Use to be my regular place in Shanghai but not anymore. The staffs seem to be lack of motivation and the place decor need an upgrade. The view at the top floor is awesome, a good way for a refreshing start for the day while having breakfast.

Ambience : 3/5

Service : 3/5

Beautiful hotel and very convenient to popular sites in Shanghai. I looked forward to the delicious breakfast every morning which included something for everybody (many cultures represented). The well appointed gym helped keep me in check all week. The rooms are very contemporary with top notch finishes and plenty of storage. I hope to be back in the future!

Aged hotel. Cosy, comfortable and clean. But if you are particular about how the hotel looks, avoid this hotel. Scuffed and stained carpets, aged furnitures. However, rest assured that staff are friendly and hotel is clean and good for an overnight rest.

Old and run down facility. Room had dust covering everything. Mold on the shower tiles. For the Sheraton brand, this is a real disappointment. I'm a Gold member and this will make me question future stays with this brand.

Nice place to stay in the Shanghai Pudong area. Near the line 4 subway, actually just some steps away, which is great for moving around the city quickly and safe. The hotel has 2 towers, as you can guess, the expensive and the normal one, so be careful were you quote your stay at.

I went to the Oriental 29 for dinner, kind of Japanese and Chinese mix. Good views of the river and buildings and the quality of the food was quite O, I enjoyed it quite much. The only problem was the English of the waitress, bellow zero, something unbelievable in Sheraton hotel, but you get used to that fast in Shanghai.

The food is expensive, it does not have ATM, the loudspeakers announce emergency evacuation without reason and there is no apology for it, I was very nervous in the days of my stay I honestly did not like the hotel although the good thing is the location and proximity to other similar hotels

Location is away from tourist areas. Neighborhood was more locals. Lobby is nice. Breakfast was good with Chinese and international options. I stayed 2 times over a week. Both rooms were clean. 1st room was more updated than 2nd. Both rooms were difficult to control the temperature. I felt the rooms were too warm and could not reduce the temp. even with opening the window

Amazing!! Great location which is subway gate is in front of hotel (please use exit 3 and don t concern about your luggage because there are escalators for both up and down sides). So very convenience to getting around the city.

Room is great! Right size. Not too big or small. Also newly renovated. Big bathroom space with good water pressure and amenities. Also with very reasonable price.

Staff is friendly and attentive. They always looking and try to assist as much as they can.

Breakfast (buffet line) which have many choices: Chinese (noodle fresh cooked by chef and you put your own customization with toppings, dim sum and general dishes) or western style. Also some dessert and seasonal fruits. The breakfast room also big!

Check in is fast and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Room is spacious and clean although the furnishing are getting old already.

Location is fantastic. It is situated just next to a subway station and also a shopping mall. Soi getting around and getting food is not a major problem. The only inconvenience faced is a lack of 24 hours convenience shop in the vicinity of the hotel.

I didn't use any services so I can't say much about them, but it seemed like there was a lot of variety and seasonal events in their restaurant. Rooms were quite clean and there was a great view of the river and nanpu bridge. Wifi unfortunately is not free for standard guests, but you get all the typical Chinese TV channels and the other amenities are pretty generous, though they're nothing out of the ordinary. Our bathroom had a bathtub and a shower, and water temperature adjustment was quick. Toilet paper is also pretty soft and multi-ply, and you get two full rolls. It might seem trivial but this quality and quantity of toilet paper is a rarity in most of China. We didn't do much in the hotel other than sleep, but in that respect the experience was as good as I could ask for. Would definitely recommend.

Front desk reception people were very nice, but this old building has some problems. I was around the 20th floor and couldn't squash the cockroach that got away from me. Also, one of the toilets had a terrible back smell. Fortunately it was the living room toilet and I didn't have to smell it while in bed. However the window in the bedroom rattles and you can hear the wind, traffic noise and anything else through these thin, industrial-like sound proofless windows. A cup of coffee was 68RMB($11) on the ground floor cafe, so I found a Starbucks about 10 minutes walk away. Internet was working good, which is not always the case as I have experience at some of the 5 star hotels in Shanghai. There was a regular Sheraton 300 feet away in the next building, but the prices almost double and I could have stayed in any number of 5 star brand new hotels for that price. For what you get, compared to anywhere in the U.S. or Western Europe, this hotel is overpriced and or under well maintained and provisioned.

Nice hotel under going renovations. Although my room was not renovated yet it was still nicer than the room at the neighboring Sheraton. Clean room with a comfortable bed. Subway line 4 is within steps of the back entrance which s make moving around the city fast and cheap. Staff speaks great English, are welcoming and attentive to guest needs. Breakfast buffet is really nice, surprising since my last visit the quality has improved. These pictures are from March 2, 2019. This visit I got one of the renovated rooms and it is very nice. Good value for Shanghai. Great lobby as well, I was able to hold a meeting in the area by the back entrance with no problem. Great staff that seems to be consistent.

I thought I would share 3 incidents I have encountered in this hotel and leave it to the readers to judge the quality of this hotel. I am not a big fan of posting reviews. This is in fact my first review. Now, on to the incidents....

Incident 1.
On 25th Oct, I got back to the hotel and ordered in-room dining. I ordered an indonesian fried rice, a dish I had in this hotel before. It's basically fried rice with wings and a few chicken satay sticks. After eating one of the chicken satay, I thought it tasted different with a weird texture. I didn't give too much thought and continued with my meal. On the 2nd satay stick, I can't get over the feeling of the weird texture and looked at the satay closely. To my horror, the chicken is completely uncooked in the center. We are not talking about beef or salmon sashimi here. We are talking about chicken which when uncooked has a high chance of causing salmonellosis.

Incident 2.
I checked into this hotel again on 30th Oct night with the intend of staying for an extended period of time. I don't have very high expectation but just need a room to work and sleep and hope all the necessary basic amenities works. As I was working, I keep hearing a clicking sound periodically and it starts to get on my nerves. I found that it is the wardrobe light that is constantly going on and off even if the wardrobe door is left closed. This happens to both the wardrobe in the bedroom and in the living room. The lights with go on for 28 seconds, off for 2 seconds and back on for another 28. Each time the lights go on or off, there is a clicking sound. I called for the technician to check on this. What the technician did shocked him. He simply disconnect the lights for both the wardrobe and left. I have to catch him at the door and ask him why he disconnect the lights instead of fixing the sensors. Now I am left with 2 wardrobes without lights. He nonchalantly responded saying I said the light didn't go off so he turn it off. The response from the technician shocked me. He said in in such a matter-of-fact manner. I can't believe the hotel have such staff with this level of service standard. And the worst thing is, even after disconnecting the lights, the clicking sound from the sensors continued. I called for the duty manager and I must say the duty manager was extremely helpful. The duty manager called the technician up and 3 of us were at the corridor talking about this. The technician was literally shouting when he was communicating with the duty manager. The duty manager was being very patient and keep telling the technician to lower his voice. The duty manager also offered a solution but I thought it was too much of a trouble for everyone and told her to leave it till tomorrow. I could endure 1 night of clicking every 28 seconds. I told the duty manager to arrange with the technician to fix this the next day at 8 pm when I am back in the room. I specifically mentioned that it has to be after 8 pm when I am back.. which leads me to incident 3.

Incident 3.
On 31st October, as I left the room for work, I turned on the DND light. I thought the technicians would try to fix it earlier and by putting the DND light no one would enter the room. I have no issues with the room not being cleaned for one day. Besides, I just checked in the night before so it's still fairly clean and I have not properly secured my valuables. Lo and behold, when I am back at around 7+pm, I found that the sensors were replaced. Which means someone entered the room even though I had put up the DND light. Now, I am not sure of what is the typical hotel policy or etiquette on the DND sign but I am under the impression that if the DND light is no, they should not even try to enter the room unless there are emergency or potential issues. I am sure fixing a sensor is not one of them, especially when there was specific request to only fix it after 8pm when I am in the room.

The shower did not work. But the worst: The payment amount of my credit card was charged twice, as allegedly at the first attempt at the checkin no payment should be made (this I only noticed when billing in the online banking)! When I asked at the front desk for clarification, suddenly no one understood English anymore. Disaster this hotel! In the future I will make a big bow to this hotel chain, but especially in Shanghai! I can only advise everyone to refrain here!
