Was absolutely beautiful. We had some great weather. It was also quite busy as they were filming an episode of Madam Secretary. The grounds were well kept. Quite a nice nature walk.

Very pretty. It was SUPER cold, make sure you wear WARM SOCKS and BOOTS..

They need more parking for the amount of people that show up, and there isnt much parking in the neighborhood.

Snug Harbor was a retirement home for poor sailors who had no other place to go. The grounds are really nice. There are a bunch of different themed garden areas and some really great scenery.

Most of the buildings have been repurposed to new things. There's a children's museum, an art academy, a museum to a famous artist, lots of interesting stuff. My only complaint is that there's very little onsite information about the history of Snug harbor itself. There are a couple of small signs in the art museum about the day-to-day lives of the sailors who lived out their last days there but that's it. I think that's a shame.

Went to the Winter Lantern Festival. Loved the displays. Great for families and Instagram. However, I recommend finding a coupon code for the tickets as the exhibit was shorter than anticipated.

Awesome!!! Travel back in time to see how Staten Island and the surrounding areas looked before the Revolutionary War. The serene gardens, amazing natural landscape, and creative space for groups of all ages will leave lasting memories. Truly a hidden gem of Staten Island.

Any free minute try to spend there. I love Chinese garden and rose garden. Spent a couple of hours there last weekend enjoying the warm weather.

An amazing place to visit. We took the free ferry over from Manhattan and then and the S40 that drops you right outside. I would thoroughly recommend visiting the Chinese gardens. Great place for a picnic too!

The place is just nice. We went to the lantern festival on a rainy day and because not all the paths were paved we got very muddy. There aren t many trash cans around that when we got some chocolate while walking we had to keep the package for an hour until we finally got in an area with trash cans. Other than that it s the perfect place to take family and nice pictures!

The former old sailors' home, the first in the United States, founded in the early 19th century and, since 1976, one of the most interesting and diverse of the New York City Parks. Contains museums and cultural spaces, gardens, play areas, and other facilities.

Beautiful display of lights! Not so easy to get there even with Google maps. Parking was free. Price of admission was reasonable. If my wheelchair battery hadn't died, I would of stayed much longer enjoying the display and taking more pictures! Hope they have it again next year!

I came here for the Winter Lantern Festival. The attraction itself was amazing. That being said, the event was completely unorganized & understaffed. They didn't have any lines set up, everyone was standing together waiting to get tickets, people who bought tickets at the event were getting in before the people who had purchased their tickets online, people started screaming & shouting, kids were being pushed, security had no control. They finally started letting people in once they realized the crowd was getting rowdy. Once we got in the experience was much better. Do not wear nice shoes, they will get muddy if you step off the walking path for pictures. The walking path also got slippery from the mud. Glad I got to experience it, but hopefully they work the kinks out.

This is a Zen Oasis in the middle of Staten Island. Who knew it was there! Botantical Gardens, Chinese Gardens, Staten Island Musean, Childrens Museam (which your kids will not want to leave) and more. Take the time to notice each type of tree. They are planted purposefully and each have a name of what they are. I saw one that was just stunning.

I did not notice the pond until I was leaving but had to stop, it had turtles and two type of strange long legged birds. I felt sorry for the birds because they did not seem to have family with them, and I wondered how they would breed and flourish.

I brought a picnic basket (yes a real one) and glad I did because I did not see any food service on site, which fits the atmopshere of being far away from the commercialization of NYC over priced food cards and restaurants. Go, Go! On a nice sunny day, bring comfortable shoes and camera and take your time to relax.

The grounds needs some up keep in areas, and I was surprised there were not more people there, but glad there weren't.

A beautiful display of lantern lights. However, the walking paths should be made wider to accommodate a larger crowd. Amongst the few vendors that they do have, some were a little rough around the edges. Some of the vendor prices were a little over the top. They should also accommodate their clientele with better seating. Relief stations on the grounds were a much-needed plus.
