Deputy E Smith was called to my house today, and was the most professional officer of the law I have ever encountered. He made an unpleasant, embarrassing situation bearable. Thank you very much DQ

Great to have a newly elected Sheriff supporting law & order, justice and compassion with so much deep bipartisan support from county residents in Adam Fortney. The previous Sheriff Ty Trenary will be missed also, thanks for the service. The area around the office could us a bit more parking, though.
Blake Watts contacted me on a follow up call, because after 2 emergency calls to 911, and several hours later, no one followed up to this underserved area. He contacted me, and when I expressed my concern for the issues in this particular area, I was hung up on. Wavy to serve your community Officer. Badge #1683.
Can't even do a welfare check on a 72yo man with dementia after 5 days. How useless can you be? Yes we filed a complaint. I lived there for decades and all you care about is writing tickets.
When a problem is handled well, there will always be problems, that's how we'll fix the relationship between law enforcement and community.
That said, I had a problem. When I complained, I was told they'd take care of it, talk with the deputy, and they don't stand for bad behavior. I didn't have to file a complaint or wait months for an investigation. The deputy may have had a bad day, and just needed accountability. I was relieved that my problem received attention and action. That's all I wanted.
I'm told that Sheriff deputies are often nice to people when enforcing trespassing laws. Homeless people I work with say many Sheriff tell them about resources and homeless addicts are encouraged to get clean. They still must leave the property, that's the law. When people are arrested, they need to be safe, too. Sometimes an arrest is just what a person needs to change their life.
When people and officers are ALL safe, and respected, it builds trust.
