Shamrock Towers HAD a good reputation for being an attractive space in a mostly residential area. Benches to sit on, near bus stops on Metcalf, a very community good use of space that has felt safe to walk nearby due to the cameras and security nearby. Unfortunately, there is a (new?) rude and aggro security guard who creepily got too close to me in his dirty red Jeep while I was walking nearby on the ROAD a couple hundred feet away (not up at the building or anything). He sneered and mocked me in a condescending tone. I hope property management understands that making enemies with the homeowners who walk nearby is a mistake for everyone involved. Bad job, mean guy in the Jeep!

Not sure why so many people have had bad experiences walking here. I walk or run from my house to this lake and around it a few times and have done so on many occasions with no issues. I was even there 2 times last week once on a weekday morning and once on a weekend morning with no problems.

I guess if security guard approaches me, I'll just keep him on the opposite side of the lake from me :)

Simply put, it's just not open for public use. It's a private business. Signs are posted at every parking lot entrance stating "Private Property" "No Trespassing" & "Monitored Under 24 Hour Surveillance." At the north end of the small lake there are signs posted, stating "No Trespassing." The north/south sidewalks along Metcalf Ave and the east/west sidewalk along 95th St are Property of Overland Park. It is an amazingly beautiful property and well maintained, manicured, and landscaped. But, they do humbly ask that all foot and vehicle traffic be reserved for employees or appointments only.

Make sure you don't walk anywhere near their building (even on the sidewalk, apparently, which is PUBLIC PROPERTY) or they will send some private security goon who pulls out a gun and threatens you to leave. What kind of shady place is this?! Anyone this paranoid is clearly up to no good.

As others have noted, do not attempt to walk anywhere near this place. I assumed the sidewalk around the pond was open to the public, but oh was I wrong. Armed security guard came right out as I was going past the building and shooed me off. It looks like a public space (it looks like a park), so I don't know what they're afraid of.
