) and we sensed trouble and tried to move away. One of us escaped while 2 of us were caught by hand and pulled aside. Then they forcefully tied a thread on our hands and started demanding money. Acting dumb to not give money didn't help. Finally had to show my wallet and got it emptied by them. Luckily I had only 30 upfront and rest in a hidden bag which they didn't reach to. Also I escaped unharmed since I had other valuables with me as well.
This was right at the entrance of the furnicular and at about 7.30-8pm in the evening. There was no security around eventhough I had seen couple of armed guards patrolling about 200mts away from this place around this cathedral.
After mentioning this episode at a shop nearby, the only reaction we got was that be careful, there might be more people ahead.
In addition to this, when I spoke to friends who've visited Paris, I heard same experiences they had at the same place. So this is the norm here that is for sure.
Hope this helps any one planning to visit here.
Oh, and also the view of the city is amazing here. Evenings look beautiful.
Classic historic architectural Christian religious building with a challenging number of steps to the top, where great views await the energetic.
A must see for any visitor to Paris...
What a view! Nevermind the beautiful basillica and the epic church, the view from this place is stunning. You can out across the whole city and we sat here for ages just in awe!
But turn around and go inside this church and it is just as awe-inspiring. The amazing building lets you wonder at all humanity has accomplished while forcing you to think beyond to the spiritual side. You can't go in here without feeling some kind of holy atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend.
We came not knowing it was so amazing, just thinking it was a cool church, but I would put this on my top 5 'must-sees' on a trip to Paris!
A very beautiful place. Peaceful but crowded. You should definitely Start from here to see Paris panorama and Montmartre
A must see in Paris. One of the best views ever from the top. Cute souvenir shops nearby. Good food, drink, and coffee all around. Go there!
It was beautiful. Just be careful of the locals, they'll force you to tie something on your finger/ hand and when you refuse they'll get a bit aggressive by holding your hand.
It is a beautiful cathedral offering a great view of Paris city. You have to climb a series of steps to the cathedral and there is a metro station at a walkable distance. You can find nice paintings inside. Beware of some people tricking you for collecting money outside the cathedral.
There were lots of possibility to have a drawing of ourselfes or just buy one about anything. I saw very professional artists on this place and they was drawing very fast very good quality pictures.
One of my favorite places in Paris that I had to back again. It is a steep walk up the steps, so use the funlicar if you need to. The views are spectacular, the Church is beautiful and the artistic type of street scene is charming. I would also recommend on your way back to visit Rue de Abssesses (spelling?) on your way back. It is only a couple of streets south of the church. Great shopping and great places to eat. Walk that avenue from Montmarte cemetery to west for about 7-8 blocks to the west. Accessible by the metro to Pigalle or Andvers stations. Enjoy.
Been here in the week end, apart from great of basilica and the history behind it, the path way to the basilica are fully commercial environment that cloud the image of the site as one of the best site to see in Paris!
A bit of a hike uphill for those who struggle walking however, there is a lift pending the direction you take. I found there were a few scammers hanging around down the bottom this was at night but none during the day. Some people using cameras inside which I found to be disrespectful to the service which was on. Beautiful architecture a must see.
So amazing. Had a bit of claustrophobia going down the intense spiral stairways.
Great place for a panoramic view of Paris. On a clear day, at sunset, this is surely a great spot for some breathtaking views!
PS: Also a 15 min walk down to the famous Moulin Rouge might play out well with their 7 pm show starting a little after the sunset.
Huge basilic on the top of Montmatre, with an beautiful Gothic architecture, free to visit and an amazing view of Paris
We only visited the outside. Beware that it is A LOT of steps to the best view of Paris. There were a lot of people selling trinkets and asking for money just for your awareness. The amount of people taking "instagram" photos made my husband and me laugh! We tried... hahaha
beautiful view and church, but be prepared for the tourist crowd. be aware of the pick pockets and the guys trying to "play" with you.
Beautiful spot especially in the evening- bring a bottle of wine and some snacks. For some reason i couldn t find a dingle bottle of wine yo buy on the whole hill. Probably so the restaurants keep the revenue.
