About Sharp literacy, inc.
Sharp Literacy, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping urban children identify as confident and capable learners. The organization achieves this through engaging lessons, interactive projects, and visual arts.
Sharp Literacy was founded in 1996 by Lynda Kohler with the aim of improving literacy rates among children in Milwaukee's central city. Since then, the organization has grown to serve over 8,000 students annually across southeastern Wisconsin.
The Sharp Literacy program is designed to be fun and engaging for students while also providing them with valuable skills that will help them succeed academically and beyond. The program focuses on four key areas: art, language arts, social studies, and science.
Through the art component of the program, students are exposed to a variety of visual arts techniques such as painting, drawing, sculpture-making and more. This helps them develop their creativity while also improving their fine motor skills.
In language arts classes offered by Sharp Literacy Inc., students learn how to read critically and write effectively using various literary genres such as poetry or fiction writing. They also learn about grammar rules which help improve their communication skills both orally and in writing.
Social studies classes teach children about history from different perspectives including cultural diversity which helps broaden their understanding of other cultures around the world. Science classes focus on hands-on experiments that allow kids to explore scientific concepts like physics or chemistry in an interactive way.
Sharp Literacy's approach has been proven effective at improving literacy rates among urban children who may not have access to quality education otherwise. In fact according to data collected by Sharp Literacy itself over 90% of its participants show improvement in reading comprehension after completing its programs!
The success of Sharp Literacy can be attributed largely due its unique approach towards teaching kids how they can become confident learners through creative expression rather than just rote memorization or drilling exercises alone which can often lead towards boredom or disinterest among young learners.
Sharp Literacy's programs are offered in partnership with schools and community organizations throughout southeastern Wisconsin. The organization also offers professional development opportunities for teachers to help them integrate the Sharp Literacy approach into their own classrooms.
In conclusion, Sharp Literacy, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping urban children identify as confident and capable learners through engaging lessons, interactive projects, and visual arts.
