I'm not a fan of putting animals in cages. That being stated, the Seneca Park Zoo appear to be at the forefront of Conservation and Displays that help these animals be comfortable.
The baboons were rescues, the elephants have significantly more room to roam, and far more natural environments.
They're doing a good job.

I was so disappointed in the zoo! It was so small and they barley had any animals. The ones shown had no room, very dirty and small cages for almost all of the animals.. I was so sad to see how the zoo was run. I'm honestly shocked too see they are even open. Close the place down and transfer the animals to a better home.

A lot of construction right now. It should be much better once it's done. The red pandas have a comfortable hangout now so they were a lot more visible. All of the animals were very visible with this cool spring weather.

The zoo is one of the best places in Rochester to let small children explore the animal kingdom in Rochester. We have a season pass and the perks you get there create some of the best value. A nice and moderate walk that can be completed in a couple of hours. The new Giraffe/rhino house and area are really nice and they just opened a play area filled with log obstacles.

Horrible. Saw 4 animals. The elephants look so miserable. They had a dog companion, who came right up to me. I liked him. One elephant was leaning on the wall of the building.
The Lions were out sitting on a rock. The giraffe was alert, and walking aimlessly among the zebras. Saw a set of twin girls walking around unattended. They followed us, and I had the feeling I was in the movie, The Shining. They asked questions about the dog, at the elephant building...and lurked close by. My Daughter left the area, so I was there looking for who their attendants could be. I didnt like being put in that position. In these troubled times, I even have to worry at the zoo...about others welfare. They finally blended into the crowd, and I knew I had seen the last of that zoo. They were the spirit twins of Seneca Park. You can buy my book in 2020. The visions of the elderly.
Only kidding. Or am I?

We visited for the first time in about 10 years and were disappointed. Back then, we enjoyed our trips with the kids so much that we became members to save money on the admission. The zoo had a vibrancy then and it had lots of open exhibits with a decent variety of animals. Today, we walked for a few minutes without seeing anything but the taped-off entrance to the building that used to have the bird exhibit, panther, orangutans, lemurs, giant tortoise etc. We thought we would see them further on. We didn't. The population of animals has been drastically cut. There are large empty ehibit spaces.
The zoo has lost vibrancy and energy. The red pandas are beautiful but the Cold Asia exhibit was underwhelming. We consider the $12 per adult a donation. I can honestly say that if we had today's experience back when we had little kids we would not go back.

My husband and I were excited to visit this place because neither of us had ever been. We went on a weekday around 1pm. The day was cloudy, breezy, and cool. We were disappointed that quite a few of the animals were not available to see. We were unable to see the hyena, snow leopard, otters, lemurs, crane, and quite a few of the reptiles and amphibians. Overall we enjoyed the animals we did see and the staff was very friendly.

This is a fun hour or two activity. We hadn't checked to see what was under construction, so were disappointed that the bird house was closed for renovation. If you are expecting a large zoo, this isn't it. However, they make good use of their limited space and It's clear they give a lot of thought to their exhibits.

Our Remax Realtor Tracey Dedee treated her clients and their families to Seneca Zoo today. Absolutely Perfect day to be outside! It was the first time for us to see the spectacular zoo expansion. Its so unbelievable to see the three Giraffes & Zebras here. They have an incredible large building and outdoor space. Weird to see the original zoo building at entrance gone. The space has been turned into a large family play area. Grateful to Tracey & her Remax crew for such a wonderful day!

So glad that the zoo is now expanding and getting more animals. My kids always have a blast when we go. Walking around seeing the animals, and playing on the playground is our favorite. They now have gluten free food which is convenient for us and our friends. We are members and will be for a long time..

Love the new natural playground!!!! We will be so disappointed when the new building takes its place, I wish the zoo would reconsider! The animals are always out and about, the new giraffe exhibit is delightful! Highlight of every trip is playing in the Safari bus while the lioness sleeps on the hood! A great zoo.

It's a treasure. Beautiful habitats, well cared for and loved animals, clean as a whistle and friendly staff. Watched the giraffes, baboons, elephants (1 getting a pedicure) up close while a zoo staff provided interesting information. Wolves, tigers, otters, eagles, zebra and more were all seen clearly. Several shows about specific animals with plenty of time for questions. Nice gift shops. Prices are amazing especially the Grandparents pass. Can't wait to go again!

The new playground is fantastic. The giraffe enclosure is cool too. Easy to walk around the zoo. We bring snacks and drinks and take our time looking at all the animals. We like going around closing time when it is less busy.

It was nice we got to see the red pandas! My kids were super excited they love animals... we all do!! The only thing is the elephants seemed like they wanted water it was a pretty hot day and I couldn't see any clean water for them! The one kept banging on the door to go in! Then would put it's trunk up like it was spraying water ! Can't wait to go back and check out the new edition and see if the snow leopards come out

I absolutely love our zoo! Small enough that the kids can make it end to end without exhaustion but varied enough to offer the whole family a great experience. My grandsons especially like the lions, elephants, sea lions, penguins...EVERYTHING! Nice spots to sit throughout and lots of shade for hot summer days.

This was my first time to the zoo. I thought (although small) it was very nice. There are plenty of things to keep a kid occupied. Strollers were everywhere, but it's a zoo so its expected.

Parking was easy. Staff were friendly. Will definitely go back.

I love this place! Great for kids and adults, wether it's a family day or a first date. They also have things for adults like the zoo brew! The facility is clean and they sometimes have live music. Always a good time!

The kids had a great time. Unfortunately the lions, tigers and bears were not seen at all. We totally enjoyed the seals, snakes, baboons, wolves, giraffes, zebras, rhino and a myriad of birds. It's very expensive to purchase food, so I suggest you pack. There are plenty of benches to rest and they even have misting stations to cool off on hot days.

Super accessible zoo for people with young kids. It is exciting to see the zoo expanding but when my kids were younger travelling to the zoo on the weekend for a walk was part of the routine. Still love visiting on occasion and cannot wait to see what the zoo is like when the construction is done.

This was the first time we got to use our membership.. LOVE IT!! The zoo had such good accommodations to keep COVID safety in mind, but still got to go have fun and see the animals. They even have signs stating which items (playground, enclosure glass etc) that are "high touch" so you can choose to stay further away. Love the zoo and the way they're keeping us safe!

Seneca Park Zoo: A Haven for Wildlife and Nature Lovers

If you're looking for a place to connect with nature and wildlife, Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, NY is the perfect destination. This zoo is not just any ordinary zoo; it's a haven for animal lovers and conservationists alike. The zoo's mission is to inspire the community to connect with, care for, and conserve wildlife and wild places.

Located in Seneca Park, one of Rochester's oldest parks, the Seneca Park Zoo has been around since 1894. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations and expansions to become what it is today - a world-class facility that houses over 90 species of animals from all over the world.

One of the things that make this zoo unique is its focus on conservation. The staff at Seneca Park Zoo works tirelessly to protect endangered species through breeding programs, research projects, and education initiatives. They also partner with other zoos around the world to exchange animals as part of their conservation efforts.

When you visit Seneca Park Zoo, you'll have an opportunity to see some amazing animals up close. From African elephants to red pandas, there's something here for everyone. You can also take part in various activities such as feeding giraffes or watching sea lions play.

- A Step into Africa: This exhibit features African elephants along with other animals such as zebras and ostriches.
- Rocky Coasts: Here you'll find sea lions basking in the sun on rocky shores.
- Animals of the Savanna: This exhibit showcases giraffes along with other savanna-dwelling creatures like warthogs.
