Shands has an abysmal emergency room with terrible physicians who do not care about their patients. To quote a buddy of mine who is an internal medicine resident at UF: "I would rather take my chances at home dying than go to the Shands ED" -- and he works at the hospital. The only reason UFHealth scores so highly, according to U.S. News and World Report, is because of institutional prestige, aka money and research. However, most of the renowned specialties require outpatient appointments.

There is a movement going on with Shands hospital staff reporting false allegations of abuse and neglect on mothers after giving birth, for no reason. It happened to a friend of mines and she gave birth and two days after when her and her baby was written for release, she walked out with her baby and her baby was taken from her for no reason , the reason given was neglect and abuse but they never went in detail on why, they said she was being. Mind you this mother was free of any drug use and mom and baby were clean before release papers !Follow these ladie on Instagram @bringzephaniahhome , please support her , and anyone that is giving birth, especially that is of color, do not go to this hospital!! Get a doula or midwife and consider at home birth unless for a serious medical reason that would require hospital stay, this is not the only woman they have done this to or family

I was there for surgery and released the same day. The staff was wonderful and kind. They met all my needs without my asking. It is a very busy place with Covid at this time, but the staff was professional and caring.

I am currently sitting here in the emergency department and I am APPALLED on this hospitals practices, or lack there of. I have now been here for a couple hours and have observed quite a bit.. vitals and review of health Hx and on going symptoms of patients are conducted without privacy. Blood work and other testing conducted out in the open with, again, no privacy. ABSOLUTELY NO STERILIZATION IS BEING CONDUCTED between patients!!! No sterilization in the waiting room or back where they have a drove of patients in the area where you meet with a intake person via a Zoom meeting.. go over symptoms, health Hx, and administering of medications, blood work, and questioning. Let me be clear.. NO STERILIZATION has been conducted between ANY patients!! No wipe down of equipment or seating!! I m sitting here and I can tell you what at least six patients are here for and their PROTECTED health information. It s as if they have education or experience with PPE, Sterilization, or HIPPA guidelines. I m disgusted and blown away that this facility is even up and running!! STAY CLEAR IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!

I would also add that there has now been TWO agreements between staff and there is a CLEAR lack of respect for coworkers and lack of communication!

Had a wonderful experience with the Shands neurology department after a scary accident in May that resulted in some brain injuries. The staff took great care of me and I have since had a very smooth recovery. Could not have asked for a better, more professional hospital experience.

UF Shands hospital and staff killed my mother. My mother went to Shands walk in clinic on Thursday October 18, 2018. They did some testing and determined she had a heart attack. Then then told her to go to the hospital, they didn t transport her they made her walk. My mother was then admitted into Shands hospital where she was placed under observation and care. I spoke to my mother frequently while she was there. Over the next few days they said she was stable and they planned on doing a catheter in the next day or so. Since they told her this on a Saturday the cardiac unit was closed and she was stable enough that it could wait until Monday. I got a phone call Saturday night that she went back into cardiac arrest and passed about 20 minutes later. If you care about your loved ones please reconsider using Shands hospital. Still to this day they have not responded to any of our emails or letters regarding the issue.

Is anyone here actually trained? If your patient already is having difficulty walking and no one is helping almost falls, you really think yelling at him to sit is going to help? They point to a wheelchair instead of brining it to him and don't put on the brakes! Hhhmmmm I wonder what happened next. This place needs to be shut down or replaced with new staff because people don't know what they are doing.
