First the bad. So the organization of this place is so under par. A couple of the staff are awesome but some of them could give a rip, and it shows. Don't bother paying for VIP if you're looking for a VIP experience, especially before the show. Nobody seems to know what's going on, the entire operation was running an hour and a half behind when we were there for Theory of a Deadman. Also don't wait until after a show to use the bathroom. Bad idea, I promise.
That being said, it has general admission (floor) and upper level seating. The cool thing about this place is that, I believe since it used to be a theater type venue, the floor is slanted toward the stage. Now, this is awful for a person's back if you're standing for the show, however people in the back can see just as well as people in the front. And if you're in the front, you're literally in arms reach of the performers. Also cool.
They have a great bar, much of what you'd expect, typical prices for downtown. They have outside seating for smoking and enjoying a beverage as well.
I wasn't sure about parking prior so I got in touch via email to ask about that. They were quick to respond and suggest parking ramps. There's literally a ramp connected to Skyway.
So yeah, not a top notch venue but a cheap concert experience and we got to meet the band. I'm thankful to skyway for that opportunity.
I witnessed someone who was unable to function get carried out by friends and taken by the staff to a hospital. Skyway theater and their staff went above and beyond expectations for safety and health of their customers and helped save a life tonight. I also want to commend their friends for being honest about what was going on and giving staff all of the information they need to properly help their friend. I feel safe at skyway. Thank you staff.
Many big artists perform here from the edm community.
The show was pretty good. My buddy enjoyed his birthday, and everyone seemed to have a good time.
Yellow Claw was amazing; great venue staff. Fun place to see shows.
Slanted floors are great for the short people in the back. 18+. Awesome screens on the main stage. Three bars. Always quick entry.
Place can be kind of trashy depending on who's performing, but the drinks are good and the sound system is pretty solid. Also has a lot of different areas to hang out in. I've been here more times than I can count and I've always had a good night.
Great place to be with friends and cherish epic music like real humans.
I love the shows there but could be a little more clean and theres never toilet paper in the bathroom
One of my favorite music venues in Minneapolis. Located right in the heart of down town, they have multiple great stages that tend not to get overcrowded. Mostly, but not exclusively, hosts more electronic music.
Small and run down, feels like the place is weeks away from being condemned. Sound system was tuned decently, though, and that's remarkable.
Angled floor makes for good viewing if you're short...Great P.A.
Venue is always good just as well as the sound systems.
Ramped floor makes it easy to see the show from any point on the floor
I guess it used to be a movie theatre and they removed the seats in the place. Great views everywhere, small and intimate
Love this place. Favorite place to see a show. Staff are always helpful. Their facebook page is amazing as well. Greatvvariett of shows
Always a great venue for concerts! Not a bad seat in the house!
Always leaves with a sore neck. 10/10 would do again.
It's a decent venue to see a show, they have made a lot of improvements since they first opened and it's improved the whole vibe of the place. They mainly do dj type stuff and metal music in the side room, studio b.
Saw King Buffalo and The Sword here back in April. It was a pretty cool show, and all the house-side work was great in terms of what was happening on stage and through the speakers.
The venue itself was a little off-putting. Didn't feel very clean, and for some reason an entire upper section of seating was closed. Maybe the shoe didn't sell e ough tickets or something? But a place to sit with a good view of the stage would have been really nice.
I'd go back here again if a band I really liked was playing. The most important part of the show (audio) was still delivered pretty well, even if the atmosphere wasn't vibing for me.
It's ok.kinda dirty though. Used to be a large scale movie theater. With several theaters inside. Now it's the skyway and the loft. I believe.
The bar tenders skimp you put on drinks. They told us 6$ and charged us 8$. There is no alcohol in the drinks. Absolutely ridiculous.
Extremely good venue for show. Slightly slanted floor helps people get a better view, very short person friendly! Good setup, good drinks at a good price.
Went for concert last weekend. Please was very hot (no A/C) and not very clean. Service at the bar was awful to say the least.
Your experience will usually depend on the performer and what kind of people they bring. Grimy artists bring grimy show goers. My favorite about this venue is I can go to my car and change if my shirt gets ripped.
I've been coming to the Skyway for a few years now and, while the layout is great (and the shows are, too), they've been having some major issues with temperature control lately. I attended a show on 7/14 that was the equivalent of a sauna, every person leaving the venue was completely soaked through in sweat. The show before that (4/20), my friends and I had to leave on more than one occasion to get fresh air.
Skyway: please do something about this before someone gets seriously hurt.
Will say this place is a lot cleaner and fancier then it was a few years ago. Keep it up
The theater style floor is nice for the mellower crowd to still see in the back. The sound is still good for the size of venue.
Overcrowded and low ceilings. This place is a fire disaster waiting to happen.
Skyway Theater has such great atmosphere, it's one of my favorite venues for concerts.
1st time here and really enjoyed it. I love the layout with the sloped floor down to the stage.
My absolute favorite club in mnpls. Old school raver friendly.
Fun room
Play there with wookiefoot
You should definitely check it out
Amazing venue for more intimate or electronic music. The staff were nice and there was plenty of parking around!
Fun place for shows, not as posh as some other clubs in the city but coming here is always fun
Fantastic venue, with excellent staff. The building is need of some repair but can be expected with the ages and amount of use the building receives
Hate the slanted floor, but what can you do, it's an old theater, great venue otherwise.
Flew out here for a convention. Got invited by my buddy for the shows you had going on. Great venue. Hopefully you will make the entrance and outside a little more appealing. Also no ADA for any hearing loss. That is concerning so I had to take out my hearing aids for all shows. Please fix this if you are not sure how, let me know and I can help you out
This was our first visit here, and EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE STAFF that we interacted with....WERE ALL AMAZING PEOPLE!!!! They ALL treated us with kindness and caring and made us feel wonderful....like we were kinda family. SHOUT OUT FROM JEN.....to the STAFF...To the new girl, the new guy, the sweet man with the arm tattoo, the chick who ran the mini beverage station in the concert area.....I CANNOT THANK U ALL ENOUGH.....without you, I would have NEVER gotten to meet Christopher Hall of Stabbing Westward...7/28. NOW U GUYS SHOULD KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!! Ooh... Forgot the topless male bartender n his partner...girl in the Ouija dress. TY ALL FOR EVERYTHING. EVEN DOWN TO THE TRUE REAL EXCITEMENT THAT YOU EACH SHARED WITH ME LATER ON AFTER I TOLD YOU WHAT HAD HAPPENED!! We recommend this place ...to any and everybody!!! This was Trapper's first ever concert..and he met the first band DEPOTEK....while they were going on stage...and I bought him their CD....and later they signed it and chatted with him for awhile!!! (they are an AMAZING local band) we both had experiences that will never be forgotten...MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL!!!! EXCELLENT!!!!
Sound and veiwability was good, ambient temperature and air quality not so much. This place could use a refresh.
Came here for the Enter The Void tour with Jhene Aiko and SZA a few weeks ago, and had an amazing time. The theatre itself is awesome, I love the vibe of the place, and the sound was killer. Jhene just blew me away, i'll definitely be back here for more
Awesome venue. Just wished the bathroom was in a different location because lines gets jammed up and it's close to the main stage which causes traffic jam
Awesome place. Know what you re getting into. The show depends on the crowd and some shows you may not be ready for. WE GET DOWN BABY. Lots of EDM artists here and the skyway is amazing plus the loft is really great and it s smaller so it offers a different experience.
The walk down the stairs after a show is brutal but there is an elevator you can wait for.
First off I have been to quite a few shows and venues over the yrs and have had various experiences.. I have only been to the skyway theater / studio b two or three times.. Each time that I have been there the people and staff have not only been extremely kind, and helpful but the shows have been amazing.. Studio b does have some technical issues but so does every venue from time to time.. I have recommended this venue to numerous people and will continue to go to this venue for future shows.
It's a "fun" place to see shows. Staff are always grumpy. People always tripping. You know just a great environment to see your favorite artists in because I they've pretty much monopolized the EDM scene in the twin citys.
first metal concert was had here. surprised I don't still smell like sweat.
Great multi-tiered concert venue. The unique design of this venue offers fantastic view of the stage regardless of whether you are on the lower level or up on the balcony on the second level due to the manner the venue is sloped.
There are a number of bars both on the concert floor and in the lobbies of the first and second level so long lines are usually not an issue as there is someone able to assist you.
Lines will usually form outside for ticket screening so it's highly recommended to bring a jacket during colder months in the event you have to stand outside for a short bit prior to entering the venue.
Don't charge for water. This is unsafe considering who your patrons are.
Skyway Theatre is a nice little joint that can hold a decent crowd size. What surprised me most was how they managed to keep the place cool on a 101 degree day!
